On July 21, 2025, I spoke with the owner, Eddie, who agreed to refund me $250. During our conversation, he acknowledged a breakdown in communication between the original technician and the one who later attempted to complete the work. He admitted that key information wasn't properly passed along. Eddie also confirmed that the confrontation with the tow truck driver did occur, and while he acknowledged it was an unfortunate situation, he said there was blame to go around. That said, my experience with Butler's Automotive, located at 1401 Reynolds Street in Augusta, Georgia, was truly awful. We initially brought our Toyota Tundra in to have the rear wheel bearings replaced. After the job was supposedly completed, I noticed a persistent noise while driving. I returned and asked them to recheck the work. They told me the bearings were fine and instead claimed the driveshaft needed to be replaced. They quoted me $2,200 to install a new driveshaft. Alternatively, if I provided my part, they would charge $400 for installation. I was also told that if I chose not to proceed with the installation, I would still owe $200 for labor already performed. I ordered a new driveshaft and had it shipped directly to their shop. After the driveshaft arrived, they told me it wouldn't work and insisted I now owed $400--double the amount originally stated if I chose not to go forward with the job. When I pushed back and reminded them of the $200 agreement, they justified the higher charge by citing time spent moving the truck in and out of the bay. Though I strongly disagreed, I paid the $400 just to get my vehicle back. Once I had the truck, I installed the same driveshaft myself without issue. The part simply required a universal joint strap--something any competent technician should have recognized and handled easily. Their claim that the part didn't fit was unfounded. To make matters worse, when the tow truck driver arrived to retrieve my vehicle, Eddie and several employees were disrespectful and used profanity toward him. Their behavior was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. In total, I lost $400--$200 in unnecessary shop fees and $200 for towing--due to poor communication, misdiagnoses, and unprofessional conduct. While I appreciate the partial refund, the overall experience was unacceptable. I would not recommend Butler's Automotive to anyone. If I could give them a rating below one star, I would. read more

first of all an employee at wrightsboro rd Augusta ga was using fowl language towards me while I was outside my son was inside and heard employee Meeka call me a MF they put a fuel pressure regulator on my 06 mustang got and now my brakes don't work there is a lot more I need to tell anyone considering using them do not use them they overcharged me for installing spark plugs 600 dollars can you believe that! Now my car is ready but has no brakes this is far from over my engine is also making noise now im 63 years old wait this is part of elder abuse they have cause me financial problems I'm gonna get an attorney read more

I brought my truck in for a few things to be repaired, a oil leak,check engine light, and gas cap light. Butler automotive had my truck for more than a week and a half told me that everything was repaired, once I receive my truck it was still leaking oil for some odd reason the fuel line came a loose and I lost about a half a tank of gas in my driveway and truck started to squeak. I took my truck back to them 4 days straight after the first "repair" for them to say that they fixed every single repair. This morning my check engine light came back on and my gas cap light came back on after I just picked it up yesterday. If you have money to blow such as $3,800 and get nothing done then by all means take it to Butler's but I do not recommend anyone going there. The people are nice but that's just about it the service sucks. read more

We are not from Augusta, and our car cut off unexpectedly. We chose Butler Automotive as they were one of AAA's recommended repair facilities nearby. They quickly diagnosed the problem and were able to render same day repairs. The waiting area was very clean and comfortable, all the staff were personable, helpful, and went out of their way to assist us. Came in to get my Tensioner pulley and belt tensioner replaced and the service was great very friendly and ready to answer questions, their time was great got it don quickly and the price was less than a lot of these other mechanics in Augusta trying to charge $400 I will definitely go back if I have any other issues. read more

I had used the service of Butler automotive for several years in downtown Augusta it good but recently the quality of service has been poor. when I took my car to them to fix a problem. I was breaking down about every two to three days they claim they fixed the problem. I paid nearly 1200 dollars. The manager finally admitted he didn't know what was wrong with my car after returning it four times.plus one of their employees put antifreeze in the windshield container .I also had a water pump installed. I was wondering why my window shield had oily film when I picked up the car from their shop. They didn't even fixed that problem they caused. My total bill was 1800. I will no longer use their service. read more

