Made our annual pilgrimage to Butch's for Sunday sunset on the pier in Grand Haven. I had the bean burrito with mild peppers and 3 alarm sauce. My wife had the veggie burrito and 2 alarm. Ate mine and finished hers. Felt the 3 Alarm burn for another 15 minutes and savored it. For all those haters on Butch's because it's not their idea of a Mexican restaurant or burrito - take a flying leap! Husband had beef burrito and he did not like it. (He pondered how the beef got to the particular color that it was.) Since they sell their bottle salsa, I'm assuming that's well liked around the area - and it did seem good. Service was good. Location was good. People!!! These negative reviews are ridiculous. Butch's is not your typical "Mexican" restaurant, nor does it try to be. Butch's is just Butch's. Opened and unchanged since the late ''80: (Ok, they dropped the 4 alarm source about 30 years ago and I've almost forgiven them). They have the same thin tortillas that must be almost hard to find these days, but that's part of what makes Butch's a one of a kind . I have only ever gotten the veggie burrito with the 3 alarm sauce, and I love it. The mix of beans and veggies is yummy, topped off by Butch's tasty and unique 3 alarm sauce on that tender tortilla. This place is located down the main road headed to Grand Haven State Park. The food is okay and ranges from tacos to burritos, hot dogs, and other treats. Prices are fairly inexpensive. There is also a selection of frozen non-alcoholic drinks to try which are nice on a warm sunny day. The place itself is tiny. The tables to eat at are located outside, or you can take a short walk back to the boardwalk and eat on one of the many benches there. The menu is posted right when you walk in, and they also have a selection of salsas to choose from you can buy to take home. For myself,I ordered a beef supreme burrito. I requested the spiciest salsa they had and extra sour cream. The only bizarre element, my burrito had was that inside of it pepperoncinis and olives were added which I wasn't a huge fan of. Overall, food came out quickly and owners were extremely friendly. Food, was okay, I won't be running back anytime soon, but if in the area and forget to pack a lunch, I will definitely make a return trip! read more

Fast, cheap eats, yes. Mexican food - not sure I would call it that. Had a chicken and cheese burrito - which was shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and salsa (choose mild, medium, or hot). Less a burrito and more a thin roll-up/wrap inside a slightly gritty, flour tortilla. Salsa was sweet. Did I enjoy it? Sure. A companion had the chips and salsa which were yellow round chips (think stadium nachos) with a side of the salsa. Not bad - just not authentic Mexican. Food comes out very fast. They also sell hot dogs. I think the phrase "beach burritos" perfectly sums up the food - so they did a great job naming the place. $30 for 3 burritos, 1 taco, a bottle of water, 1 chip and salsa and 1 chip and cheese. I really, really love Butch's! I grew up in Grand Haven and this place has been around since I was little. This is not Mexican food, so those who are expecting authentic Mexican will be disappointed. This place is in a class by itself...I've never had anything like it. It is one of the few food things that I miss about West Michigan because there is absolutely no way that I can replicate it at home. There is just something about the tortillas and the sauce (you get a choice of 1, 2, or 3 on a hotness scale), the lettuce and the cheese, the guacamole. How do they do it? My favorite is the vegetarian burrito minus sour cream with number two sauce and a side of guacamole and chips. The food aside, everyone who works there is so friendly. They have a good little assembly line going, so you never have to wait too long for your food - and this also makes the line going out the door not as scary. It will go fast - don't worry. And the prices aren't bad either! When I was younger, my only complaint was that this place was only open in the summers. But now that they've opened a second location a stone's throw over in Spring Lake that is open year-round and tastes just as terrific, I've got nothing. AGAIN - and this is important - do not expect traditional Mexican fare. This is just weirdo townie beach food made just as much (if not more) for the locals than for the tourists visiting the State Park down the street. They serve hot dogs in tortillas for crying out loud. So open your mind and treat yourself to Butch's. Lord knows it's the first thing I do every time I go back up to Michigan! read more

The prices were good and the location is awesome and a great place to go when you're by the beach. Everyone should try this place. The only reason I'm not giving a full five stars is because my burrito got very soggy very quickly. I had a beef burrito here. Not only it was as skinny as taquitos, the beef was actually ground beef, and only beans and cheese inside. This place does not even have mexican rice. I am used to authentic mexican food, so this place was a big surprise for me. My friends from this area say that this place is so good.
