First off, how can I not start this off without commenting on the name of this food truck? I like big butts and I cannot lie. It's probably the owner's last name but it's a great one. The menu mostly consists of pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, and loaded fries. We couldn't decide between three dishes, two of them had their chipotle BBQ sauce so they gave us a sample. The sauce was spicy and didn't have great flavor to it so we went with the item we were interested in that didn't have the sauce. We went with a burger which came with mixed greens, tomatoes, cream cheese, and a blueberry compote. I can't say I've ever had blueberries on a burger! It was definitely interesting and a nice combination of flavors. The burger was overcooked though. I like my burgers cooked medium. read more

Food Truck Friday, as always, is my favorite Friday! We had a few options, but the aromas flowing from this truck caught my attention, of course. Off the bat, they were pretty organized. One person taking orders, and a few others handling the kitchen. Customer service can always sour great food, or make sub par food great, in my opinion. I opted for the fries and tacos, I shared of course. I chose pork and chicken so I could taste both. Portion sizes are good, you shouldn't be hungry when you're done. Fries: loaded with topping, thankfully they aren't stingy with that. I will admit I would have liked a little more salt on my chicken. Tacos: yum! I preferred the pork over the chicken taco. Again, good amount of meat. When I was leaving it started raining. I didn't even have to ask, the gentleman moved my food into a closed styrofoam container to preserve my food. Generous meat and toppings, with a bit of a kick. Messy, but not greasy, and their wise choice of a better-than-average challah bun kept the whole thing viable. I was able to try the Buttz food truck recently and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my meal. The owner recommended the blueberry burger to me, but it was boiling hot outside and I wasn't in the mood for heavy cream cheese. Instead, I tried the Carolina butt. It was great! Extremely tender pork meat topped with a delicious cilantro lime slaw. This is a filling, filling sammie- I was only able to put away half for lunch. Hubby and I went to this truck at My Food Truck Park HTX and ERMAGERD it was DIVINE!! We shared a Club Butt - pork, chicken, bacon, cheese, tomato and BBQ sauce. It comes with a bag of lays. I honestly could eat that sandwich ALL DAY. It was so tasty, the guy serving was lovely, full of helpful advice and even sliced our sandwich in half when I told him we were sharing. Buttz bbq came to our food truck Friday lunch and was asked before hand to give 10% of sales to the school where the event was. After the event was over when he was asked to give the money to the school, he refused saying he didn't make enough to do that. Yes, he did have customers that bought from his truck. Two things: 1. Don't say you will do something and then not do it especially to a school. 2. Also, don't yell at high school students trying to do things to help improve their school with a fundraiser. I would probably give 3 and a half stars but not quite four. Let me explain. I ordered the nachos and my first impression was that I was a bit disappointed by the size and weight. I kind of expected more for $9. I'm ok with a smaller size if there are more premium ingredients to compensate and there just weren't. The pulled pork was really good but I wanted more. It was only a small chunk here and there, maybe a piece every 5th bite. What I didn't expect that was kind of creative was the use of potato chips rather than nacho style tortilla chips. It's creative BUT now I just consumed the calories of a baseball stadium nacho and I'm still hungry. What I did like was the use of spicy pico rather than direct jalapenos. It gave the feel of spicy nachos with better flavor I thought. There is also a type of mayo that is also good. One last frustrating thing is most of the cheese was baked onto the bottom of the paper container. I tried to get to it but ended up flicking sauce onto my dress shirt...that I bought yesterday. One guy does it all and I am impressed that he can pull it off. For a fourth star or higher I would ask for just some more pork on it. Maybe a way to get more of the cheese onto the chips or a plastic container that would allow for better cheese scrapage. I didn't really want more quantity of potato chips but more pork would have solved a lot of problems. read more

Finally a reasonably priced food truck, the normal modus with food trucks is to pull up to our galleria area office and jack up the prices at least 50%; I've seen $16 burgers, $20+ pizzas, and $12 vegetarian tacos, today I had a reasonably authentic Carolina style pulled pork sandwich (which was huge) for a very agreeable $8. Slaw was fresh and fantastic, pork was tasty but lightly smoked (I go a little hard and heavy with the smoke on my cue at home), mustard based sauce was good, my only minor gripe was my bun (very tasty) was clearly refrigerated and was kind of cool sure would be nice to get a toasted bun -- bread was of excellent quality it's just odd to have bread on the cool side. All in all excellent experience, they're friendly fairly quick (5-10 minutes) and the food was good to near great. Recommended. read more

A great food truck that happened to be parked outside of Liberty Station. The owner does everything, and I was really impressed with how he handled the crowed. Taking time for orders, but informing people when he needed to catch up on food prep. Most food trucks just seem to be overwhelmed in that aspect. Anyway, food comes out quick. All 5 people I was with ordered at basically the same time, with a few people between and the food could not have come out quicker. Pulled pork is great, and there are several different sandwiches and tacos to choose. The Carolina mustard BBQ sauce is perfect, and the slaw added a great texture to the Carolina Butt. The challah buns can't be better, without even mentioning the special for the night. Which was one damn fine prime rib. The prime rib did run about $20, but freaking awesome. Juicy, medium rare, and could be cut like butter with the plastic knives available at Liberty. Other than that, pretty much the rest of the line up is about $8-10. While I do enjoy food trucks when at a bar with no kitchen or at an event, I do typically prefer a brick and mortar spot. Though, the pulled pork and prime rib here are as good as I have had in the city. I can't say if that is better than Gatilin's (they are typically the best for pork in the city) but pretty close. I tried Buttz when they were at Truck Yard. Pretty funny name for a food truck, huh? They don't have a huge menu but out of the items that attracted us, the blueberry burger was the only one that wasn't spicy so that's what we went with. It comes with arugula, cream cheese, and blueberry compote which is quite the mix. A+ for creativity. The flavor was alright. It's one of those things that you're happy you've tried once but likely won't have again. The burger itself has good flavor. It also came with some fries which were alright. So Buttz was parked at a newly opened brewery in our area, so I thought I'd try them out. Man oh man glad I did. Got the Sriracha Butt it was Delicious!!!!soft Hawaiian like buns with spicey, smoky,subtly-sweet pork butt what else can you ask for??? I know!!!!! a Coca Cola in one of those old school bottles ...Yeahy!!!. It gets better...My credit card was copied while we were at the brewery and fraudulent charges were posted :( sad times for me..BUT I called the brewery and Buttz and Garrett Buttz owner called me back immediately and was apologetic for my experience, explained how his Credit card system works are reassured me neither him or his assistant used the card inappropriately he even offered to help me in any way to get it resolved.