Once again I needed help with the repair of my auto and again Butler did not disappoint. The repairs were completed in a very timely manner and the staff (Hank and Thomas) treated me very well. I have to say something about a situation that occurred while I was there. Another customer was there with a car under an extended warranty. I know facts because the customers were not handling the situation quietly nor in any kind of respectful manner. I was apparent to me upon my arrival that they were not happy. While the Butler staff tried many times to explain how the extended warranty worked, it seemed like these customers wanted a no cost repair. I applaud the way the Butler staff handled this situation. They could not make the customer happy so they were sent on their way. This customer was using very foul language and were making threatening remarks trying to intimidate the staff. Thanks to Butler for even making this situation bearable for the other customers in the office. read more

This is a great auto shop. Me and my girlfriend had a car that had multiple issues and "The Butler" took care of us with excellent service. This is a great place with honest people who treat their customers fairly. I recommend this shop to every one I know. Five star, no doubt. read more

I took my car for repair and told them to do diagnose ($124) find out what the problem is with the car. I got a call back from Kenny saying the alternator and the spark plugs need to be replaced. The total cost was $1550 including other minor items. I told him to fix the car since I drive 50 miles per day to and from work. I got a call from them saying the car is fixed but need to replace the engine!!! I complained they dropped the price to $1375. I traded the car for $500 the next day!! I don't think they are honest people stay away!!! read more

Very disappointed with service and the expensive lesson. Waisted 3 days and paid $1,000 for work that didn't need to be performed. I reported a thumping sound from the left front of the car. Butler technician stated he didn't hear a noise, but indicated the left side was hotter than the right side, so they replaced a part. When I picked up the car the noise was still there after I pulled away from the shop. I was asked to give them another chance to fix the problem. I took the technician out around the block, and he stated, yeah, I hear the sound. Well, they failed the second time as well; they swapped the part to opposite side. The final result? Thumping noise persists. The manager stated he took the car out and could not hear a "thumping noise," but in the same breath stated, "I hear a little tire noise, but that's all. Horrible! I think they realized they made a mistake. Insult to injury, my sister riding in the car for the first time: We drove 100 yards when she asked: "What's that noise, is it coming from the car?" Get a second opinion before you sign off on work for this Butler location. I will never again trust "Butler" to do it. read more

I took my granddaughters 2010 jeep patriot to their shop on 6/30/17 for an alignment, I just had the vehicle inspected at another local shop who said the car was fine and only needed alignment, this shop doesn't do them. They inspected the front end and found nothing wrong. The car during driving only pulled to the side, nothing else. I got a call from Butlers saying they did the alignment but it was going to need a right control arm and ball joint to the tune of another 470.00 + the 110 we paid for the alignment and tire rotation. I told them I would wait on that repair and drove off their lot. The car swayed all over the road when I left making the car unsafe for her to drive. They knew not to align anything if this work was needed but did it anyway to try and lock us in to their overpriced repair. So now it's back at another shop where the repair will be done on Monday for a total of 340.00 which incledes the replacement of the control arm / ball joint and another alignment. This is shady business practice and it's not apreciated. read more

Last year we moved to within walking distance, so I really wanted this to work. The staff were very friendly. I had them go over each of our three vehicles, as I explained that I had hopes that they would own future maintenance. They did a thorough maintenance of each vehicle, costing between $800 and $1000 each, but I thought "Hey, all of the vehicles are between 77K and 140K miles each, so why not?" One of their suggested maintenance was on my Expedition at 140K miles. One of their maintenance items was service of the differential, with which I've never had any problems. A few months later, I noticed oil building up on the garage floor under the differential, so I took it back in, expecting warranty work. "Jeff" said that they'd look into it and call me back. He called back and said that the seal needed to be replaced, along with all of the items that they previously did on my previous visit. I reminded him that they had already done that work, and he looked it up and verified it. Why did he try to sell me services that they had just performed? In any case, he said he was going to have to charge me ~$270 to replace the seal on the differential. I reminded him that they had just done that work, and this was "redo" work. He stated that they had only changed the oil and had not touched the seal (for which they had charged me $165?). He also said that my engine oil was so low that it wasn't reaching the bottom of the dip stick, so they were going to change that as well. I reminded him that they had last serviced my engine oil, to which he suggested that I might be burning oil (the vehicle is in excellent condition and has never burned oil). Since they already had the vehicle, I told him to proceed, noting that I'd never go back to them. After picking up the vehicle, I noticed that the engine sounded different under load at different RPM's. I popped the hood and pulled the engine oil dipstick to discover that it was about a half inch over full, which could easily blow the engine seals. I drained off some of the oil to discover the most black and putrid oil I've ever seen, even though they claim to have replaced the engine oil a few days ago. It occurred to me that they likely haven't changed the oil for the only two service times that I brought the vehicle in. I then checked my wife's car oil and discovered that it was also about a half inch high over full on the dip stick. Next off to my son's truck and discovered that it also was a half inch high over the dip stick. I haven't drained them yet to see if the oil was actually replaced, but there's no arguing that they lied about changing my engine oil a few days ago. Overloading an engine with oil is very hard on it and will eventually blow the seals. Their friendly attitude at the counter hides some extremely nefarious practices. Stay away from these folks. read more

