Drove out to Athens to check out Burrito Express after hearing good things, and it was definitely worth it. Right away the vibe felt right -- ESPN on the screens, good music, and you can tell it's a family-run spot that takes pride in what they do. The awards for best Mexican restaurant in Limestone County over the years definitely show. The salsa was fresh and really good, and I had seen a review about the quesadilla cheese pull... it lived up to it. Rice and beans were solid, and the cold Modelo in a chilled glass with fresh lime hit perfectly. Prices on the lunch menu are reasonable, which makes it an easy spot to come back to. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and came here after seeing several very positive reviews and due to the close proximity to my hotel. So it is with a heavy heart that I relay that I was pretty underwhelmed, in fact downright disappointed. Maybe I caught it at a bad night or that would covid-19 going on quality has slipped, however this meal was subpar and more than once made me wonder what I was eating. Let me start off with the good. The service wals mostly good. The one exception was my initial server who brought me my drink and as I began to order stop me midstream after being called away by someone. A new server came over a few minutes later and took my order. I don't know if she approached the wrong table or what, but that was the one slight on an otherwise great service experience. As for the food. Here is where it falls completely apart. I ordered what has become my go to in a Mexican restaurant. The chile verde for me is a great test for a Mexican restaurant and what it will offer. Chile verde is supposed to be in a tomatillo sauce that is light green in color, this was a glaringly dark green sauce, a color that I had never seen before on the literally hundreds of chile verde meals I have had all across this country. As a side note, it was also very unappealing looking. Good taste oh, well, let's just say it was not chile verde. The refried beans tasted out of a can and the rice tasted overcooked and was from a box of Mexican minute rice bought at 75% off at the dollar store. Yelp offered a free sopapilla for checking in. This was also way over cooked, to the point that it crumbled to small pieces as I attempted to pull it apart. All in all this meal was very much the let down and I will not be returning. read more

So I went to this restaurant for my boyfriends cousins birthday lunch from out of town , I will say that the service for such a big party was good and the food was really really good, I loved the decor of the place and overall vibe but here comes the problem, food poisoning, severe horrible food poisoning. So not sure what went wrong or what caused this because the food didn't just look horrible it actually tasted amazing. I had the chicken fajita and the rice but something there really messed up my stomach, it's been a growling 48 hours of non stop diarrhea and throwing up it's like satan himself squeezed my intestines and stomach. I don't believe time was the issue, as we arrived before they said it would be ready & our food was waiting for us. However, the tacos & chalupa didn't hold up. Everything else was fine. We expected from the name for this to be a counter you get burritos at and almost didn't go. This is an EXCELLENT restaurant. I'm from the Los Angeles area and was despairing of finding a good place. After eating the grilled beef burrito, which was delicious and filling and extremely reasonably priced, we came to the conclusion that there was only one place in L.A. we've eaten with Mexican food as good as here (Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas. Better than Las Fuentes in the Valley.) We are telling everyone in the Huntsville area about this place. Hoping we can get them enough business to open a second location closer to Huntsville. I'm going with a 3 star, mostly for service. I know it was 6:30 on a Saturday, but having to wait to place drink orders is ridiculous, especially with a restaurant not even half full. Very disappointed. Got tacos and husband got nacho supreme. It was not what he was expecting. Looked like a layered tostada. My tacos were on stale corn shells. Not at all crunchy. I threw them away after eating some of it. Could they not have some pride in their work? Sad. Won't be back. read more

I went back to the store and they said it might have been from a plastic container where they store their food and they said one of their cooks must have chopped the food in the container. Went to this restaurant because I heard it was a really good place. I went by myself. The hostess set me at a booth to fit 6 people. They had a smaller one open. They were busy but not slammed. The waiter for my booth kept busy. I ordered the top shelf big magharita it was way to strong. I had to ask for water to drink with it. I couldn't even finish it. The food was brought out very quickly, it was burned on the outside not cooked good at all. The beans & rice were cold. I couldn't finish it so I took it home. My son tried eating mine plus what I ordered for him. We both got sick on it. I will never eat there again. The only thing I can say is the staff was nice. read more

This place is a hidden gym and I've found take away to be easy and the order is always correct, ready to go when they tell us it will be and affordable. The portions are huge, a burrito is easily 2 meals and a snack for me. The chorizo deluxe dip is so bueno!!!! I sometimes just stuff myself with those and chips and eat the burrito later. I love love love this place. Great food and drinks! Service is always impeccable. I highly recommend the California Burrito. You can tell they usually quality ingredients, like their shredded cheese for example. It's not that horrible pre-shredded garbage!! Guacamole is delicious. I could eat a bowl full. Inside, they have amazing fish tacos that are reasonably priced, as well as faaaantastic margaritas! Not only is the food good, it's brought out by the coolest gold toothed waiter Ever. A fantastic little Mexican place with GREAT service and even better food. Always love the fresh salsa & chips, and we got a small queso dip which was RIDICULOUSLY YUMMY. Hubby got 2 standard beef tacos which disappeared in a few minutes. I tried the Hawaiian Quesadilla with chicken, grilled pineapple and a special sauce that was AWESOME.
