the interior of a coffee shop
    Yum Y.

I visited Buzz Cafe on a weekday afternoon. The cafe is located on a side street, off the arts district. The interior was indeed full of art, from the ones hanging on the walls to the colorful mix and match tables and chairs. When I went, it was neither busy nor desolate but it took a while to get seated and get service. The staff seemed nice. The menu listed breakfast and lunch offerings along with a variety of standard drinks. The descriptions looked good. I ended up ordering the daily special: Chance's Bowl - hash browns, Swiss [cheese], garlic grilled mushrooms, two eggs, sour cream. I also ordered a spiced hot chocolate (thinking it might be somewhat like Mexican hot chocolate with warming spices or maybe a house blend of spices). What happened in reality was lackluster (even that is a generous description). The daily special of hash browns contained a deli slice of cheese that did not taste like Swiss cheese. There was no salt or seasoning on the hash browns; and no salt on the table. There were no grilled mushrooms or any hint of garlic. Two eggs were present but unremarkable and unseasoned. A dollop of sour cream sat there in a paper cup, hoping to be the most exciting thing on the plate. And a few thin slices of fruit were supposed to make it look better or make me feel better. Maybe both. The "spiced" hot chocolate ($4) tasted like a powder mix with a sprinkle of cinnamon and some canned whipped cream. Was the daily special worth the unadvertised $14 price? Definitely no. I could've made this much better myself at home. Maybe I shouldn't have taken a chance on Chance and ordered from the regular menu or checked Yelp for tips. The cafe might be enjoyable if you're not picky about what food you'll actually get. The interior is artsy and fun. I may not purposely go back but maybe there's hope that it will be better on a different day.

Thus morning; I had a taste for some pancakes. Thankfully; I made it just in time for breakfast. My server Alex was delightful. She's very personable. After reviewing the menu; I was also pondering the breakfast wrap. Therefore; she was patient and understanding. Buzz cafe is known to great food and want to order everything off the menu. Each time I'm greeted with warm smiles. The staffs are great. The owner loves her customers so much that she always off samples of dishes while waiting ( carry out only lol). The ambience is cool, live, full of energy. This is a great place for the family dates, mom dates , business lunches and just for chilling. The outdoor area is great. The place is located in the heart of oak park. The food is wonderful!!! The coffee is dynamite!! I recommend this place

    Some afternoon tea!

The coffee drinks and pastries are great! So is the barista who works weekday mornings. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired, though.

It was around 11am on a random Sunday and about half full, which made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Right away, the service stood out. Our waitress was super attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. For drinks, I ordered a regular coffee and my significant other got the "Vitamin C" smoothie. The coffee comes in a surprisingly large mug and is refillable, which is a nice bonus. Because of that, I skipped the café de olla, but honestly I'd recommend trying it if you're not planning on refills. The smoothie was great--smooth, refreshing, and only mildly sweet. For food, we ordered the green chilaquiles, chicken enchiladas with red sauce, and the churro pancakes. The food did take about 30-45 minutes to come out, but everything arrived fresh. The chilaquiles were served with black beans, cilantro lime rice, and two eggs, topped with onions, sour cream, and cheese. The beans had a slight grilled flavor but were a bit mild overall. The rice, on the other hand, was light, fluffy, and perfectly seasoned with cilantro--definitely a highlight. The chilaquiles themselves were flavorful with just a slight kick from the salsa; I just wish they had a bit more onion for extra texture. The chicken enchiladas were excellent. Honestly the standout savory dish. Everything about them was well-balanced and cooked perfectly. Now the real star, the churro pancakes. These were amazing. You get a stack of four pancakes topped with a pecan sauce and served with two churros on the side. The pancakes are definitely on the sweeter side, but in the best way possible. The churros themselves were fantastic, honestly better than Xurro Factory in my opinion. Overall, this place really impressed me. The vibe is immaculate, blending Hispanic culture with a modern twist, and the food and service back it up. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and would be a great spot to take family, friends, and even a date.
