We are new to the area, and used yelp to find nearby restaurants for an early lunch. We just happened to be less than a block away from busy bee. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff member. I could not believe the low prices and the menu options, pleasantly surprised. I went with my husband and three kids, everyone was pleased with what they ordered. Not only was the staff attentive to our needs, the other patrons were also extremely nice. The Bee has the best breakfast in Cullman. Thick smoked bacon and homemade biscuits are awesome. Hash browns and gravy are really good too. For lunch, I like the loaded nachos minus the nachos and add fries with extra jalapeños and ranch. Sweet tea and coffee are great as well. read more

They get 3 stars for the friendly service and low priced eats. But my husband and I learned that we are not fans of 'old fashioned' hamburgers which little did we know are patties made with a meat/bread mixture and deep fried. Although I enjoyed my homemade chips and fried pickles by the time I finished all the fried food I just wanted an apple. Be aware you'll also leave there smelling like you bathed in the deep fryer. It did get pretty full at lunchtime so I know it's popular among the locals. I can understand the hype if you grew up adapting to the taste of old fashioned hamburgers. Food- cheap, mediocre, but ok if you can actually order Atmosphere- you're not acknowledged and audible sighs when you ask for things I sat for 7 straight minutes on two occasions waiting for someone to even acknowledge my existence. Disappointing meal tonight. Our waitress abandoned serving us when 2 young girls came in to order some drinks. We finally had to ask someone else for drink refills. She never came back to our table to see how our food was, because she was too busy taking a smoke break (apparently serving wine and a mixed drink is that exhausting). I tried the weekend special (sirloin). It had to be sent back because it came out mooing and the final product wasn't tender. We did appreciate the chef offering to bring our daughter's meal out so she didn't have to wait. Busy Bee is a local establishment and I'd always prefer to give them my business, but I expect some service. To respond to Busy Bee: 1) we also watched her (waitress) eat at the counter, so it wasn't her first break. Also, there was exactly one other table filled in the restaurant at our arrival. She spent so much time worrying about the new customers that you had to deliver our food (5 minutes after you called to her that it was ready) 2) the steak came back still rare, so it wasn't over cooked. The only part that was cooked better was the part I had previously cut. 3) it took 4 employees to help make those young girls' drinks. Seems to me like y'all felt they would be providing a better tip that two local people who eat there regularly. The girls were "driving through" and received an epic amount of attention. Sometimes instead of trying to justify mistakes in your restaurant, you should acknowledge they happen and try to correct them. There are plenty of other establishments in Cullman. read more

This is hands-down, the worst hamburger I've ever eaten. I didn't know it was possible to mess up a burger this badly, but in the future, I'll be asking any cafe I order a burger in if they have special ingredients in their burgers. Honestly, the burger was apparently breaded before frying, making it extremely dry. I searched for the meat in it, but I couldn't find it amongst all of the fillers. The service was terrible, too--the waitress walked off in the middle of us ordering, and they were out of half the beers they advertised. The fries and onion rings were no different than the ones you can buy in the grocery store. Their breakfast may be their best selling point, but I would steer clear of any other meal there. read more

