    Chicken roulade and steak frites
    Skylar S.

From the instant we were greeted and sat down at our table, the service was amazing. Never once did I need to ask for a refill on water, it was always refilled for each of us and we weren't rushed into ordering a starter an entree all at once. We started with the burnt end crostini and a couple of drinks. Honestly, we could've left happy at that. It was so delicious. For the entrees we ordered the stuffed chicken & the steak frites. The black pepper hollandaise could easily be the star of the show with both of these, but the dishes stood so well on their own that the sauce pushed it over the edge for an 11/10. To top it off, we had to try the crème brûlée and it couldn't have been better. Everything was better than my (already high) expectation because of the beautifully lit restaurant, well thought out table decor and service. I cannot wait to come visit again! Thank you to our waiter Junior who took great care of us and was thoughtful enough to send us home with an extra crème brûlée because of how much we enjoyed the first & my husband noted for next time that we need to order two!

I would've given a 3.5 if it was possible, but decided to round up because the place is still fairly new. Came here last night with friends. For a Tuesday night they almost had a full house at 6:30pm. We of course made reservations, which I recommend, since there isn't a ton of seating. The whole ambience and decor of the place is real rustic and cozy, definitely has an updated vintage vibe in a sense. The menu offers a nice variety of food and drinks. I noticed a lot of Louisiana style/inspired dishes. We decided to do a family style dinner and ordered a bit of everything to try. I order a Tropical Haze Mocktail, that just tasted like pineapple juice. We started off with the meatballs, the crostini, the goat cheese pear salad, and the soup of the day; which was a shrimp tomato bisque. The meatballs were decent, I'd say a 7/10. It would've been nice for the waitress to tell us there was three to an order so that we could've ordered an extra one, to feed everyone at the table. Most restaurants offer that option. The crostini was a 10/10, however it could be executed differently to cater to people sharing. It came with one huge crostini and honestly it was difficult to cut four ways with a butter knife. Would've been better if it was 3-4 individual crostinis. The salad was ok, 5/10. It sounds delicious and has potential, it was just executed poorly. First off the salad was super dry, barely any of the dressing was present, and the pears should've been served cold vs grilled. It kinda wilted the greens. Andrea's has a similar salad and it's fabulous with the cold pears. The bisque was ok as well. 6/10, the texture was not normal bisque consistency, it was more like tomato puree for meat sauce. The flavor was pretty good, but it honestly would've been better without the shrimp. The tiny shrimp felt like an afterthought. Needed. Side of bread or something. Gave more dip/sauce vibes vs a soup vibe. For entrees we ordered the pappardelle, the red snapper, the beef Wellington, and the surf and turf; along with the sweet potato mash and the Gouda Mac and cheese. The red snapper was the show stopper for everyone at our table. The snapper was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection along with the crispy fingerling potatoes. Everything about this dish was perfect; 10/10! The surf and turf was an 8/10, the shrimp were so tiny, I just feel rock shrimp shouldn't be as a main protein solo, it's better in soups, stews, stir fry's. Would've preferred larger shrimp. The steak was cooked great but there was no seasoning. It definitely needed salt. The beef wellington and pappardelle were everyone's least favorite. The Wellington has potential but the flavors were seriously lacking. Nothing was seasoned, it just tasted like bland beef in a crust; and it was a tad flat. The filling needed more flavor and well as more of it. Could've used a thicker steak. I've had this a several times before, and my favorite was at Hell's Kitchen, that place does it right. None I've ever had were as thin as this one; this one was a 5 4/10. The pappardelle was ruined by an overwhelming taste of Smokey bbq sauce. I love pappardelle and this one was the correct noodles, cooked well, with a Smokey bbq ragu sauce. Was not a traditional short rib pappardelle I'm used to; give it a 3.5/10. We didn't even finish this one. Our friends said they ordered it the first time they came in and it was drastically different taste wise. So maybe they just have inconsistencies with being new. The sweet potato mash was amazing, 10/10; and I definitely liked the Mac and cheese better than your normal lobster Mac n cheeses at most restaurants, 8/10. For dessert we ordered the crème brûlée and the strawberry shortcake. The crème brûlée was amazing, 10/10, and the strawberry shortcake was good as well, normally I'm not a strawberry fan but it was good; 9/10. Our waitress was sweet, but definitely new to waiting tables and was not knowledgeable in the menu; but still did a decent job. Presentation here is very nice, portions are decent to price point. On some dishes, it's great price point wise. Service is decent, our appetizers came out super quick, but our entrees took forever, but there were two large parties that got their food before us, so giving them grace for that. Definitely nice to see a restaurant like this open up here, and I think once they work out inconsistencies and the kinks, they'll do just fine.

This is the best crème brûlée you will ever have. So rich and tasteful.

Honestly I was very surprised how great this experience was. The restaurant itself is done very tastefully and has a great atmosphere. The charcuterie board was fresh and well balanced. The Surf and Turf was cooked perfectly and the sauce was Unique, but in the best way possible. The shrimp and grits had great flavour. The Crème brûlée was literally the best I've ever had, so good. My daughter's Mac and cheese was exactly what you expect and she was very happy (picky eater). It's great to have a local restaurant where the food is at such a high level. Cocktails were also great. Espresso martini was good. A little heavy on the ice from shaking but good. The Old fashioned was great. Our Server Cobra was really friendly and attentive. He made sure we were taken care of throughout and was so patient with my daughter which is greatly appreciated. We will be coming back for sure.

