I have a new appreciation for golfers. The sport of golf is not easy. Truthfully, I just wanted to buy cute golf outfits and shoes but he insisted that I actually learn and not just sit and be pretty. He's a Potomac resident so this place is near his home which is super convenient if I'm with him. The perk. They have a grill. Considering there aren't a lot of restaurants in Potomac, this was nice to know. Love that they have coffee. Staff is always nice. The course was clean and buying balls was easy. I'll be learning how to perfect my stroke thanks to him! Love a man who makes life better. For now, since I don't have anything to compare this to, I give it 5 stars! It does the job. Came for golf, stayed for the snack bar I came to Falls Road Golf Course to play golf -- and the golf is genuinely great. But the food might actually be the best part, and that's thanks to Angela, who is the best. The hot dogs? Best in town. The chicken and tuna salads? Angela makes them fresh every morning, from scratch, with love you can actually taste. The onion rings? Genuinely perfect. And a full meal runs you under ten bucks, which in Potomac feels like a clerical error in my favor. Here's the real scandal: this little snack bar is putting out better food than Congressional Country Club a few miles up the road. You'd think paying those dues for bar food this far below par would have the members storming out in protest -- but somehow not one of them has come out "disgruntled." Frankly, the lack of outrage is the most bipartisan thing to happen in this county all year. Years later they are still doing a great job with the conditions considering it's one of the busiest golf courses in Maryland. Fun walkable layout with mostly accessible holes with a really tough stretch on the back 9. I would say three bad holes: 10, 13, and 17. On 10 and 17, the fairways should be flattened out in my opinion. 13 is brutal for all but the best players. It would be a great par 5... But there are a lot of good holes out here. Good number of risk reward tee shots too. Practice facilities are okay. The range is severely sloped which probably helps protect balls from going right towards the first fairway. Half of the putting green is not very usable. Similar to the one at Whiskey Creek. But unlike Whiskey Creek, you won't see slopes that severe out here. The people who work here know this place has a reputation of slow rounds, which has been true in my experience. On weekends expect 5 hour round. But they go out of their way to be obnoxious about pace. My last experience had two guys in a cart trying to rush a group four separate times. I think they could split up and actually try and spot golf balls to help move things along. Be sure to keep an eye out on the leagues and high school groups going out on weekday afternoons. read more

I just completed the Level 2 (102) adult golf academy course at Falls Road. I completed the 101 and 102 courses here with Certified Coach John Ross. I found the course to be well maintained and the instruction program to be well thought out in how it's delivered. Coach Ross was an exemplary instructor whose enthusiasm for the game is infectious. He looks to spend quality time with each student and does his best to provide feedback to improve the way each individual plays. I highly recommend Coach Ross, this program, and course. read more

My Dad took me here over 20 years ago to play my first time at a golf course. That was a day I'll never forget. Fast forward 20 years, and this golf course is still one of my favorite public MoCo golf course. We reserved our tee time online, paid it at the clubhouse then we are off to go. We walked the 18 holes with pull carts. The first three holes or so you are next to Falls Rd, so if you think you're going to hook it right and over the netting, I would probably not use a driver and use an iron. Don't want to hit cars driving by! The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Make sure to keep pace with the group ahead of you. Kudos to the crew for keeping it in great shape. Not as challenging as RedGate and Needwood, but still a great golf course especially for novices. I did see a lot of high school golf teams here playing as well. read more

Not really sure why there is anything under a four here I crave golf and love nice courses and this course is fantastic. Literally every aspect. This review is for one on one lessons I took with Marquis. I bought a five pack of lessons, and just finished this weekend. I hadn't played in 25 years (and wasn't good previously), before trying to take up the game again with my son. When I finally decided to take lessons, I couldn't hit anything. If I tried to hit 30 shots at the range, about 5 would be decent - the rest would be horrible. I had total shanks and could barely get the ball in the air. Over my lessons with Marquis he changed - my setup - my grip - my swing path - hand position at the top - arms across my chest and right elbow attached to my side - rotating my hips on contact and through the ball Now, I am able to hit probably 70-80 percent good shots at the range. I've hit some shots that I have never hit before, high trajectory 7 , 8 irons - not the loopy line drives I would consider "good" before. Obviously, transitioning this to real play is still tricky - but I have improved exponentially with his help. I would definitely recommend if you are a beginner or just have never taken lessons before and want to improve your ball striking. Now I know what and how to practice. read more

My colleagues and I are frequent customers of the Montgomery County Golf Courses. Earlier this week we called to book a tee time at Falls Road. We SPECIFICALLY requested to book for 9 holes and not 18 to which they happily agreed with no objections. When we arrived however, we were told that you can only book 9 holes the day of and we would have to pay the full price of 18. We had time to play 18 due to later commitments (not to mention given the pace of play the sun would have set before we made the final green). When we returned to the clubhouse we explained the situation and were met with a dead pan response and told that the "system" was down and they can offer us a rain check and no refund. We have no interest in playing that course again, it took 3.5 hours to complete nine holes, we waited at every single hole. The course marshal came by asking how we like the pace of play so often it was clearly ingenuine. The only thing rougher than the greens was the customer service. read more

