I came in for lunch 12/3/24 as I heard about it many times from other colleagues. I arrive walk in and not greeted which is fine because it probably was a lunch hour drop in. It was my turn next and the lady walks by and says she'll be with me shortly she just had to ring up a couple gentlemen. It ends up being about 6-7 people. I wait patiently as another 2 customers come in. A lady from the back (nose septum) comes out and asked the 2 ladies what would they like, as if she didn't see myself and another lady standing in line. I won't make it about race . However the lady and I that were there said nothing and waited patiently so now I've been here about 15 mins and I'm still waiting. As I look up to the sky the other lady that came from the back said who's next . As I walk to the front the First Lady who greeted me which I believe is the cashier/ owner (possibly) and says she dosent know what your here for you have to tell her. I reply, "well since I've been in here you didn't say anything to me but that you'll be with me in a moment after you help the young men. She then looked at me in a crazy way. Ma'am please treat all your guest that come in to eat the same. The lady behind me and I had more than enough patience and that customer service need to be better. This was a not so good experience. The decor ....... Meh however I ordered pastrami sandwiches they were decent. Would I ever go back .......NO will I tell my friends and colleagues to go here......... NO . This was not a good experience I spent 15 mins of my 30 min lunch waiting for an order that I ordered over the phone an hour 45 mins prior. No thank you read more

This place has been my go to spot for grinders for over 20 years. Great employees and killer food. Normally I get the 6 inch capicola and salami and a macaroni salad yummmmm. Their grinder bread is soft and just a little salty, perfect! When I'm feeling indulgent their German chocolate cheesecake or their carrot vake are both phenomenal! Only reason they get a 4 and not a 5 is because I tried their tuna once and found it VERY salty.... like inedible salty. Other than that I love this place. read more

The location used to be a gas station. Went to the car show today so we stopped by purchase because it's in the same parking lot and of course we've been going there for years and we let their sandwiches today was the worst sandwich I ever got there is so much mayonnaise on it it made the bread is so soggy end it has overpowered everything on the sandwich trade scraping it off but it is just saturated in the bun it is so nasty tasting I have never gotten anything so bad from bitches usually a rave about their food not today !!!! I'll round my 4 visits in 1 review. (within a month yes food is great!! Although IMO could use more meat way less lettuce). I've only gotten the pastrami so good haven't wanted to try anything else yet. Customer service is great! Very friendly. Food is always so good (pastrami usually takes longer) so be prepared when people who ordered after you u get their food first. (Not sure why). The thing I dislike the most is they charge extra for everything a tiny cup of pepperchinis, jalepenos, they even charge more for cherry coke. I think that's a bit ridiculous. I love that they have a yelp check in deal because it's a bit pricey. Usually around $30+ 2 sandwiches, side of pasta 2 drinks jalepenos an chips. Also they have a coupon card unfortunately I never knew about either until my 4th visit last Thursday. Butch's Grinders is literally, hands down, my favorite sandwich spot in all of Riverside! I remember the first time I came here as a young child. My dad worked for the city and got the scoop on all the great lunch spots in town and took my brother and I here once. I was too young to appreciate it, but I would rediscover Butch's years later when a friend took me in high school. It's hard to pin point what exactly it is that I love about Butch's so much, but I want to say it has to be the fresh ingredients they use- soft bread, plenty of meat, lots of fresh veggies and a delicious tangy mayo. My go to here is ham on squaw bread, everything on it! To be honest, I am not usually a fan of ham sandwiches and I never keep squaw bread at home, but when I am at Butch's I just can not resist! If I'm getting a sub, it's a hot pastrami with cheese, pickles and mustard. It comes on a huge sub roll and always hits the spot when I feel like pigging out on pastrami goodness. I even had them cater my college graduation and had a heavenly amount of leftovers for dayssssssss! Our old standby. My entire family loves this place. You can't really go wrong with whatever you order. I'm partial to the corned beef and it's hard for me to order something different but when I do I'm not disappointed. It gets busy around lunchtime but that shouldn't be a deterrent. Just be patient as it is worth the wait. I used to go to Delia's also in riverside but place sucks. I orders a turkey sandwich all the basics inside and added peppercinis & sprouts with a side of pasta salad. Man they load up the grinder with some much meat. And that pasta salad... they put artichoke hearts and you can tell it's homemade. So good. My BF got capicola & salami with all the basics and potato salad. He barely said a word to me as he stuffed his face with his sandwich. Oh and we got a huge ass pickle split in 4ths. Also ordered 2 squaw sandwiches ~$8 each, the bread definitely makes the sandwich. Altho, Panera Bread still has some of the best breads in my opinion. I didn't notice what the difference from these subs to other subs was at first until I went out and ventured places like Subway again and took notice. These freaking subs are huge! Their produce is also very fresh. You can taste the freshness. I decided on the "Turkey Avocado" on squaw bread based on other Yelp recommendations. WOW that sub was delicioso!!! This is coming from a guy who always eats BLT's on wheat! I ordered the #1 which included chips and a drink for just under $8. I highly recommend this sandwich to others. Butch's has been around for ages. Their squaw bread makes them distinctive along with the amount of quality ingredients they use in their sandwiches and subs. I generally get a squaw sandwich with turkey and my family will generally get the same type of sandwich but with Avocado. The taste has remained consistent through the years for which I am very thankful because I enjoy bringing out of town friends and family here due to their consistent taste. There is nothing more embarrassing than bringing a friend in to a place after you've bragged about it only to have the place make you look bad by having bad food or changing their recipe. They have fountain sodas and a cooler where you can pick up bottled drinks and water. Unfortunately they have beer but it's only for consumption to go. There is a rack containing all manner of potato chips-baked and regular. The desserts I don't know about because I am typically so full from the sandwich I can't squeeze in any more calories. There are a lot of folks who swear by their sub sandwiches and I appreciate their allegiance so I hope they understand mine which is to the Turkey sando on squaw with no tomato, no pickle and easy onion. I have been going to Butche's grinders for at least 30 years and for my taste the turkey avocado on squaw is the best sandwich in riverside, but lately the service and product has gone down hill. I called in my order as I usually do and Spencer was not only condescending but also rude. I was told it would be ready in 30 minutes but it was closer to an hour. I asked for a turkey avocado on squaw with everything except bacon and it was turkey and avocado only, no lettuce or tomato. I hope the drop in service isn't because of the owners passing. RIP. Hopefully it's Temporary because I need my turkey sandwich fix! read more