This was nothing short of special. It's not dinner it's an experience. It's stepping out of the bustling street into an atmosphere of elegance. Low light, deep leather benches, exposed brick. The whole staff is immediately at your service, welcoming, suggesting wonderful dishes or cocktails/whiskeys, and are incredible at what they all do. The food is classic steakhouse - the kind you'd wear a jacket and tell your lady, put your dress on I'm taking you out tonight. Every bite is thoughtfully made and presented and incredibly delicious. The bar serves creative cocktails with flair and excellence. This was truly an unexpected magical evening in a small town. Do yourselves a favor and book that reservation asap.

We recently moved to Van Alstyne to be closer to our grown children. They gifted us a night out for our 31st Anniversary present and made reservations at Burnt by J.H. The entire night was fabulous, great service, ambiance and food! We are going to make this our yearly anniversary spot. We will definitely make frequent visits in between to this gem of a restaurant. If I could give Burnt more than 5 stars I definitely would. If you are in the area you need to check it out!

I can't remember the name but yum!!! Soooo smooth!

Date night perfection at Burnt! Had the best night with the hubby at Burnt -- and wow, where do I even start? The service? Impeccable. The vibe? Total date-night goals. I had this dreamy drink that I wish I remembered the name of -- it was kind of like a margarita but make it boujee, and it was dangerously good We started with the burnt crostini (how could we not?), and it was just the right kind of crispy, savory goodness. For dinner, I had the shrimp and grits and let me just say... chef's kiss. The hubby was obsessed with his pork chop and sweet potato mash -- barely a bite left on the plate! And THEN. Just when we thought we were done, we almost didn't order dessert. But we gave in and got the crème brûlée and WOW! Do yourself a favor and order it. Silky, crackly, dreamy deliciousness. Great food, great drinks, great company. Burnt, you've got our hearts (and our stomachs).

Burtn end on a crostini , so so so tender and good!

Words can't describe the incredible experience the you'll experience the moment you walk in the door. The decor, the vibe, the staff, ohhh my the craft drinks, every dish made so amazingly good. They have something for every pallet. With regard to service. Monty is going to amaze you with his attention to detail, Ky will charm you with her knowledge of the menu, item by item by item. She presents food and service like none other. Lastly Cobretty is on top of his game with suggestions and great descriptions. The whole experience is worth a try. A truly North Texas Treasure in Van Alstyne

I'd heard about this place and had it on my list of places to try but I waited too long. EVERYTHING we ate was delicious! Usually I take a to-go bag home, but I couldn't stop eating my food because it was so good. The drinks were great too. The service was excellent. I don't have anything to say that is not good about this place. The ambiance was a whole mood. I can't wait to go back to try something new because the snapper was everything. The chicken roulade was like butter. Please go and patronize this establishment because I don't want it to go away. I'll be back next week!

I've just ordered and they tell me it's another 25-30 minute wait. I'll be back with a review of the food and more details then. I'm back after a total wait of one hour! Let me say,it was worth the wait. If they are still open when you read this,it's worth the trip. I've had this place book marked several years. Opened in 1951, it's the quintessential small town burger stand. I just forgot about it until the other day when I read they're closing. Don't cry,it's because of real estate values. It's no longer economically feasible to make small profits working hard no matter how good the burgers are. The burgers are really good. This place is slammed. I saw two large door dash orders go out and a lot of people that must have ordered online Coming and going. Finally my name was called and I took my piping hot brown paper sack to the hood of my truck. Looking into the sack, loose fry, pull it out, bite it, perfect. Unwrap burger, looks fantastic, bitting into it.... satisfaction! I'm a sucker for small towns but Anna is no more. In only five years the influx of migrants from other states have fueled exponential growth. It's happening everywhere and places like Spurlocks are the victims. It's our loss too,as these quaint old places harbor a lot of history. The kind that built America. Usually the Yelp community competes to be the first to Review a new business. And we were not wrong... We tried the cookies and cream malt, fried Oreos, as shown in the picture, and of course we had to get some fries. All came out piping hot, except for the malts, of course. My kid said it was one of the best malts they have ever had, which is a strong statement because they are ice cream connoisseur lol. Their fries were crinkle cut which just added to the old school feel the fried Oreos were cooked to perfection and exactly what I wanted There is a cute little indoor seating area next to the kitchen, but we didn't take advantage of it because we got our food to go. However, we will definitely be back now that we are locals.

I absolutely loved the bread with cinnamon butter they brought out while we waited for our meals. My husband ordered the Road Kill and really enjoyed it; he said the meat was juicy, well-seasoned, and topped perfectly with sautéed mushrooms, cheese, and onions. My son went with the country-fried sirloin steak and said he liked it, though he didn't finish because he filled up on too much bread beforehand. I ordered the Steakhouse Filet Salad. It was okay, but the filet had a slightly different flavor that was hard to describe and just wasn't my thing. Overall, aside from the initial wait (which we expected and were prepared for), everything moved along smoothly once we were seated, and we were out at a good time. We'd definitely come back again.
