Half of French Dip sandwich & Caesar
David S.

We've had brunch there several times, close to fiancée's house. Last night, dinner to go...her French dip sandwich loaded with meat and came with a nice salad. I had the Downtown Club sandwich (trio of sourdough bread with lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, smoked turkey, ham, jack cheese) and great curly fries. Ready on time. Both quite pleased!

This place is cute! Your typical diner vibes--which I love. The service is good, everyone is very nice and quick to help out. The food is just okay. My breakfast burrito was good--nothing to write home about. The hashbrowns were pretty bad, very undercooked. My partner's churro waffle combo was good. Only get that if you have a huge sweet tooth! My friend was pretty underwhelmed with the salad, but said it was okay. Overall, definitely a serviceable place to go to if you're in the area.

I had a better dining experience at this place this time around compared to my previous visit. For my main dish, I ordered the country fried steak topped with country gravy, served with eggs (I chose over easy), a choice of hash browns or O'Brien potatoes, and toast. The country fried steak was decent--not overly salty--and the gravy was tasty as well. That said, next time I'd probably ask for the gravy to be on the side instead of poured over the steak. My white toast was also much better this time; on my last visit, the rye toast was so dry it was almost cracker-like. Since I enjoyed the hash browns previously, I decided to try the O'Brien potatoes this time. While they were cooked perfectly, they seemed to have cooked the potatoes with some sort of tomato paste so they had this flavor that I didn't really care for. The texture was spot on, but the taste just wasn't for me--it's just my own personal preference. We also ordered a few sweet items to share at the table: a three-stack of buttermilk pancakes and French toast. The pancakes were excellent--fluffy and springy. The French toast, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. Although it looked great presentation-wise, it tasted overly eggy and lacked sweetness and spice (like cinnamon). I had to douse it in syrup to get some sweetness in each bite, and even then, it still felt off. I'd skip that next time. Service started out great--our first server was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, his shift ended during our meal, and the server who took over wasn't nearly as attentive, which left the service feeling inconsistent overall. We were tempted to try the bread pudding but were too full. I've also heard great things about their upside-down apple walnut pie, so I'm definitely planning to come back for dessert sometime soon. All in all, the food here is pretty good, especially if you're really hungry and in the mood for a big hearty breakfast. Portions are definitely generous. However, I'd say this place leans more toward quantity than quality. While I enjoyed the big portions, I've had better breakfast experiences elsewhere.

Banana Foster French Toast

1st time trying out this place and I ordered for to go! The order was ready in about 20 minutes so it was pretty fast. There's a lot of parking in the lot as well so parking was nice and easy The inside of the restaurant was pretty large and kind of reminds me of black bear diner a bit in terms of ambiance and decor. I got the biscuit breakfast and the portion was HUGE and so heavy. You can literally eat like 2-4 meals out of this. Pretty much it's biscuits covered with gravy, cheese, eggs, and chicken tenders. It tasted good but man it is pretty heavy for a first meal of the day lol. This dish kind of felt like something you'd eat if you had the munchies and was pretty solid. For the onion rings, they were pretty smackin and the ranch was pretty fire As a ranch person, their ranch is pretty legit My wife got the banana foster french toast. It came with 6 half slices of french toast topped with caramelized bananas and sitting in a pool of syrup. Pretty good but also really sweet. I kind of wish that it wasn't sitting in syrup as I feel that it made each piece of french toast really sweet. I would've just preferred all the syrup on the side tbh to control how much syrup goes on it. Otherwise, the french toast itself was pretty fluffy and had a great texture. Overall pretty decent food for a great price!

Feta & Veggie Omelette

My husband had never been here before, & I hadn't been here in years, so we figured let's see what it's like these days! It was definitely busy but the staff was attentive & quick -- clearly a popular spot! They have upgraded the decor since the last time I was there, & thought it looked nice! We were very pleased with how many vegetarian options they had, too. My husband ordered a Biscuit Benedict, & was able to substitute the Canadian bacon for an Impossible patty! He said it was super delicious! I ordered the feta & veggie omelette, which had a ton of flavor! They also had blood orange juice which was absolutely to die for.

Walking in & welcomed immediately! They were very kind and sat us down quickly. Our waitress was very kind and great memory. She took our orders without writing it down and everything came out right. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We went to the one in concord but they do have one in Oakland and Vallejo as well but I will say their service was so good I wouldn't mind making the drive out and enjoy the area and good weather to come.

From the Autumn Menu ... Meat Loaf Melt Sandwich
Elaine P.

Despite some "rough edges," ButtercuP on Clayton Road remains our reliable destination. We live close by and have few other options for All American food in the neighborhood. On our most recent visit, we were happy to see the new Autumn menu. I had gone with the idea of comfort food in the form of either the meat loaf or a patty melt. A new item, a meat loaf melt, sounded like the best of both worlds. Large portion, a bit on the greasy side. Glad I opted for the horseradish sauce on the side. Not to my palate. Would have totally ruined the sandwich. Sweet potato fries were quite good. Two of the pies for the fall season were tempting: pecan and pumpkin. Next time. Past experience shows I shouldn't expect much from the wine list. Often the server doesn't even know what wine is available and it is rare to even find a printed copy on the table. This time I ordered a Merlot, not the best option. In recent visits we have found the bread underdone. Inedible! Also salads are not up to quality of the past so we usually stick to sandwiches, the low cal salmon plate

Solid breakfast! Attentive staff & homey atmosphere. Would definitely come again! The coffee cake was much thicker than I expected, more like an actual cake.