So in my search for the best sandwiches in Riverside I have tried many different places before I came upon Butch's Grinders off of Pine in Rivedside. When you first look at it from the outside you think hmmm should I risk it. It's in what looks to be an old gas station nestled In A dilapidated strip center. Even though it looks rough from the outside I decide to give it a try today. And I'm glad I did! When I first walked in it was around 1:00pm and it was PACKED! Wow. So I got in line and ordered a 6" grinder with turkey and swiss on white. Ended up getting the combo with drinks and chips. Then they hand you a number and tell you to pay when its ready. Then you stand and can watch them making your sandwich fresh to order. Took about 10 minutes to get the sandwich and I was ready to go. Now about the sandwich. The bread was just the way I like it! It was so fresh and soft! The turkey was also fresh cut and it was drizzled with Italian dressing on top of lettuce and tomato. it was gone in 60 seconds! So good! The service was great! This is a great little sub shop, just on the outskirts of downtown Riverside. $6.50 will get you a 6-inch sandwich, chips, and a fountain drink. The fountain was behind the counter the last time I was there, so I don't think they do refills. It's tiny inside, crammed with little tables, drink fridges, and barely any standing space (the place is almost always packed with regulars). I walked in not knowing what to order, and the little old lady behind the counter (the entire staff is made up of adorable little old ladies) said that cold pastrami on squaw was the most popular. So I went for that. Ah, yes, they do make a good sandwich. Note: if you want squaw or sourdough bread, it won't be a 6-in sandwich. It'll be a half sandwich, which is like a store-size piece of bread cut in half, on top of each other. They also have this terrific deal - it was written up on the chalkboard, but I've forgotten it now. Two large sandwiches for $10, or something like that, after a certain time in the evening. Ordered the hot pastrami sandwich with everything and added sprouts for an extra 35 cents which is nothing when you see how much they put on. This was so comforting on the rainy day I came in. Normally there's a steady stream of folks but I came in pretty early in the morning and it was drizzling quite a bit outside. The gentleman behind the counter was nice, answered all the questions we had, showed us some of the meats we were curious about and offered some suggestions. A lady in a wheelchair came in later and he came from behind the counter to help her inside and outside by opening the door for her. That was really nice of him and says a lot of about the staff here. I've come here a couple times and I don't remember what I ordered previously this the pastrami was exactly how I love my sandwiches. A good amount of meat and veggies and also the bread was fresh and soft. It was soft where it's suppose to be soft and crunches with flavor where it's suppose to.
