I was so hungry after a workout one day I decided to give this place a shot and boy did I regret it. The chicken is bland and tough, the steak tastes boiled instead of being grilled, there's hardly any taste in anything. Maybe I've become too picky with all the taquerias I've gone to, but I really didn't think a place could be this bad. wow, I expected the review to be better than this. I visited several times and it's my favorite! I usually get "Taco Salad" and it's less than $5. I love the CRUNCHY shell and home made style beef. Baja Fresh has one and it's like $7, but the shell is not crunchy/crisp and meat is hard. If you like taco salad, you gotta try this one. I also tried their Burrito and was awesome. I used to go here all the time but that was years ago. This place is strategically placed where it is convenient for high schoolers from Milpitas High who don't drive and pour into this place (right about 3pm). Seating is limited and no large tables here so expect to take out or sit on the sidewalk as most high schoolers are obligated to do. The place is fairly basic, the shredded beef is dry and the cheese seems like its just supermarket bag quality, nothing amazing. I always loved their pico de gallo here because it always seems fresh. On the scale of mexican food joints this place ranks low. I live in Los Angeles and San Jose is the spot for Mexican food joints but unfortunately burrito express fails to compare. read more

I've been coming here since I was going to the high school nearby (over 15 years ago) despite moving away. Every time I found myself back in Milpitas, I'd make it a point to stop here and say hi to the owner and get myself some of their shredded beef enchiladas. Got a breakfast burrito with potatoes (well it was supposed to have potatoes). The chorizo tasted like ground beef. It didn't have the orangey look to it or that spice you know and love about chorizo. And did I mention they didn't put potatoes in my burrito? I got a chimichanga and it's not bad. BUT! Compared to other taquerias' , I would rather go somewhere else. Las Vegas Taqueria that's near by has a chimichanga and it's WAY better and you can bring home chips & salsa! You can't beat that! I also tried the Soft Taco's and my wife And I were disappointed ! It was just DRY !! I would rather go to Taco Bell for a soft taco! My wife was expecting a taco like from Las Vegas taqueria and it's like a soft taco from Taco Bell but DRY! I really want to like this place. The food is slightly above average so I'd probably come back in a pinch. The primary issue with Burrito Express is the customer service and inconsistency. Even though I was told they serve breakfast until 12pm, when I called to order a breakfast burrito at 11:50am, they told me they were done serving breakfast. The vegetarian nachos here used to make up a good portion of my diet. I used to go quite often when I worked nearby. Shaquille, the guy who took orders, was always a joy to be around. Hey pretty good for "express" food! When we ordered here for the first time we were like hmm how come we've never been here??? We were impressed with the quality and taste for what it is. The pricing wasn't too bad and the quality was better than I expected. Even though we were an initial fan we haven't been back yet lol. I don't mind coming here again. We had a good experience. Reading other people's bad experience kinda scares me but hey that's everywhere right? They have really old school pictures on the wall and it's so cool to see prom pics from like the 1990s and it brings back so much memories from that amazing decade. There are chairs and tables so you can dine in if you want. There's also those toy dispensers where you put in 4 quarters and you get a toy in a plastic ball container thingy. The food is good if you need a quick burrito fix, but tastes surprisingly bland and uninspired. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, but this place is pretty good. In my junior year of high school(2005), I would always get their breakfast burrito & it was the best. I recently introduced this place to my brother & sister. Since then, we get food maybe every week. What I don't like is that I call in to place an order to-go & by the time I drive there, the food still isn't ready. I call in ahead to cut out wait time. Each time I've called, at least 15 min has passed for us to arrive, the cashier will tell the cook "the to-go is here" & he will start cooking! Huh?? Defeats the purpose of even calling. The burrito that my husband ordered was so small and skinny. Burritos should be fat, not skinny. He was disappointed. I'm big on nachos, so I ordered nachos. I know the place is called BURRITO Express, but you'd expect them to have decent nachos, right? No. Their nachos consists of salty (bagged, probably) tortilla chips, smothered in chalky tasting cheese, topped with shredded lettuce, sour cream and the meat of your choice (my choice was chicken). I had to ask for pico de gallo, which was dull in color (probably from sitting for such a long time). They didn't offer guacamole. So far so good. The only thing I've had here is their super steak burrito. For about $7 the burrito is really good. The meat tastes fresh and overall the burrito melts in your mouth. With a bit of salsa, it's pretty amazing. The service is quick and the guy at the counter is really nice and will chitchat with you. The only downfall and I'm not taking a star off for it because it's not their fault and it helps keep the business open is the fact that teeny boppers surrounds the place after school. I have loved this place since I was a little kid and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I love this place because you can order an express burrito and add your own salsa to taste instead of it already on the burrito messing up the flavor... I actually prefer this over Chipotle believe it or not... My only complaint now is that the prices went up and it kinda seems like the portions are smaller but I guess thats the same story for most places (including Chipotle). The owner is a really nice guy too, he could pay other people to do all the work and he just writes the checks but he is back there making the food too so that's pretty cool. I am writing this review while I enjoy the satisfying chile rellanos I purchased from Taqueria Las Vegas because Burrito Express has, once again, advised me that they "didn't have" chile rellanos today. What? No eggs? No cheese? No Ranchero sauce? Jeez, it's not foie gras or fine dining. How difficult is it to find a chef who can stuff a couple of peppers with cheese, dip 'em in egg and fry 'em in oil? Please, Burrito Express, I beseech you then...remove them from your regular menu--this isn't the first time--and make them a "special" available only when you can produce them. There is nothing more disappointing than craving a certain regular menu item and finding that it's unavailable. I left without ordering anything. So for those of you craving a chile rellano from BE, call ahead. Or better yet, get them from any one of the other 4 major Mexican restaurants in town, Taqueria Las Vegas, Baja Cactus, Casa Azteca, or La Milpa. read more
