Quicken Tournament Review:…read more Kyle Stanley is the 2017 Quicken Loan Champion. We received an invitation to come watch the tourney & hang out in one of the VIP tents...it was good times. The Par 70 golf course is situated in the middle or amongst Avenel Farm, providing regal views of the residential, equestrian, swimming & tennis amenities. The landscape & upkeep was impressive throughout the golf course & surrounding greenery. The staff inside our tent were extremely hospitable, especially during the interment rain fall as they reset as many times necessary to accommodate everyone. The food & beverages were decent. I even popped my head into the Mad House to look around & the employees on hand were just as friendly. The only negative point of our visit was the interaction with the red shirt staff at the main entrance to the tourney if you did not have a parking pass...we opted to take Uber. Aside from their constant screaming that they work for the Tiger Woods Foundation, they were rude & boisterous to the Courtesy Shuttle Operators & individuals seeking assistance. Other than that, it was an enjoyable & entertaining 1st visit to watch championship golf.

The course keepers do a job that is nothing short of magical, and even in the winters the course is in beautiful shape. Fun walkable layout with mostly accessible holes with a really tough stretch on the back 9. I would say three bad holes: 10, 13, and 17. On 10 and 17, the fairways should be flattened out in my opinion. 13 is brutal for all but the best players. It would be a great par 5... But there are a lot of good holes out here. Good number of risk reward tee shots too. Practice facilities are okay. The range is severely sloped which probably helps protect balls from going right towards the first fairway. Half of the putting green is not very usable. Similar to the one at Whiskey Creek. But unlike Whiskey Creek, you won't see slopes that severe out here. The people who work here know this place has a reputation of slow rounds, which has been true in my experience. On weekends expect 5 hour round. But they go out of their way to be obnoxious about pace. My last experience had two guys in a cart trying to rush a group four separate times. I think they could split up and actually try and spot golf balls to help move things along. Be sure to keep an eye out on the leagues and high school groups going out on weekday afternoons.

The grounds team also decided to water a hole for 15 minutes which prevented us from playing. Happy to see the surrounding community and golfers alike came together to save this little course from both MoCo bureaucrats and greedy developers. For those who care about such things, this course was the original location for Argyle Country Club. ACC moved to its current location in Layhill after the club sold the course to the MoCo government in the late 1940s as plans were made to build the capital beltway (holes 3 & 4 are adjacent to 495 beltway). The original clubhouse did burn down so the current clubhouse is what the county built. Sligo is a 9 hole facility. Very short course and very walkable. I usually play here after work or put on the practice greens when I'm in the area and just wanna get away from things. Pace of play is almost always slow as most golfers who play here aren't very good or are learning the game. Also don't look to post your scores on this course as USGA doesn't have an official slope rating for this course. This is a great little course to learn the game, get a quick 9 in, or practice round. Staff is great, little pro shop is decently stocked (for immediate purposes of playing this course), great little snack bar is ok. Nice selection of beers (bottled, canned, and even a few on tap). Pitchers are also offered (lest they used to be at least). Staff have done a great job in keeping those course running along with Sligo Creek Golf Association (SCGC) and Friends of Sligo Creek to bring the First Tee to the course along with the live music concerts on Fridays (more info on both of those things available else ware...i.e. Google). All in all, support this course. MoCo bureaucrats and developers STAY AWAY!

We did not know what to expect and left with a great workout, fun experience, and my wife, 4 year old daughter, and I all interested in golf. First off, the staff was amazing! Marquis has been golfing since he was 6 and gave us some quick tips that immediately improved our swing. They also had great cocktails and food and we loved having a private room where we could play music, watch the game, and play and learn at our own pace. They have multiple games including a driving range, courses, and a game where you aim at monsters (which our daughter really enjoyed). The staff provided great recommendations on each game. We immediately signed up for a subscription- the prices were really reasonable, hours are accommodating, and we envision going on our own to practice, bringing our daughter (she's been asking to go back), or going with friends. This would also be a lot of fun for corporate events or team building even if you don't golf and we are looking forward to bringing our teams in the near future. Fun, great for many audiences, and an amazing resource for improving your game!
