Was in the area yesterday and decided to try out a few items. Had we not been to a different café just before where we had a milk-based drink, I definitely would have ordered a latte here. But still ended up ordering a drink since I saw they had Hong Kong Lemon Tea. It was really refreshing! Also ordered a cookie, which had the tea and floral flavour to it. The rice krispie was definitely a bit salty, you could taste the seaweed, and sweet from the marshmallow. First visit to Butter & Blue and it's a bit of a mixed bag, but promising. The cheddar and chive bun was really good, nice balance of savoury with a slight sweetness. Coffee, though, I'm not sold yet. I had a cortado and the espresso-to-milk ratio felt way off, so hard to judge overall. It also seemed like the barista might've just been having an off day. So happy to have found this adorable little coffee shop so close to work! I ordered the matcha mochi, which was perfect--not overly sweet with a wonderfully soft, chewy texture. I also tried the Iced Cookie Butter Latte, a winter special. It was good, though not quite amazing. The coffee itself could be stronger and the cookie butter flavor could also be more evident. I did appreciate the touch of cinnamon, which added a nice warmth. That said, the drink prices can add up quickly. The latte was $7, and there were additional charges to have it iced and served in a takeout cup. And so, I'd expect better flavor, given the price point. Service was friendly, though not particularly memorable. I found Butter & Blue through Instagram before they opened their doors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor of this place is so incredibly cute. I've been here a few times and really enjoy their coffee and pastries! The place itself is also really cute, but on the smaller side. The biggest table is the one pictures below by the window where you could probably sit a group of 4-6. I love the Asian inspired pastries they offer, and their drinks are quite good as well. The mochi texture was chewy and slightly sweet, I couldn't exactly taste any matcha flavour but it was still enjoyable. The bun was slightly sweet from the brioche bun and caramelized onions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a lot of cute seating both inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was friendly and efficient. I would try the nori rice Krispy square and miso chocolate cookie next time. This has been a fantastic cafe in Baldwin Village since last year! I've been many times (my photos are from a few visits) because it's near the office, but also such a lovely atmosphere here: Cosy, warm, bright and joyful. Free wifi here and with lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Washrooms are downstairs (and therefore not fully accessible). It's a lovely spot though, and a popular spot for local students and workers. They do have particular hours and are not open everyday so follow them on Instagram for updates! Food and drinks are a perfect marriage of western and eastern palettes. You'll find matcha, hojicha and various types of milk teas here, plus Asian-flavoured baked goods too. I love their standard fare and rotating items. There's always something new and exciting to try. If you're a fan of the texture of mochi -- be sure to try their Matcha Mochi Cake! A really wholesome and cute cafe located on Baldwin Street with amazing aesthetics, good food and drinks, and good energy! My wonderful friend and I dropped by the cafe today for breakfast and I got their pizza bun and iced americano to eat in. I like how they warm up their savoury pastries. The pizza bun's bread was really good and I liked how fluffy it was even though it was a thick bun. I think I would've enjoyed it if there were more toppings as it did feel more bread than a pizza bun. Their iced americano's espresso was slightly on the acidic side which I should've asked for a milk to cut the acidity but I still enjoyed it. I also got the nori rice krispies which was A-OK. This is a new cozy and quaint cafe, which opened on 2023-06-16. It is long and narrow with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There is a wide variety of food and the staff was courteous. Even the owner was working there. They serve buns with different toppings ($5.00 and $6.50), cakes/biscuits/scones ($4.00 and $4.50). They serve hot drinks (coffees, lattes, teas, hot chocolate) for $4.00 to $6.50. If you want a takeout cup, it costs $0.35; I guess they are promoting saving the environment by promoting the use of reusable cups. There are some East Asian inspired drinks such as HK Milk Tea, Horlick, and Ovaltine. They even give out free White Rabbit candy at the order counter. There is a selection of books you can use while dining indoors. There are also some merchandise for sale. There is free WiFi. The cafe is wheelchair accessible. I stumbled across this brand new cafe on Baldwin Street and was so excited to see the gorgeous space they've created and try their cafe goodies which has some Hong Kong and East Asian influence. Their menu has all the cafe classics with some HK inspired drinks like HK milk tea and Horlick with espresso. They have a larger than expected baked treats menu with some interesting options like a Nori rice krispies square and spam & egg bun. I find prices on the high end but where the quality stands up to the price, I think it's worth the treat. I tried the cream and lemon scone with jam which was very fresh and crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. I personally would've liked more lemon flavour. I recently heard of Butter & Blue while talking