We moved to Cullman several years ago and I frequent the Busy Bee several times a year. I personally like their Hamburgers but my wife doesn't care for them. I think it's an acquired taste and a lesson in Depression era history at the same time. The hamburgers are really cheap but are not all beef. They have a bread filler which was common back when beef was expensive and hard to come by when you had no money. Don't expect 5 Guys when you go to the Busy Bee. It's a whole different deal but I like it. The hamburger is the only thing that's radically different. Everything else is very normal and very good. My first visit to one of Cullman's oldest restaurants. Established in 1919, the interior has been updated to kind of a modernized diner with counter seating and booths and an open kitchen. A black board listing draft beer selections hangs above a dozen taps with varied selections of local and craft beers including 2 offerings from Cullman's own Goat Island Brewery. The server was friendly and appeared to know her regulars, as I heard her call more than one diner by name. The menu was commensurate with what you'd expect from a diner including burgers, sandwiches, salads, chicken fingers and breakfast until 11:00. The prices listed by each item were inexpensive maybe $2.25 for the deluxe cheese burger, 1.50 for fries, so my co-worker and I assumed the portion size would be on the small side and ordered accordingly. Before we ordered the burgers we told the server we hadn't been there before so she explained the burger patty is combined with dough. I've had a dough burger before and I didn't care for it at all. I knew better but ordered it anyway. I hedged the burger order with a fried bologna sandwich and an order of fries. My co-worker ordered similarly instead ordering a BLT as his second sandwich. The dough burger is an acquired taste. Texturally its like having a sausage ball patty, minus the flavor. Thereby affirming my distaste for dough burgers in general. The fried bologna on the other had was awesome. A griddled half inch thick slice of bologna atop toast with super fresh tomato, mayo and lettuce. Hot, crisp lightly salted crinkle cut fries completed my meal. My co-worker and I agreed the hedge bet on additional sandwiches saved the meal for us. He enjoyed his BLT as I did my fried bologna. In all actuality I think he was a bit jealous of my bologna. Overall a very good experience. I like the friendly service, history, updated diner atmosphere, craft beer selection and value. I would absolutely go back. I imagine the place draws a tremendous breakfast crowd on the weekend. I wouldn't mind trying breakfast there myself and would if it weren't roughly 70 miles from home. If you've never had a dough burger and you decide you want to try their version. Be prepared to order a backup sandwich. The server told us when we ordered them we could send them back if we didn't like them, but for 2 bucks the thought didn't cross my mind, even thought they are pretty unappetizing. Gotta give them 4-stars because I am a fan given that there are few local spots in Cullman that are not chains. They are along the lines of Waffle House and while service can sometimes be slow, they are always friendly. They do a lot of frying here, it is the South after all and don't dare ask for egg whites, but it's a tasty spot to grab breakfast or lunch. Now that they have their liquor license I believe they're open for dinner. Make sure to checkout the menu over the register that was found some ways away after the 2011 tornado destroyed their location. They built back in the same spot and I love to support small businesses, especially after going through an ordeal like that. The Busy Bee is a great place for breakfast and a lot of others must think so as well. It's always busy but there always seems to be a table or booth available. Don't wait on a hostess to seat you -- there isn't one. The service is good and my sister and I got our orders in what seemed like 5 minutes. The food is good, solid, Southern fare. I got the eggs (over med), bacon, toast and gravy. The gravy was not to my taste (from a mix maybe?) but everything else tasted great. The prices are quite fair as well. read more

This was my first and only trip to the Busy Bee. I understand its a Landmark. I stopped by for an early dinner. The Good: Cheap prices and they have a liquor and beer license. A microbrewed beer was just $5 a pint. The Bad.........my Food. I had a hamburger and french fried chips. The hamburger which was already cooked and was a odd mixture of hamburger and bread. Definitely not what I wanted....a nice all beef burger. The chips might have been good if they had been cooked especially for me, I guess they were sitting under a warming light. I love this place for so many reasons. I grew up walking from my grandmother's florist for bologna biscuits before school, and since its unfortunate demise in 2011, Kyle has made it far better than before! 1) the burgers are breaded, and I crave the taste at random times, because they are fantastic. The tomatoes are always fresh and delicious, and the buns are yummy, too! 2) their craft beer selection is the best and by far the cheapest I've seen outside of Europe! 3) the family who owns the place is knowledgeable and friendly. Don't really know what they used for meat, but it was not just ground beef. Might have had a filler in there and no flavor. We might have come at a bad time. I stopped in for lunch with a large group from work. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. I ordered the BBQ burger and fries. The burger was good and the fries were average. The absolute best thing about this place are the prices. If I had ordered a water, I could've ate for less than $5. Compared to what you'd get at a McChain restaurant, the quality and quantity is much better at Busy Bee. I'll be back next time I'm in Cullman. read more

Sorely disappointed. Deciding between Downtown Grill and Busy Bee, was told go to Busy Bee. Not quite 1pm, only a few people there. Ordered cheeseburger and an order of fries. Server brought meal and check, proceeded to add some condiments to burger, if you like your burgers mushy and warm, did not even begin to melt cheese, you might enjoy this burger, fries were also only warm-sad part is server never came around to ask how my food was. Will not go here again if that is the best they can offer. Have heard from others that dinners are great, guess I will never know. read more

Had read good reviews on this place. So decided to try it out, because you never know if you don't go. It was my first and last visit. I'm just not into bland burgers. Well, I use the term "burger" loosely. There is hardly any beef in these. The "meat mixture" is pulled out of a 5 gallon bucket. Yes, that's what I said, a bucket. We sat at the counter and watched the cook. I was a little disgusted by that. But I figured I would "nut up" and hang tough. That should have been my sign. The burgers came and upon my first bite it had a crust on the outside. That was a huge turn off. The "burger" tasted like cardboard. No flavor at all! Hence, the cheap prices. Soybeans are cheap and that's mostly what the burgers are. Some people obviously like this burger. But if you prefer yours to have flavor, pass this place up. Not worth your time! read more