don't know where to start I got my transmission replace I spent $4,000 and line replacement I didn't mind paying long as the problem was fix Mr Bob kept telling me my car was gone be ready several different time remind you nothing was wrong with my car but I needed a new transmission which it took 10days for them to install they never kept me updated on my car I had to call serval time then they told me I need a condenser where the claim they put it in free now my car is shaking which it was not doing before I took it to butler automotive and when I drive it smell like gas and the engine light is blanking on and off now they tell me it's a engine problem but remind u it wasn't no engine problem only a transmission problem you'll think after you spend$ $4,000 they will take care of you car mr Eddie than told me it doesn't matter if the engine start doing that if we had it and I record everything for my reasons I will be taking these guys to small claim court because I also recorded my car to show the problem before it went in the shop I miss my own daughter funeral because of these guys had to make it from Georgia to Miami but couldn't make it my thing is fix the problem not add to it these guys are a ripped off and I think it's because they seen how anxious I was to get my car fix i don't like taking my car to a backyard mechanic so I took it to a legit shop which I regret taking it to butler automotive I don't normally write reviews but I'm mainly hurt to trust people to take care of my car then when I pick it up there's more problem they want to pick my car up again for a free diagnosed which my car already been diagnosed that's how I know it was a transmission problem and I was told I had a good engine I don't want a free diagnosed I want my car fixed to many problems that was not occurring before are now happening I have proof if it didn't have a engine problem when it went in why is there a engine problem now strong gas smell and my car shaking my car never did any of these things until I got it out the shop please don't take your car here they don't care to be honest if your customers tell you they have videos of what was going on with their car before they picked it up meaning no flashing engine light no shaking no strong gas smell or no noise if u know a person car wasn't doing any of that and you test drive it and see it's shaking you see the engine light blanking on and off and smell gas u should fix it because you knew that problem wasn't there before you guys got my car I will be hiring a lawyer and taking them to small claims court same way I pay $4,000 to get my car fix I will pay thousands of dollars for a good lawyer my video and recorded calls is all I need you guys are about to get hit with the Biggest lawsuit read more

My daughter took her car in for spark plugs. Butler changed plugs and sent her on her way, she barely made it to the next light before it stranded her. I drove in from Atlanta to help her and we went back to Butler to find out what happened and that the car wasn't even moving now. I was told not to worry he would get the car back in to the shop and look at it and that there would be a $200 diagnostic charge he also informed me that he switched a couple coil wires around and that must be it. We came back to Atlanta and I called him several days later and all I got was "we are busy", "I'm short handed", "I haven't had time to look at yet". I got my husband to call after leaving an uanswered message..again. hadn't looked at it!!!! By now we are 2 weeks into this. Finally he called my husband and said no compression. Needs timing chain and water pump $1000 we both sensed he either had no clue or didn't want to mess with it ( we both have worked in the car industry) I then had it towed to another repair shop and after two days car was repaired... final diagnosis? Needed spark plugs and wires!!! Although after the initial $100+ charge for spark plugs.. they never charged us for anything else which I appreciate. They charged me triple the price the first repair and so the second time I went there they also were going to charge me triple the $ as other quotes I got.