to another IGer and was excited when I saw pictures of their cute patio. I stopped by on Thursday afternoon around lunch time. There was a steady flow of customers where I even saw paramedics come in! The café has variety of beverages available ranging from espresso based drinks to more Asian style drinks like the hojicha latte, iced Hong Kong milk tea or the Ovaltine latte. They have a variety of delicious savoury and sweet treated such as the spam and egg milk bun, nori rice krispie square as well as a matcha mocha cake. There is seating inside and outside a well on their patio. They accept credit, debit or cash. Upon entering, the spam and egg milk bun caught my eye. I chose to order a flat white as I didn't properly look at their drink menu before ordering (definitely have to go back to try the hojicha latte as well as the HK milk tea!!). My order was made at a reasonable time and the spam and egg bun was heated as well as came with a spicy mayo which complemented the bun well. The flat white was great and there was even latte art. I sat out on the patio while enjoying the weather where I noticed that there was a steady flow of customers. Mostly everyone sat outside on the patio enjoying the weather. Inside, there are some books which you can borrow to read during your stay there as well. Overall, friendly staff, great vibes (love the patio!) and delicious coffee and pastries. I found this little coffee shop hidden in plain sight and I am so glad I stopped by! Located on Baldwin St, the cafe is small and cozy and has a nice back patio which I unfortunately could not use due to the season being winter. I needed a small stop in my day from doing errands and was able to get a cozy spot by the window to do some work on my laptop! The service was awesome, it felt very home-y and such a chill vibe. I ordered the Ovaltine latte with oat milk and the chocolate banana bread, omg the Ovaltine latte absolutely made my day! That is definitely something I will be ordering again, same with the chocolate banana bread. It was so soft and sweet, definitely went well with the latte too! 3.5 rounded up. This cafe has some interesting HK inspired items which is pretty cool. They're known (on tiktok) for the hk style milk tea so we got that and the iced lemon tea. Personally liked the milk tea a lot better as the lemon tea, typically in HK cafes would give you a spoon to poke at the lemon and get the most flavor. Milk tea had great taste, nice and strong taste and I can see why it's so popular. Environment inside is pretty comfortable too, nicely decorated. read more

Finally got the chance to visit Butter and Blue this past Saturday at around 3pm after months of wanting to check them out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was packed when I came and I just managed to snag a table outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside atmosphere is super warm and inviting, but definitely very snug.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up getting a small iced Hong Kong milk tea ($5.50) and their miso white chocolate chip cookie ($4.50). The milk tea was strong but still a tad sweet - perfect for the hot weather. My only complaint is that sitting outside, it definitely got watered down as the ice melted. The cookie was a bit sweet for my liking but had a great texture and was a fun combination I've never seen before. In heavily caffeinated Baldwin Village area Butter and Blue brings something a little different. Bright, airy and green. A place you would bring your friends to chat and catch up or read a book. They have the usual espresso drinks and plenty of tea. Food options are oriented towards savoury scone types. Right now hours are a bit limited and likely to change as they opened recently. Quite spacious, fits about 23 inside with plenty of outdoor space. I saw one electrical power outlet and WiFi tested at 8mbps which doesn't lend itself to be the best place to work on your laptop. The service was friendly and helpful answering questions about their different drinks and pastries! They have a unique selection of pastries that I haven't seen elsewhere in the neighborhood. Definitely recommend their earl grey tea blonde with lemon glaze! What a flavour combination! I got the matcha latte and the flavour was excellent but the temperature was lukewarm. Hoping it was just a one off! They have a collection of home wares which are handmade and cat motifs sprinkled throughout (so cute!). a cute and quaint cafe on baldwin that checks all the boxes for a perfect coffee shop. the color, aesthetic, and mix of asian flavoured menu is my jam. the houjicha latte was fragrant and creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. not sure if they do this everyday but I was there near the time of closing and they were offering their leftover baked goods for free! I walked by this "house" many years ago and fell in love with the exterior. I'm so glad they renovated and turned it into a cafe. It's spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. I love the extensive drink and snack options. Great spot to work from and not starve basically lol. Love all the cat decor and the overall yellow and blue theme. I tried the iced Hong Kong milk tea which is just like desi chai with ice. Very delicious. The ice ratio and quality of ice was 10/10. It does not melt in 5 seconds. The milk bun with egg and hash brown was a bit lacking flavour i.e. salt and pepper. They add spicy mayo which helps but the quantity is sad!! So ask for more mayo if you want it to be flavourful and less dry. I will be back to enjoy the patio! read more
