Buttermilk pancakes, double smoked bacon and maple syrup.

If popular movie franchises are to be believed (and I see no reason for them not to be), sailors keep great secrets. Georges Head used to be hush-hush Navv base, the kind that turned away anyone without a boater hat and a foot fetish. Its prime territory too, all virgin bush and dramatic cliffs. Nowadays the area is open to the great unwashed, and one of the best reasons to visit is Burnt Orange, a giant Federation-style verandah masquerading as a cafe. On weekdays the place is swarming with Mozman housewives, lunching ladies in linen suits and floppy hats with more money invested in their collective foreheads than I am ever likely to earn in my lifetime. It makes for great eavesdropping, it's all dahlink this and pool-cleaner that. Weekends are pretty packed - make like a native American and get your reservation on. The skinny: Brunch menu - rustic and slightly cottage-y. Location - sweet, son Best dish - Buttermilk pancakes with hickory-smoked bacon and lashings of maple syrup (O thank you lord for this wonderful bounty which we are about to receive . . .)

Relaxing café, million dollar views, great ambience and a place where time slows down. What's not to like? Great place for a first date or to meet your partner's parents for the first time...yeah that's kind of a big jump but hey this place fits the bill. Also a great place to bring guests. Kill some time browsing the retail stores or go for a walk around the park and come back for a coffee/tea/snacks. Maybe you could read a book or people watch, it doesn't matter, all can be done here. Simply pleasant.

A real treasure of a spot located in the Old 1930's Mosman Golf Club in Sydney Harbour Trust at George's Head. This is the place I take overseas guests to WOW them. It's primarily a café and a retail outlet but not in the usual sense of these terms. It's set in stunning bushland with something of a water view out to the harbour from the café. The Federation building has been beautifully renovated and is grand and stately. This is not your quick cup of coffee on a Saturday morning place. This is the place you take your future in-laws to ask them for their daughters hand in marriage. This is the place you take granny for her 70th or the place you take your Mum on Mothers Day. It's a lavender ladies space. So, of course it was first choice for birthday morning tea with friends. Sat under the canopied balcony, the serving of scones was seriously generous. Two massive fruit scones, which were sadly, a little dry but helped along with lashings of butter or jam I hovered them up. In fact I missed lunch that day as a result. A slow wander/waddle around the retail shops after saw us mentally spending a fortune, as we grabbed at far too many gorgeous and/or cute things on display. The kids clothing and toys are beautiful though pricey. A place to take an inheritance perhaps. Café/retail places like this are popular in the UK though rare in Sydney. Wafting around here could easily take all morning...even into the afternoon. Bookings for the café are strongly recommended and essential at weekends. Parking is pay and display but I'd recommending park further away and enjoy the walk to get there.

The gorgeous eye candy that is Burnt Orange.

Everything I love about Sydney; nature, water, relaxed, yummy food & friendly service. Menu covers most bases & seems to tailor yo customer preferences rather than what's trendy (yay for them!). Fresh ingredients & decent serving sizes.

If you don't know this place exists you're sure to miss it. From far it just looks like a rich family's house nestled slightly up hill within the bushes. But for those that know the place, it's called Burnt Orange. It was a hassle to get there and the signage was very vague. There is a small one way carpark before the place (you need to be uber lucky for parking spots to find something here). Drive a little more and there is a much generous car park overlooking the sea. Because it's next to the sea it's quite cold if you sit outside, but then there's not many seatings inside as they used it for selling unique novelties. And because of this reason you have a selection of blankets before you get seated (as a guy I refused to get one and ended shivering for 1.5 hours). Decent selection of food. We got the seafood shepherd's pie and spaghetti. The food got quite cold which was a shame and when the seafood got cold it had a mild seafood taste. Rosemary chips (for those that know me you'll sea bowls of chips quite often) was not what we expected. You see the rosemary but can't taste the flavour - go the tomato sauce life saver!

Lovely place, and fairy reasonable prices. Loved their home made lemonade. My salad was very nice in that it had ample ingredients, but there was too much dressing so it was a bit ruined by the end. Overall though, a very nice experience and my partner and I would go back.

(They also have an 8-hour cold drip should you so desire.) The shop is tiny, but if you're lucky enough to snag a stump you'll be privy to some of the most amusing customer conversations. Hungry? They were whipping up waffles last time I was there. But don't get your tastebuds in too much of a tizzy, it's just waffles, so if that's what you want, consider yourself a winner. If not, well, tough luck. But let's be honest, you're heading here for the coffee because it's undoubtably Manly's best, whether hot or cold. And hey, I'm sure they'll even put the ice cream in there if you ask nicely. Just don't ask for decaf. Or larges.

Waffles with optional chocolate. Because they do it simple, they do it well. The waffles are freshly made as you order. The chocolate is freshly melted Belgian chocolate. The coffee is either their standard blend, or a single origin that rotates every few days - and they are fastidious about how they make it. The actual café is just a hole in the wall with a few boxes & logs that serve as stools. I went with the classic açaí bowl, which was so refreshing. They had run out of one type of berry, and added extra strawberries instead, which I was delighted about as I love strawberries. My sister had a mint coconut bowl, and she loved it as well; and was also surprised by how filling they were! I tried hers as well and the flavors really shined through- very balanced, not overly sweet, and it was real mint, not cheap mint flavoring. Which we had one of these guys here in California

Upon my return visit now Manly is flush with acai bowls and standalone acai bowl places. Bare Naked and Acai Brothers (newly opened) co-exist within 100m of each other. I had seen Bare Naked's beautiful bowls on Instagram and friends' feeds for a while and had been dying to try. Well - they did not disappoint. I came here last Sunday with one of my good friends. It was pretty busy and they had a only a few seats out the front. We managed to snake one end of a four person table and I went to order. My friend got the Naked Bowl and I got the Hippie Bowl. It took as quite a while to decide because the menu is rife with options. There were 8-10 acai bowls, smoothie bowls and more. Plus coffee and kombucha on tap (yassss). The girl at the counter told us it would be about a 15-20 minute wait because of all the take out orders. When the bowls came I was impressed. They were beautiful, full of toppings and a really decent portion for the price. I proceeded to snap a few pics (with the table's strategically placed potted cactus) for my Instagram later. Hipster chic on fleek (is 'on fleek' stlll a thing? Well, whatever...I'm using it ironically anyway...and plus...it rhymes!!). Then we dug in...heaven. I soon found myself knee deep in a blissful acai bowl food coma and my friend and I enjoyed a long conversation with a pleasant British bloke who joined our table later on (he managed to finish his bowl before I did). My tummy was very happy with me for hours later. Bare Naked definitely lives up to the hype and is good value for money, especially when compared with the other acai bowls around these parts. I shall hopefully be back again before I leave and will then continue to salivate over their Instagram posts from afar. Such is life.