Hello peeps!! Let…read moresee who is in the chopping block todayyyy!!! Come on down 1800 cafe. So let's start off with the outside of this place. Very clean very welcoming. For being a place right in front of moving traffic very clean. Now when you want in you are greeted by a server and asked how many in your party and then asks you to sit where ever you want. Which is pretty cool because if you wanted to sit by the window you can. Which is what we did lol. Now for the food when I say wow I mean wow!!! There of the order of the family Son- sprite bacon cheese burger well done Wife- coke and bacon cheese burger Me- bottomless mimosas waffles with one egg and two bacons second I had a stake well done Sorry but I forgot to take pictures all I can say is if you know how my reviews are you know how truthful I am. I'm not going to lie from the service and the food everything was top notch. Every little bit of it was amazing and the music they have goes with the meal you are eating. The steak was juicy not at all dry burgers were the same very juicy. My waffle was a huge most waffle. Now for the moment of truth is this place Dendinger approved??? Yessss queeen this place is a must go to place. Being the family or if you just want to eat by yourself it's okay come on down and enjoy the drinks, the music and the food we will definitely be back soon. Thank you for such an amazing experience!!! Omg omg peeps we got to meet the owner and he is amazing. He is ontop of his stuff and check in with everyone. OKAAAYY 1800, with the updated furniture since my first visit! It definitely gives it a "more than…read morea diner" feel. The outside is still as inconspicuous as ever, though. If you blink, you might miss it. Service is still 10/10! This time around, I ordered a hot matcha latte, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much (let's be real, some places can mess up matcha). But surprise, surprise -- it actually tasted like real matcha! It was delicious! For my meal, I tried the cowboy scramble, which I swear was everything but the kitchen sink tossed in a pan. It was hearty, satisfying, and totally hit the spot. The only hiccup? The melted butter they used on the toast had a weird aftertaste. I can't quite explain it -- like if butter went to a weird party and came back a little off. But hey, it didn't ruin the whole meal, just a little side note. All in all, I'm into the new look, and I'll definitely be back for that legit matcha latte and hefty scramble!

I originally went out looking for a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich and Googled "good breakfast…read morenear me." This spot came up, and although my wife and I have driven past it many times, we've never stopped in. Today, I decided to finally give it a try. After looking through the Google photos, I changed my mind and ordered a breakfast plate instead of a sandwich. Parking was a little challenging. I arrived around 11:00 a.m. and had to circle the block a few times before finding a spot directly in front of the diner. When I walked in, I wasn't sure whether I should seat myself or wait to be seated. All of the waitresses appeared busy, so I stood near the entrance. Once she was available, Marianna greeted me. Initially, I wasn't a fan of being asked whether I was picking up food rather than whether I was dining in or taking out, but I quickly realized they may be accustomed to regular customers who already know the process. Since it was my first visit, I explained that I wasn't sure if I should seat myself. Personally, I think a sign near the entrance would be helpful for first-time guests. Since I was dining alone, I chose a seat at the counter and ordered the Sugar Plum Special with cheese grits and sourdough toast. While waiting for my food, I noticed something that concerned me. The staff did not appear to be wearing gloves, and I observed food being handled after touching various surfaces, including condiments, plates, glasses, and trash areas. While I understand that food service relies heavily on proper handwashing practices, I personally felt uncomfortable watching bread being handled directly by hand. I requested that my toast be handled with a utensil instead, and my request was accommodated without issue. When my food arrived, my eggs were cooked exactly as requested--scrambled hard--and the bacon was perfectly crispy. The bacon was a little saltier than I personally prefer, but that's more about my taste than the preparation. Overall, both items were flavorful. Now, let's talk about the grits. I come from a strong Southern background, and we take our grits seriously. The presentation was fantastic. The butter melting on top and the cheese looked absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, the texture wasn't there on the first serving. The grits were noticeably gritty and undercooked. After a couple of bites, I sent them back and requested they be cooked a bit longer. One of the waitresses explained that customers typically need to request the grits "well done." That was surprising to me because I've always believed grits should naturally be cooked until smooth and creamy. In my opinion, that's how they're meant to be served. Thankfully, the second batch was much better. While they still could have been stirred a bit more, the texture improved significantly and was much closer to what I expected. I also want to recognize Marianna for her excellent service. She was accommodating, attentive, and handled my concerns professionally throughout the meal. Overall, I would return. The restaurant has a warm, family-oriented atmosphere and an old-school diner feel that is becoming harder to find these days. It reminded me of the kind of place you'd visit after church on a Sunday morning or somewhere you'd go with your grandparents for a comforting home-cooked meal. While there were a few areas that could be improved, the welcoming environment and friendly service left a positive impression on me.
