Had a late night meal craving some good ole chicken tenders after HYROX NYC. Great tender! Had excellent flavor and still some crunch after delivery! Also love to see local business doing hand cut fries and homemade food. Always will pay a little more for it. The sauces left something to be desired I think the honey mustard and bbq sauces were a miss on my end and the cornbread to be dry, but there's still a lot to like here. This place has a lot of hype. I was excited to try it, but it wasn't great. Being from Texas, I was a little skeptical for good BBQ in NYC, and after going here I stand by it. I had the blue plate special with Smoked Beef Brisket, Applewood Bacon Baked Beans, and Cornbread. The meat was not very good, and the baked beans were too sweet. The cornbread was excellent though! Grilled chicken was delicious especially with their BBQ sauce, the creamy Mac and cheese was equally delicious and flavorful. On the Ribs I'd go with the fall off the Bone instead of the dry rubbed. Just my opinion. Corn bread was good and the mashed potatoes could use some butter and seasonings.. Besides that we enjoyed our meals. Service was great. Jade took care of us. We ordered two orders of burnt ends one spinach with plenty of garlic and well-done french fries with no salt. Everything was perfect. Bourbon Bread pudding was its contender and it won! Last time we had the key lime pie which was the perfect ending on a summer night so def the bourbon pudding hits great in winter. The staff is really friendly and made lots of recommendations. But the food ... lackluster I know we're not in Texas but I've been to other sit down bbq places in NY and Butcher bar falls short. It hurts me to say but the garlic broccoli was probably the best thing I ate during my visit. And the burnt ends deserve a shout out too , they were pretty good. The burnt ends were pretty good, the fat well rendered, the brisket was too lean for my taste, and the pork belly was a disappointment. It was cut so thin that it was hard and dry. I was disappointed that the cornbread has gotten way smaller or maybe they just gave less than they used to since it was one of the things we enjoyed. The Brussel sprouts and queso street corn were both really delicious. The cheese fries were super disappointing as the fries were not fresh cut and desperately needed some color. I've only had take out here before. The brisket wasn't hot and a little better when warmed up. Some bits were better than others, overall, I think Pig Beach may have an edge over it. However, the burnt ends were delicious and especially when warmed up, my favorite things by far to eat here. The Mac and cheese is excellent - the cheese is more of a white cheddar perhaps, not your typical one. The Cole slaw was just okay and the cornbread was pretty bad, it tasted healthy in the bad way. Previously having written off NYC BBQ, I'm impressed that Butcher Bar has me changing my tune. Highly recommended! The notorious meat candy (burnt ends) rocks; I was beyond thrilled with the Gimme the Beef Platter ($29.99). It consisted of a 1/4 lb of meat candy, 1/4 lb of brisket, a side of your choice, pickles, and cornbread. The burnt ends exceeded expectations, and the tender brisket impressed as well. Regarding sides, there are a boatload of options. I went with the Brussels sprouts with applewood bacon which were awesome. A bit rich but so worth it! The cornbread was all right but second banana to the other items. The atmosphere was laid-back, and the other diners appeared to be a mix of friends, couples, and families. Finally cheated on pig beach with Butcher Bar and it was worth the trip. PB was closed on Monday (maybe for the winter it's a thing?) so we went there. Really kind staff, delicious burnt ends, and a plate serving that is filling or enough for you to take some home for the next day. At least for the meats. I think the flavors of the ribs beat out PB. But the corn bread didn't. Beans were ok. I would have preferred the classic white bread or crackers with pickles. Prices felt high on menu but the tastes, quality, and portions made it on par. We ordered a three meat pork combo. It came with very tasty bbq pork belly(a first for me), ribs, pulled pork, pickles and two sides. Our order arrived very quickly and everything was quite good. Pork belly was fatty and delicious. Ribs were also good and a decent portion. And the pulled pork was tasty but just a bit dry. Macaroni & Cheese was just ok and the cornbread was fine. Just walked by this place and decided to try. We tried the Butcher's Platter, which comes with 3 x 1/4lb meat choices and 3 sides. Came with a couple pcs of cornbread and some sliced pickles. We picked 2 of the pork belly which was our favorite; and 1 brisket, which was bland so for me, it needed sauce. Ordered 1/4 lb of burnt ends which were tasty but a bit fatty. Sides were good portions. Apple-smoked bacon baked beans, mac and cheese, cheese fries and sauteed spinach were all good with the meat. Located along busy and vibrant 30th avenue in Astoria. Every time I come visit my best friend. I have a craving for barbecue and beg him to come to this place. I don't know why he's been so hesitant. This place was delicious! For starters, I came starving, so I contemplated between three different appetizers. Finally, we decided on the chefs queso it was so good and the chips tasted fresh. My best friend got the meat candy sandwich, which I regretted not getting myself because I tasted it and it was delicious! I got the El Diablo sandwich, pulled pork with jalapeños and some spicy sauce, which wasn't that spicy to me but that was delicious as well. Because I'm greedy.
