WOW! What happened to Busy Bee?!?! I should have known when the parking lot and restaurant were empty. First, they were out of Diet Coke - how does this happen - go buy some cans. Glad they were though because $4.50 was waaaay pricey (I ordered a water instead). Secondly, I ordered a Western omelet without onion and asked what kind of cheese came on it - NONE - paid extra - and they only offer swiss or american. When it came out, guess what, it had onions - sent it back. Thirdly, I ordered DRY, dark white toast and it came out buttered - sent it back. Next I ask for a few more pats of butter, guess what, they didn't have any more. Finally, the bill comes - almost $18.00 (with tax) for an omelet!!!!! One of the best diners around Tampa. Their food is unreasonably good, especially for the affordable price. I came here twice for lunch, one time getting their amazing cuban burger (burger with pulled pork on it). It was so big I used a fork and knife to eat it. My husband and I hosted a couple of out of town friends and since we were in that area during breakfast time, I suggested this diner. I remembered how much I enjoyed going there about a decade ago and assumed that if they're still in business, they must still be good. Well while the food and service were great, I was truly embarrassed for suggesting this place. It looked like they haven't had any renovations in a looong time. Filthy ceiling tiles, probably from the "smoking days", curtain rods kept up by zip ties, remanence of COVID with the plastic dividers between the booths. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint and the wall decor could use some dusting, straightening, and replacing with something less faded. We all ordered omelettes. They arrived quickly and were delicious. Our server was friendly and efficient. I hope that they do decide to spruce up the place and make it nice again. read more

Happened upon this place this morning for breakfast, while the place was quite busy. I found a seat immediately at the counter and was waiting on very promptly. We checked the website and found daily specials. When we arrived , there weren't any. The waitress said she's been here 6 years and there never have been. My husband ordered liver and onions. Talk about tough, he needed to use the steak knife provided to saw thru his meat. The salad was sub par with three leafs of lettuce, a thick slice of onion and tomato. My mom mentions trying The Busy Bee every time we drive past, so yesterday we stopped in for the first time. Broccoli and cheese stuffed chicken breasts were not at all what anyone should expect. They looked to be straight out of the frozen food section of Win Dixie. ...maybe Stouffer's or Sarah Lee. Served with a great pile of mashed potatoes, all of it drowned in gravy straight from the jar. Canned peas, luckily, we're on small side dish so, easy to send away. Waitresses never asked why I asked her to take them nor did she enquirer about the food in general. (Funny side note: hostess took our drink order right away but, didn't know what club soda is and had to ask the waitress.) Mom's vegie omelette was totally scorched and dried out with no cheese. She is now telling me " it was the worst omelette I've ever had." Her hash browns were black on the bottom and the rye toast was heavily lathered with margarine that didn't quite melt. This was on a Thursday, early afternoon and there were about five tables seated. Just our experience. Hope this helps. ...Almost forgot the soup of the day: Ordered a cup of New England clam chowder. It is hard to describe: There was, what looked to be, an entire quarter potato protruding above the surface. Not wanting to fill up on potatoes, I fished it out, and set it on the saucer. I then proceeded to fish out three more equally huge 1/4 potato chunks leaving my "cup" half full of ok, canned chowder with tasty but very chewy clams. He gets his usual, meat omelet with home fries and wheat toast and I do have my typical too but sometimes I switch it up. This day I did have my usual, scrambled eggs, grits, turkey sausage and an English muffin. I like to mix it all together. My guy says I shouldn't eat everyone's grits (makes your stomach hurt) but I do it anyway. Our food came quickly and we thanked God together as we typically do over our meals and we dug in. The food was good. Not too many ways you can mess up eggs but it does happen. They have a candy dish at the checkout stand that had lollipops in it and I saw a sweet little girl walk up, stand in line in order To get herself a treat. It was the cutest thing. This place is definitely a mom and pop joint that remembers its regulars, treats everyone with a smiling face, and leaves you with a full belly.
