Had breakfast here this morning and Kevin was our server. Great diner food and quick service with a smile. I ordered bananas with my pancake and there were like 4 slices but as they put it down Kevin was already on it to get more lol Hubby got shrimp n grits and said they were delicious with creamy grits but needed a bit of seasoning. We shared the pancake and it's definitely huge but I wouldn't say it's a hubcap unless it's a small tire. Nice flavor, average pancake overall. Egg platter with white cheese grits and wheat toast. We came here for the outdoor seating since have a little dog with us. The weather was perfect this morning so perfect location for sitting outside & in the shade. The food is consistently good, I had an egg white omelette that was outstanding with their famous potatoes and my honey had two fried eggs with potatoes. Let's talk about their killer potatoes- they roast them then cut them up and then either pan fry them or bake them again. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So good! I have been watching this diner on social media and finally had time to take my grandson and daughter with me to have breakfast! The parking lot is small but there is plenty of street parking-you may to just walk a little bit (allows more calories at breakfast)! We didn't have a wait to be seated outside and it was a beautiful morning! Our server Rebecca was amazing-she had a great personality and took good care of us! My daughter ordered an omelette with fruit and toast and it was such a generous portion she shared it with my 2 year old grandson! I had the burrito buster and it was huge but delicious! This is our go to place for good home style food. We have loved it since our first visit. The fabulous staff is part of the reason it is so nice. It feels like an old style diner. We normally go for breakfast. The eggs are always prepared perfectly, l love the thick flavorful premium bacon while my husband really likes the patty sausage. We share for savory tastes of each. The best side (in our opinions) cheese grits. They are the best grits we have ever had, smooth, creamy and perfectly seasoned. You can get lunch and dinner too. I also like the clean bathrooms. Parking is tough. You may have to walk a ways through the neighborhood. On weekends there will be a wait for breakfast. It is worth it. read more

Excellent little St. Pete Florida treasure. Menu has a great variety of options all of which are on the spectrum of traditional breakfast items. Service was great- server was friendly and attentive. Small diner but cute with historical local stories and memorabilia in the tables and on the walls as you enter. Small parking lot maybe fits 15 cars so keep that in mind when coming to visit. Been there dozens of times over the years. Yesterday's visit was the last time we will eat there. We had to listen to the staff in the kitchen hollering, laughing and yelling for most of the stay. Good music but they drowned it out. WTF? Grilled chicken breasts so overcooked they were difficult to cut through. I have to question why I ate them but I did not want any replacement from that kitchen. Sounded like a prison environment. Wife ordered breakfast (for dinner) and it was lukewarm. Server could have made sure I had the marinara I specifically asked for as they were NOT busy, yet I was half finished by the time I got it. My conclusion was that they were so focused on having a good time, they forgot why they were there. Never again. read more

I wanted to try the chicken and waffles but they don't have 100% real maple syrup which is always a deal breaker for me, p.s. offer it for an up-charge ;) This I landed on chicken and biscuits and they were delicious. The chicken had a nice peppery and flavorful breading. I do wish more sausage gravy came with the meal... why because I wasn't expecting 2 biscuits with the split breast. Moved to St Petersburg Gateway neighborhood about a year ago. Drive past Trips on 9th often, finally decided to stop in for breakfast another time for lunch. Solid place both visits!! Major disappointment on the salads. Was really looking forward to a crispy romaine salad and instead got soggy wilted lettuce, not worthy of eating. Also, adding to my disappointment was trying to eat my meal while fighting several flies going for my food. I'm eating inside in A/C, so why I'm being attacked by flies? The sauce on the meatloaf was tasty, but I would have preferred a bit more zip and the collards lacked the depth of flavor found in real southern cooking. The meatloaf itself was at least a full half pound and was jucy and full of assorted flavors. The iced tea actually tasted like iced tea. The price Mas reasonable at $13.95. The ambiance was that of a typical dinner. The service was friendly and efficient. The place was packed and parking is space. It is always crazy packed the 3 times I have tried. This places an incredible pressure on kitchen and servers with hundreds of variations in orders and personalities. I am 0-3 actually getting what I ordered. What I received has been this far good enough to not write it off when I am in the mood for their offerings. Also REALLY depends on your taste preferences...I am vegetarian so many items offered I am not interested to consume... it appears to be a carnivores oasis. Mostly traditional menu with a few seafood items sprinkled in to keep with the Florida vibe. Everything was cooked perfectly. The decor is classic with framed photos from the past with a nod to the local area. Our waitress was nice, attentive and quick to help despite running multiple tables the entire time we were there. If you don't want to wait for a table they do have a few seats at the counter that are first come first serve. They also have a nice patio area for those who want to sit outside. It's in a residential neighborhood so the parking is a little difficult especially on the weekends. I would recommend the Big Breakfast, Corned Beef Hash, and the Avocado Toast. Would have given five stars if only based on the service that Deb W provided. We arrived on 6/10/26 about 4 mins before 7:00. Deb greeted us with a smile on her face and song in her heart. Told us to sit anywhere and took our drink order. She was gracious and welcoming. I noticed other customers coming in looking for Deb and she acknowledged all of them. Deb kept checking on us and all the others throughout our meal. The breakfast was good as well. Now for the not so good part which caused the three stars. While Deb was getting our drinks the manager went up to Deb and admonished Deb her for letting us in a few minutes early. We were able to see and hear the manager. It made us feel uncomfortable and upset that Deb was in trouble. We told her we will wait a minute until 7:00 to place the order. Kept watching the manager who never really smiled. A person came to place a to go order and the manager was handling and a guest came up to pay. The manager told the guest she will help them. While multi tasking she gave the customer paying the incorrect change back. Would I come back only based on the managers actions and persona no. Would I come back based on Deb W absolutely and I would recommend if possible folks get the pleasure of Deb W service. read more