For the price in the afternoon especially, I love this place. Greens are usually in great shape. You can shoot a low round if your in the zone it's pretty short but still fun and interesting. Instructor Tarah rocks! I spent the last few years playing sporadically - making it around the course on worm burners! In one lesson, Tarah tweaked two things: grip and eye on the back of the ball. OMgoodness. They started going in the air - not everytime, but enough to give me hope! In the second lesson: a better shoulder turn and weight transfer. More balls are going in the air. My bigger drives are back. Third lesson: Pick a target and let 'er rip! Wooo hooo! I shot 91 this week and another 45 on 9 holes! Again, I feel this course was a little overpriced. I say "again" because I was fortunate enough to get another round of golf in a 4 day trip. This, being the second course of the two, left a little to be desired. At $67 for the round, I felt it was overpriced by a good $10-$15. At $50, this course would've been fantastic. The pace of play was ok, but the course seemed like it needed a little yardwork. The first cut was a little too deep, IMO, and I know that sometimes it should be like that, but, this course was very inconsistent, which led me to believe that it wasn't maintained too well. I'd definitely say this place was a local spot since the majority of people playing were walking. I would never go out of my way to play here again, but I'm glad I was able to experience it. If I'm ever in town visiting family again, I'd prefer to play elsewhere since there are a ton of courses in the area, but if I lived there, I might consider this place again. read more

Review is for the driving range only: Came here on a Monday around 3:30pm for a quick sesh with my friend. It was slightly crowded with high schoolers and older folks. There were about 12 -15 spots for the driving range. There were about 6 spots open. The quality of the driving green were ok. Some were worn out and some did not come with driving range tees. In the hour that I was playing, they did not clean up the balls in the range. In addition, the range is numbered to about 200 yards. On one side of the range, it is fenced with a net and the other side there is a hill. I haven't played here at night and don't know how well lit it is. But on the side of the hill there are large lights. Unfortunately, the putting green was closed on this day. The prices for range balls were $10, $12, and $14 for small, medium, and large buckets, respectively. I had trouble with the machine that dispenses the range balls so I went inside the store for some help. The employee here was helpful in addressing the problem I heard with my gold range card. The store has a nice variety of golf merchandise that was definitely overpriced. They also sold cigars here. In the end, we left the range earlier than we expected because it was blazing hot there. There was no shade by the range and we were sweating profusely. I've been to a couple other driving ranges and the prices are about $2 more for the large bucket here. This would be the driving range that I would go to with my friends and family because of the location. However, if I had to choose a driving range disregarding the distance, I would choose to go to the University of Maryland Golf Course. Another one of Montgomery County Golf's fine achievements. A public course in Potomac, which has the look and feel of a country club. And this is even more surprising when you realize they get about 35,000 rounds a year, which is an astonishing number. It's a bit pricey for muni golf - $80 to ride on the weekends and $60 during the week. Sometimes the going can be slow. There are some days when it seems like all of Montgomery County is there - so if you can do it during the week -that might be a better option. read more

Had a great time. The course was easy to find, well kept up, gorgeous, and had nice people working there. Additionally, I recommend the food, particularly the chicken sandwich. Traditional clubhouse food. Great fries, reasonable prices. The only meh thing is the price, particularly for a cart. The price for a cart was the same per person if we each took a cart as opposed to sharing a cart. I recommend checking online for the inexpensive evening prices. read more

I was a bit reluctant to try this course because of all the negative comments about pace of play. However, it is the closest of the Montgomery County Golf (MCG) courses to me, so I gave it a try. I played on a Tuesday at 11am and it was actually quicker than some of the other courses with less than a 4 hour round. Staff were very nice, but the rangers must only be on the weekends, as I did not encounter one. The course is one of the shorter ones in the MCG system, but was in excellent shape and is undulating enough to make it challenging. Great facilities compared to other MCG courses. I had a great time and plan to return often. My only negative comment is that I wished they had more ball washers and water stations. read more

It was more than 90 degrees today. Humidity was close to 100 percent. No working drinking fountain except for the pro shop. Covid. I get it. But what about at least a water or drink cart? What about water bottles on certain holes. Nearly passed out. Here's an idea. Why not charge a Covid dollar, and use the money to make sure there's water bottles on four golf holes? read more

Rude and heavy handed staff. The started was away from his desk and then complained when I walked up to the 1st tee, after the group in front of me hit. He was not polite about, I followed the posted sign (which say wait until the group in front hits before going to the tee). I have golfed at Falls Road a handful of times over the years. Of all the MCG courses, it is the only one with rude and entitled staff. Long ago a course marshal complained about our slow play, even though the group in front of us was still within range of our shots (they really are ridiculous). I only play there when friends insist. I would not recommend going to this course. Needwood has nicer staff, Northwest has a better course, Rattlewood and Little Bennet better views. Falls Road is a big No! read more

