Had a great experience here and will likely be coming back! I visited for the first time at the beginning of the week in search for a great sandwich and I definitely found one. The woman who helped me order was very sweet and could tell I was a little confused but she explained what all they had and the options for my sandwich. It was a very nice sized sandwich for the grove I think it was max $14 and I was able to cut half of a half and shake that w a family member. The meat on the sandwich was great along w the bread I believe it is baked there and it is so delicious. I got it w all the toppings and pickles added it was an extra 35c but that didn't bother me. It's a small cute shop that clearly people frequent in the area cause at least 8 people where there spread out. Considering that the service was super fast here's table and chairs you can sit at inside and there was also a sitting area across there little parking lot. Vibes greats food even better!

The food at this establishment is delicious!! I was very taken back to my teenage days. Butch's is very old school and the type of place I will come back to again and again! First time here, how is the experience? Excellent! My all-time favorite sandwich is the Italian and this place does a really good job at it, everything tasted fresh but the one key thing that every sandwich place needs to have is good quality bread. If you have that your customers will be guaranteed to come back. Everything was proportioned perfectly. They do have a few sizes to choose from 6, 8, and 12. It definitely has a nostalgic feel. It looks like the place hasn't changed much which is great. I went with the eight and it was more than enough, if I was back in the area, I would come back and maybe try a different sandwich however, the one that I got was really good.

The sandwiches are tasty. They use a good amount of meat and plenty of veggies. It's always nice to have a choice of bread at a deli, too. A full sandwich is a pretty decent size. The potato salad and macaroni salad are ok. Nothing to write home about. The employees were friendly enough. There's not really much to say for the ambiance. It's still pretty old school inside, but it's clean. They have a covered outside eating area, which is always a plus on a nice day. As with most places these days, it was pretty pricey. We got three full sandwiches, a large potato salad, small macaroni salad, three small drinks and one slice of cheesecake for $87.

Butch's is great and a convenient spot around downtown to enjoy a meal. I had the Ultimate Italian, which is tasty with the red pepper spread. Make sure to specifically ask for mayonnaise and/or mustard on that sandwich because they're not included.

Bread is so soft, it's perfect. Sandwich is filling and tasty. Macaroni Salad was a nice addition with a bag of chips and an ice cold root beer. Butchs NEVER disappoints, been coming here since middle school 1982!! Service is always polite and professional. There's no tv's or loud music just a nice quiet place for a healthy meal

Just wanted to warn people about their 1/2 sandwich & a side of pasta special. Their side is extremely tiny. I was expecting more. Next time I'll just buy the sandwich or buy the small of their pasta salad. Food is good though. I like their sandwiches. Glad a good sandwich spot is super close to my job. I'm not a big sandwich eater, but it's been hot out and I do love an Italian sub on a hot day. I was pleasantly surprised by this small mom and pop shop at the bottom of Mt. Rubidoux, we hike here a lot and I seemingly have missed this place somehow. The deli meat is fresh, the rolls are soft and fresh, and the veggies are delicious. They have a list of meats to choose from, so you get to build your own sandwich, and the oil they use on the bread is tasty. When I go to subway or Jersey Mike's I douse my sandwiches in vinegar, and it didn't need anything extra. The gentleman that helped us, was pretty patient, since we haven't been here before it took a little longer for me to decide, and I had a few questions that he answered while managing to take my order at the same time. The girl that was helping him was quick to make our order, and we got everything quickly and it was correct. Very disappointed with this place I've been here a couple times and never had a good experience, but my wife loves this place so I thought I'd give it one more try. I waited over 10 minutes for 2 6" sandwiches and a cup of soup. The sandwiches were bland and flavorless and the soup was still cold i would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Big, fresh, satisfying old school sandwiches. Not cheap but very much worth the money. The bread is amazing (I mean REALLY good...that sort of dry on the outside but soft in the inside) and yeah, you'll eat too much and feel overly full like me more than likely. We stopped by here last time after hiking Mt. Rubidoux. read more

Without fail, Butch's Grinders makes a perfectly made sandwich just the way you like it. The freshest ingredients are used and the hoagie rolls, the rye and the squaw bread are the best. They are generous on the meat, whatever sandwich you get. There doesn't seem to be a time that I've been there and there wasn't a line. Although they're always busy. The service is upbeat and fast. The dining room gets packed but there's outdoor seating which is perfect for a typical Southern California day. Don't forget to try the chili! read more

I am not a Butch's regular so I'll go easy. Capicola is great meat especially for sandwich's I got one from Butch's how do you ruin such a sandwich? First, they said they use oil mine was dry. The bread didn't care for it, the small tomato slices tried to add moisture but failed. I'll disregard the raw onion and pickles it their style, overall the sandwich for 8.50 lack seasoning I was disappointed. One more thing the mountain of lettuce really buried any flavor profile as seen the provided pic. One more try will be given. read more

