Settled under the stairs on the bottom floor of the Anaheim Packing House, this train car bar has a great menu of classic cocktails and house drink specials. It's got a cool, vintage feel to it and the bartenders put a lot of care into each order. There are tables/seating inside, and a few tiny benches in front next to the entrance to sip your drinks at. It was actually quite hard for the group of us to decide what we wanted. Everything looked great. We settled on a Penicillin; a Paper Plane; and a Lost Luggage. Horrible rude service. They lost our credit card after we paid. When we asked the bartender if she had it, she rudely yelled that she doesn't have it. We asked her to check around and she refused insisted she didn't have it. After going back and looking we noticed it on the floor behind the bar and pointed it out to her. She picked it up and tossed it at us and told us to leave. Her behavior was bizarre and shocking. Not sure how this person is in a hospitality field. At the bustling food court area of the Anaheim Packing House, you'll find an unlikely spot for some fantastic cocktails: BXCR (short for Box Car). Like the name implies, the decor is reminiscent of a classic, old-school train car. With that being said, just be aware that this isn't a huge bar at all, and if you come with a large group at the spur of the moment, you may run into some issues as space can be limited. This is definitely a very hip place, but classic at the same time (it looks like the kind of place you would have seen Frank Sinatra hanging out). I really have to give it up to the Bartenders/Mixologists. The place was absolutely PACKED and people were lined up for drinks. They busted out some fabulous cocktails FAST without compromising on the quality. I was truly impressed! My only "complaint," and I really don't want to call it that, is that it's pretty loud. Just keep in mind, the place isn't very large, and you're also dealing with all of the noise from folks walking around the Food Court area. If you want a quant place where you can have long conversations with someone, this may not be the spot for you. If you want to meet a couple of friends, hang out and have some amazing drinks and a good time, BXCR is the place for you. Great vibe, knowledgeable staff who are true artists when it comes to crafting cocktails, and comfortable setting. It's set up like you're inside a train station with a dark and romantic vibe. We ended up getting two rounds of drinks. They don't really serve any snacks however, you're in a food market where you can get multiple dishes and or cuisine as you desire. Only downfall is that there's very limited seating, as well as an early shut down, hey after all, we still are in Anaheim! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to squeeze this last stop before going back home but I always am one minute past last call, so then I just mosey on over to the ice cream shop and get a scoop before going home! On the lower level of the APH you'll find a vintage 1920s box car, which is decked out in vintage decor and has, shockingly, a bar. This is a wine and cocktail bar. Now, I know this is a wine society, and they specialize in giving a superior wine experience, but I wasn't in the mood for wine the night I came here so I just browsed the cocktail menu. I decided to order the classic champagne cocktail, since it was both on their menu and on the list of drinks I've been meaning to try. The bartender asked me if I wanted bourbon or brandy, and I was unprepared to answer because I had no idea it was made with either and I don't like dark liquor. I went with brandy because I haven't really tried it, and he asked me, "Are you sure?" "I think I'll be fine," I said as I chuckled, but I had no idea the drink would be absolutely gross. It wasn't the guy's fault, as I'm sure it would have been gross to me either way, but next time I'll just order one without brandy or bourbon. At least it was very strong. I'm really just giving this place a good review because I love the way it looks and the drink was strong for being averagely priced in this food house. They were both so amazing and made great cocktails. We got the pina colada, cosmopolitan, and a glass of Chardonnay. We spent around 70 for everything. This place is pricey but at that time, the flavor of the cocktails was amazing. They let you bring in food from other places which is cool . The bartenders also had great oldie music, local to Anaheim, playing. It was great music really in theme because the packing house is Anaheim history. I went back another time this past Sunday and there was two women. The cocktails did not taste the same. The cosmopolitan did not have a good taste then the time before! I did drink a pina colada and it tasted like the one I had the previous time. I would recommend that all bartenders know how to make the drinks in the menu the same way because inconsistency is not great especially when someone is looking forward to that same Cocktail. They made a great Moscow mule! However, I did not enjoy the customer service of the two women. One customer came in and ordered a drink. He was given a weird stare and the bartender talked to him very condescending that they didn't make it. Which is not cool given that a bartender can make or break the vibe! We decided to go with the Hurricane because it was a hot day and the hurricane seemed to be very tropical. It included passion fruit and a mix of several other rums. I loved them, actually drank the first one really quick and ordered a second which I enjoyed a bit slower. The bar was a bit on the dark side but I really enjoyed the ambiance. I have been to BXCR a few times before Covid and always found it a great little hideaway bar. Last night was my first visit for a few years and my experience was just as good as the previous ones. I love the vibe of an old boxcar (fits in well with the packing house setting). There are both indoor and "outdoor" seats - the outdoor ones being still indoors but outside the main boxcar structure. The upholstered seating around the walls of the interior is comfortable and cozy. The decor has lot of small touches that make it memorable, including small steamer trunks used as cocktail tables. The drinks were great and staff friendly. Give this place a try. read more
