We were seated and greeted quickly, our beverages came out quickly, we ordered our breakfasts, and then we waited... and waited... and waited. I could see the kitchen pickup area from my seat, and I saw meals come out pretty slowly, maybe 1 or 2 at a time. These were delivered to tables as they came out, but I never any table get all of their meals at the same time. After about a 30 minute wait, when our waitress came over for refills (thankfully), she said our meals would come out "shortly." This wound up being more than 15 minutes more, and during that time she never came back over to us with updates or made eye contact. Once our meals did arrive, my meal was piping hot, but the other meal was lukewarm. I did see several other orders of my meal come up on the serving counter. It is possible that the kitchen was backed up, because customers seated after us got their meals in a much shorter amount of time. More likely, something happened to my order - possibly wrong or mis-delivered - and a backup order was needed. All the waitresses here were very young, and maybe they were not comfortable giving unpleasant updates about a meal problem. Personally, I would have preferred an update (I worked in restaurants years ago, I understand these things happen). SImply avoiding updates is, to me, a worse thing. Apart from meal #2 being lukewarm, everything else about our meals was good, quite enjoyable and filling. When we got our bill, I noticed that I was charged for coffee, even though the menu specifically said coffee was included. The waitress did not realize it was included, apologized, and corrected it. But there is no apparent rhyme or reason as to why certain menu items include free coffee or tea and others do not. It's too bad this happened, because for service otherwise, food quality, and restaurant location, it can be pretty good.

Hit and miss. If…read moreyou like burgers in Canada, you'll probably find their burgers fine. To me, they are overcooked (as required by Canadian law) and lean. I don't like them. They have smash burgers on the menu online but no longer offer them. The fries are drenched in herbs. If this sounds good to you, you might like them. My wife does. I thought they were awful. I asked for fries without herbs, and the replacements they gave me still tasted so herby that I could not eat them. Did they use the same bowl or something? I'll never get fries there again. Service is slow. I waited 10 minutes to get my small water glass refilled. Finally I looked for my server and saw him watching a golf game on TV. The mac and cheese is my favourite thing on the menu. I get it with chorizo and think it's delicious.

I really wish I'd gotten a photo of the little waiting area. They have all these colourful couches and lamps. It's like a little parlour. The spot is just so cozy. I even had to take a picture of the walls where the downstairs washrooms are located. They had gorgeous sunflowers painted all over them. The service is every bit as good as the food. The mimosas are worth it, lots of bubbles (some places really skimp, not Chesterfield's). They have many gluten-free options, which always makes me feel like I can eat like everyone else. I ordered the Bird's Nest Benny. The eggs were the most perfectly poached I've ever had at a restaurant. A side came with the benny, and I got the baked beans. The food was absolutely delicious. Potatoes, eggs, bacon, and maple-lime hollandaise that was to die for. There was so much food. Impossible to walk away hungry. Service was perfect as well. His name wasn't on the receipt, but he treated me like I was just as important as the group diners. No solo diner curse here. Cute spot, very clean, perfect service and food with quality ingredients. I will definitely stop in when I'm in Ottawa again.

Service was a bit slow to get drinks, and there were no water refills, and it was a slow start to place our orders. Some of our plates did sit at the table before they were taken away for quiet sometime. Our waitress was friendly and did not rush us out of the restaurant. Whenever we asked for something she brought it. The restaurant was clean as well as the bathrooms (minus the obscene writing on the bathroom stalls from guests), I guess we can call that bathroom charm.? lol. I did read prior reviews and was not looking forward to the visit here, but the vibe was really good. I love how they had massive TV's all around the restaurant playing sports. Everyone was having a great time. The food was just basic though. The hubs had the wings and said they were OK. I had the nachos and could make better at home. The flatbread was decent. Everyone else at the table ordered burgers and fries, and the portions were pretty small. The quality of the food justifies the menu price they are charging, and I don't think the 3% honest to goodness tax should be charged. The prices are almost on par with other food establishment (think montanas, east side marios), that I do think they should just get rid of that extra "tax" I mean 15 bucks for a plate of basic nachos aint cheap. And as I mentioned, the portions are not massive. I wouldn't come back for the food, but I can recommend checking it out if you enjoy some cheap beer and a cool place to watch sports.

Continental meets Italian style dining with a little Italian style Market upfront. Service was professional, kind but minimal. Ordered was a Caesar salad with a grilled salmon filet added. Very healthy. The dressing was more of a vinaigrette served with lemon wedge. I did not eat the croutons, thats just me. They were ok. Salmon was well seasoned but was missing something, spice or a citrus sauce. I ate it all, as is. Light, light lunch. I never finish a dish and I did! Rolls came with my meal..they were just ok. Took them home! Nothing goes to waste on my table!! My company had the mushroom sandwich on focaccia. It came with a salad. She really liked it. The house white wine was quite good. We wore our coats for much of the visit as unfortunately, it was very cold in there and most seats are against the large windows. Dessert was offered but nothing was done extra for the birthday and that's ok. But good to note. We liked the stain glass art that hung and that was for sale. We also liked that we were not rushed out of there as my company had come from quite aways and we chatted for a bit. Water glasses never refilled though. I could see the cooks making the fresh linguine in the back for dinner service. Yum! I also met the owner. He was cordial. It didn't blow me away here but I'd like to try a pizza and a pasta item one day. I would recommend to others. Good location with plenty of parking. If you see one day on line that they are booked up re seating, call and they will take your reso that way as they likely have space.

And lo and behold, Triple D indeed made a stop into Jax, which is about a five minute walk from our rental. So it was on a recent Tuesday morning that I popped in and ordered the Banana Bread French Toast ("House banana bread, served with cinnamon apple compote, local maple syrup, fresh whipped cream") for takeout. The food was ready about 10 minutes later and I was back at the rental and eating five minutes after that. It's really, really good. The French toast by itself is impressively not too sweet, but the when you eat it with the syrup and the apple compote and the cream, it turns into a perfectly balanced, super delicious concoction. I also got their ice coffee and we both agreed that it was far better than most ice coffees we've ever had. What an awesome little place.