First time out this year on the range and wasn't having a very good time of it until a staff member was walking by picking up empty range buckets. Although he likely saw it in my eyes, he asked "how's it going?" When I replied "not too well" as I was trying to figure out this new driver I picked up from my brother. He quickly said let me see you hit a few. 2 swings later, he suggested a slight adjustment and KABOOM I found my groove! Big shout out to Marquis, MCG Academy Instructor who couldn't have been nicer! Nice public course, probably the gem of the Montgomery County-operated courses. Can be expensive and on weekends is notorious for a 6 hour round, way beyond the limits of my patience. If they could just have a reasonable pace of play I'd add another star and maybe two. read more

Today I came into Falls Road today strictly to hit some balls at the range. The large bucket was cheap and I was able to borrow a nice driver for a little. I should've got a medium because today was freezing. I came into the grill area to get some food and was pleasantly surprised by the prices. Much cheaper than any private country club. I got a burger and asked for them to add an egg even though it wasn't a "breakfast sandwich" they did it and it came out amazing. They came with your choice of chips or fries and came with a drink. So I thought it was totally worth the price. I enjoyed myself watching some pregame football on a Huge flat screen. Look at my picture of the burger, it was beautifully made by a girl named Chelsea who was the only grill employee on this cold day at the time. Had a great time at Falls Road today! read more

The golf carts will die on you. When it does, the clubhouse does not have anyone to answer the phone. Then you have to walk carrying your cart bag full of clubs clear across the course. When you eventually get to the parking lot, the sun is down and the dumb guy (Mike Olson, PGA) is locking the parking lot gate. Unfortunately, if you try to tell him about it, he doesn't have the IQ to comprehend the situation. Avoid this course if you use a riding cart and don't normally walk the course. read more

He didn't know how to work the tablet to check people in so he responded by treating people terribly and being shockingly rude - what a simpleton. Falls Road is a nice little course in the Maryland Montgomery County suburbs. With distances from the championship tee of 6200 yards, blues tees 5800 and silver tees 5300 it is a relatively short course that opens up after the first two holes. Playing from the blues, not including the putter, I used pretty much 3 clubs for 90 percent of the round. After your tee shot, most of the holes are a pitching wedge or gap wedge into the greens. Like all Montgomery County Public Courses, Falls Road is in good condition and well maintained from tee to green. The greens look like they are taking a bit of a beating most likely due to all the rain in the area. My goal was to stay below the hole on all my approach shots (sometime at a fault). I found the greens easy to read with minor contours but nothing that prevented a two putt or less. The pace of play mid morning during the weekday was good. I was able to walk 18 in less than 3.5 hours. I found the course challenging at times to walk due to some steep hills but definitely doable! This was my first time playing Falls Road in years. The positives were the pace of play and how well the course is maintained. The negatives are there are no long par 3s and the par 4s are so receptive to the driver that a diversity of club usage is not needed!! If you leave the driver at home or force yourself to leave it in the bag it would make Falls Road more of an interesting course to play. read more

Always in better than average condition, and a joy to walk if you are so inclined. The helpful marshals keep pace of play because unfortunately there are a lot of twice-a-year golfers feeling entitled, and a lot of beginners. The marshals efforts have resulted in an always acceptable pace of play despite this being an eight minute interval, heavily played public course. Considering the number of players on the course you would think that they would have a decent f&b setup, but it takes 15 minutes just to get a hot dog at the turn. I played here on July 4th for the first time, I usually play at Blue Mash, Laytonsville, Hampshire Greens, or Needwood. In comparison to those courses Falls Rd is one of the better courses in MoCo not quite up there with Blue Mash though, which I would consider to be one of the best of the bunch. It was packed on July 4th in the early afternoon, which is understandable. Besides the amount of people on the course, it was still moving at a fairly normal pace. We finished 18 holes in 4.5 - 5 hours. The greens are in good condition as well as the fairways. Even in the intense heat the course was not dry. Water only comes in to play in the back 9 and none of the holes really offer any doglegs or anything super challenging. It is a fairly straightfoward course, but trees do come in to play on some holes in the back 9 if you dont hit a solid shot. The prices were a little expensive in comparison to other courses. But that is due to the location of the course as well. The clubhouse is also very nice and comfortable in comparison to others in the area. They sell cigars in the clubhouse as well which is a plus. Would definetly reccommend this course to others. read more

This place could use a few more stalls as it does get crowded depending on what time of day you come, but overall not bad. As a course it is good it can get very crowded at times, but its a public course and they do the best they can. Price can be a little high. The main reason I am giving it two starts is because of the driving range. They don't have driving range hours posted online. Its unclear when you call to get available operating hours. Finally, why do you have lights at the driving range and not use them. Show som flexibility, when its 75* out maybe you should keep the driving range open past 7pm. read more
