A great stop that is conveniently located right by the bus stop in SF with even greater prices! As a public transit fan, I couldn't help but to stop by when I stumbled into this pizza place. It was quite empty when I walked in on a late afternoon hungry after walking by the nearby Buena Vista Park and needed some fuel. The owner is an older AAPI man who was friendly and I spent a better part of a hour talking him about the city and politics. It is a minimalistic place with all the functional furnishings with a small seating area up front where you can people watch. I got a larger than expected slice of pepperoni pizza ($4.50 pre tax and tip) which is super filling and heated quickly for you. The owner mentioned that business has been slow with the changing demographics in SF. I hope more business comes by because it is a solid pizza place at a reasonable price! read more

If you want fancy, deep dish pizza, or true New York pizza, you will need to go somewhere else, like you guessed it, New York! Deep dish can be done well in the Bay Area and there are places like Frankie, Johnny and Luigi, too that are outstanding (not for take-out). And then there are places like Escape From New York Pizza that have lots of sugar in the sauce of their doughy slices, which is nice if that's what you are into. How can you screw up pizza? They manage to achieve this in a few ways. Maybe I visited on an off day because I can't imagine them staying in business if what I got was the norm. When I think of "pizza by the slice," I think quick and unexceptional. Satisfactory--like mall pizza--pizza by name alone and otherwise a tolerable imposter. The pizza at Bus Stop was bad. The crust was like a Pop Tart dough.: dry, flavorless, and of dubious relation to bread. The sauce was sparse and unremarkable. And so with the toppings. I got one combo and one pepperoni. Because it's not worth going into detail, I will limit my comment to the "sausage." It was more like overcooked ground beef. It was waxy and flavorless--I had to scrape it of in a failed effort to make the slice edible. Both my wife and I ended up tossing our slices before the halfway mark. After that, we sat silently, confused and angry, for several minutes. It is my duty to add that after I had ordered, I lingered awkwardly for more than 15 minutes in the soiled seating area, trying to ignore the cashier watching TV as I thought about how, if I were her, I would instead spend my downtime cleaning the dining area, sweeping and wiping down surfaces. It took so long, I began to question if I had actually placed an order... or if they forgot, even though I was the only one there... In hindsight, I would have been lucky had either scenario been true. As I took my boxed slices, yet unaware that it would be my last visit, I asked if there was a menu I could take. It was a decent slice of pizza wouldn't go out of my way for it but if you're craving pizza, it's not bad. The Banh Mi was listed on a small piece of paper facing the outside and I wanted to try it. Damn, this used to be a good slice of NY right here--though not quite as good as Arinell's. Others may have had a reheated slice, but I had two cheese slices, straight from the oven, and they were fantastic. FYI, true NY pizza is judged by a slice of cheese pizza--there is no need for any toppings. It's all about the crust, sauce, and cheese. The crust was very thin, but not as thin as arinell's. The sauce was good, but too sour for my taste in NY pizza--needed a little more sweetness I think. The overall cheese-crust-sauce proportion was pretty much spot-on. A nice even layer of cheese over the entire slice....ahhhh.... simply gorgeous. Another day, another slice of mediocre pizza. My biggest pet peeve with this shithole is that they make the pizzas without toppings and then when you ask for them, they put them on and then re-heat them, so you end up with this super messy slice where your toppings fall off. I require topping integration - is this too much to ask? It leaves me yearning for my days of living across from Escape from NY, which as we all know, is good but you know, it's no Original Ray's. I didn't order pizza from here for a while because I usually order when everyone but Mr. Pizzaman is closed. The next time I did check out Bus Stop, and the following time, and the time after that, and the time after that, it was, well, OK. I kept telling myself that it couldn't be true; hadn't my first pizza been excellent? It had been, but it was just that time.