Just started coming here about 2 months ago and now come once a week. The turkey and ham on squaw is amazing. I usually order the tuna sub or tuna on squaw and it is by far the best tuna sandwich I have had from a sandwich shop. I have tried a few other sandwiches as well, the corned beef is great, turkey is good, all the meats I have tried have ben awesome. The sides are all delicious as well, I like the macaroni salad the best. The staff here is great they have delicious food and amazing service. Check them out! read more

They make amazing hot and cold sandwiches. Reminds me of an old school deli shop. Love it! Everything is delicious from their soup, to their salads, to their sandwiches... I've honestly never been disappointed with anything I've eaten there. They sell beer there for any beer drinkers out there. They also sell different sodas and seltzer's in a glass bottle. They have great sandwiches. My favorite is the turkey and avocado on their most delicious squaw bread. I order a whole sandwich but it gives me 2 meal's. One half is plenty big for a meal so I get to enjoy it twice. Their macaroni salad is also really good if you want something besides chips. Overall nice little sandwich shop. read more

We decided to try this place because of all the positive reviews, and we're sorry we did. The place seemed dirty, the person taking the order wasn't rude, but wasn't welcoming or friendly either, and most importantly, the grinders just sucked. The rolls were stale tasting and the overall sandwich was bland (how do Italian meats taste bland?) Small family-owned places should rock over the big chains, but in this case you may as well go to the big chains. At least the food is fresher and the places are clean. read more

The food is decent. They don't have a toaster. Or at least that's what the cashier said. What kind of sandwich place doesn't have a toaster? I ordered a toasted sourdough blt and got a untoasted blt on white bread. They charge for pickles & water cups. I figured those would be complimentary... not here. Today I ordered the tuna on squaw bread w/ avocado, which was the perfect choice for me! The sandwich is so large you can make to meals out of it. My mother ordered a classic pastrami sandwich which she said was good, but could've came w/ more meat. Additionally 2 sandwiches, 2 bags of chips, 2 cookies, & 1 lemonade all for $26.78. A meal for 2 for under $30 not extremely pricey in my book. read more

I've been on a sandwich kick lately and for a while we would hit up Marisa's in the canyon crest town center every week. We recently moved and are close to Butch's. The hubby brought me a sandwich home and I loved it except there's not enough meat for my liking, so now I just order extra meat. Their bread is nice and soft as well. Best sandwich shop in town! The ingredients are always fresh and employees always friendly. They also have the best iced tea and the spicy pickles are a great compliment to the tasty sandwiches. The only snag is they are always super busy so I definitely recommend calling in the order ahead of time. read more

It comes with grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato, all on a toasted sourdough bread covered with pesto and cheese. For the side I typically get the Italian pasta salad, which is always delicious. One thing about this sandwhich is that the chicken will never cover the entire bread and it will never be distributed evenly. So you will always have one half that has less chicken and ends up being part veggie pesto sandwhich, which is still worth it. The other favorite is a turkey club sandwhich on a croissant. It's basic, but also very tasty. They also carry a variety of pastries and serve Klatch coffee (brewed coffee) if you need a sweet treat afterward.

SERVICE Avoid at All Costs - Horrible Service I recently dined at Butch's Grinders and was absolutely appalled by the behavior of the staff member ( older caucasian, female). From the moment we walked in, we were met with indifference and even a hint of hostility. Our server was incredibly rude and dismissive, rolling their eyes when we asked questions about the menu and making snide remarks about our order. They seemed more interested in socializing with other staff members than attending. The food, while decent, was completely overshadowed by the terrible service. We felt completely unwelcome and disrespected throughout our entire order process. I will never be returning to and I strongly advise others to steer clear. There are plenty of other restaurants than at 4602 Pine St., that value their customers and provide a pleasant dining experience. Visited Friday for lunch 1/3/2025, with my family and disabled family member with special needs. read more

When I first spotted this place, I thought it was a lesbian sandwich shop but then I got in there and there were not that many lesbians they're only a couple but I ordered a sandwich anyway and not a lesbian sandwich. I ordered like a manly sandwich like a roast beef and like whatever you know some macho shit. Sandwiches aren't bad they're decent and they have squaw bread, which is like a racial epithet for a Native American woman, but there's no Native Americans in there. Well after the we checked out all the reviews we gave Butch's a try. I must say we're now fans. This place is awesome they had great fresh sandwiches. You can sit inside or outside under some huge shaddy trees and enjoy your meal. I went with the turkey avocado on a grinder roll as well as my wife. Next trip I will try the hot pastrami, that looked so good to. Cant wait. read more

This place always has good customer service. They have a really nice variety to choose from. The patio is huge and it's right by the santa ana river bike trail so it's pretty cool to go for a ride and grab something to eat here. It's been here a long time and it's easy to see why. read more
