This restaurant is the family's go to for Mexican food here in Athens. We order from there about once a month. The food is good, but there is something wrong with the tortilla chips. Are they crispy, yes, are they fresh, I'm not sure. A month ago I thought the chips tasted slightly off and figured it was just that the grease was in need of changing. I didn't think it would be the same today. Unfortunately, same exact taste. It ruins the rest of the meal for me. I love eating my food with the chips. Located in a strip mall and honestly looking a bit run down both inside and outside, but the portions are both good and large. I chose the chile verde and went with the pork. It was very good and the portion was huge. I must also applaud their salsa, both the regular and the spicy green salsa. Both were very good I would definitely dine here again. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Athens. The food is always really good and feels much more authentic than other Mexican restaurants. Their food tends to be on the spicy side, which I am learning to enjoy. My favorite thing to order is the Rico's tacos (Mexican style), which are basically street tacos. I've had the carne asada, chicken, chorizo, and carnitas and they're all great. I also really like the enchiladas verde but be warned- the green sauce is definitely spicy. My boyfriend really enjoys how fluffy their rice is and always gets an extra cheese quesadilla. Definitely would recommend adding this one to your rotation. read more

Always great! Sometimes the wait once you get seated is a little too long but it is always worth it. The prices are great, especially for an area dominated by Las Trojas and their super expensive food and drinks. Margs are about $6 and every day there are drink specials. I recommend the Rico's Tacos, Mexican style, and the Combination Platter because you can make your own platter for $10! Just be aware they are often short staffed and require some time but it's always worth it. read more

Don't let appearances fool you. If I could give this place six stars I would --honestly, I may go change my five star reviews to four so that Fiesta would be my only 5 star joint. Yes, but this place feeds my picky family at least once a week for the price of four happy meals --exaggeration, but seriously, my family of four eats for $20. We happened to stumble on this little place next to Hometown Grocery in Athens. They served my husbands meal exactly like he likes it. The prospect of Mexican food in Athens, Alabama, did not seem promising. The downscale shopping center one block from the elevated railroad tracks also did not augur well. All signs and portents, however, do not predict accurately. The interior was nondescript aside from the parachute-gripping clown dolls hanging from the ceiling fans, presumably to justify the "Fiesta" part of the restaurant name. The menu was large, and the seemingly requisite "Speedy Gonzales" plate available. I opted for a "Chimichanga Loca" that promised the choice of beef or chicken, jalapenos, and chorizo. Spicy? Chorizo? I was down with that! And they delivered, for the most part. The 'guacamole salad' was chopped iceberg with a handful of white cheeze and an unappetizing lump of one-day-past-good guacamole that I left untouched. When I return, I will ask for arroz instead of the unappealing 'salad'. The chimichanga was big and awash in melted cheese. As I cut into it, I was VERY pleasantly surprised. Having eaten in Austin, Harlingen, Houston, Odessa, Midland, Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Galveston, I know good chorizo when I taste it. The biste was nicely cooked with a crunchy edge, the jalapenos were fresh-cut and not pickled, the chorizo frisky with flavor not overwhelmed by the heat. It was LACED with onions, something I would rectify on another visit, but it was darned good Mexican cooking in an area one would not expect in Athens. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and I found the inability of much of the staff to speak English to be somehow reassuring and endearing. Headed to Indiana from The gulf coast and we suddenly had the urge for Mexican. We found this little place in a strip mall. Don't let the outside fool you, this place is amazing! I got the floutas verde and they were the best I've gotten from a restaurant. They cook with a lot of cheese to make it flavorful and creamy. It made all the difference to me, but be warned if you aren't a cheese fan. The rice and beans were so very flavorful which is something a lot of other places miss. I'm a tough critic when it comes to Mexican food, so giving this 4 star rating should carry a little weight. If you're in Athens Alabama and want some zesty Mexican try this place. read more

Every month I check the restaurant health scores on Alabama Department of Public Health website. Any restaurant that gets below a 90 I refuse to eat there. This is the only Mexican restaurant in town that makes the grade (a 94 as of this writing, in case you were wondering). I wanted some fajitas so I went there with my mother and grandmother. The place looked clean but it was a little dark in there. I thought it was okay, but my grandmother's eyes aren't great and she commented on it. The server was very nice and still masked, which a lot of servers aren't anymore. They brought out drinks right away along with some complementary chips and salsa. The food came out fast and it was hot and delicious. The portions were big. I barely got mine down and my mother and grandmother both needed to go boxes. The prices were good too, considering how much food you get. All three of us was about $40 for drinks and everything. I must say their salsa is really good. It's just the perfect amount of spicy. Most Mexican places in town give out tame salsa, to suit folks with delicate tongues I guess! LOL! But this place gives just the right amount of kick. Not blow your mouth out, but enough to put a tingle on your tongue. In other words, this will only burn once. LOL. Anyway, highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for Mexican food. read more

I remember Fiesta always being the spot in high school and I'm not surprised that it's still a local hangout for both county and city school kids. I've never been the biggest fan of this location because it's not very well kept. The lighting is terrible and the decorations are old and dusty. We happen to visit after church on one of the colder days of the winter season. We were sat right in front of the door where customers were often entering/exiting and leaving the door cracked open. My father had to get up multiple times to close the door and avoid the chill. I ordered a small chorizo cheese dip, small guac and a cheese quesadilla. The cheese dip was filled with flavorful chorizo but the guac was terribly under-seasoned. The quesadilla was oily and ended up giving me a headache that took me hours to shake. Our waitress was nice enough but I have a feeling that she had way too many tables at a time. We didn't see her all that much and our glasses were empty more often than not. I'm not the biggest fan of this Fiesta, mostly because I no longer reside in Athens and know there's better choices out there. My wife and I go here atleast once a week. Usually Friday evenings. She seems to like the steak nachos pretty good and I like several items. Fajitas very good. Nachos supreme and taco salads good too. I don't really care for their salsa though. It is very bland to me. But overall, good Mexican at a good price with good service. read more
