Bretton Woods is a decent golf course that I enjoy coming to play. I haven't experienced club amenities but the members seem enjoyable.

I had my wedding venue at Bretton Woods Recreational Center this past May and it was absolutely beautiful. While planning the wedding, I kept in contact with the event coordinator (clubhouse manager), Kevin, on a regular basis throughout the year. He truly made wedding planning so much easier for me and my husband and he helped us so much during the day of the wedding as well. Kevin made sure we had a plan A and a plan B for the ceremony. Plan A being an outdoor wedding and Plan B being having an indoor wedding if it rained outside. Luckily, we went with Plan A! We had our wedding outside with the view of the gold course, grass, and a lake. My wedding photos look amazing. (In a couple photos there are people golfing in the far background but what do you expect, it's a country club). Food was great also! We had passed appetizers with a full open bar during cocktail hour and then served entrees for dinner with a open half bar. All of my guests enjoyed the food and that the venue and wedding were beautiful. Price for the venue and food was A LOT less than what my family and I expected which was a huge plus for us. All in all, everything was perfect and I'm so glad that I had my wedding at Bretton Woods. read more

This is a beautiful golf course with well maintained greens. The outdoor lounge area is spacious with umbrellas at the tables to provide shade. I participated in a golf tournament here and it was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive! Give this course a try no matter what your skill level. read more

Our wedding day couldn't have been more perfect at Bretton Woods Country Club. Gorgeous venue & great service! Clubhouse manager, Kevin Kozak, is absolutely wonderful, helpful and delightful to work with. I cannot speak highly enough of Kevin and his staff. THE VENUE: The grounds of the venue and golf course are absolutely beautiful for an outdoor wedding. There are two gorgeous backdrops that provide just the perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony. Our ceremony took place under a pair of gorgeous trees and it was absolutely beautiful. Unlike most hotel ballrooms which are boring, simple and lack that extra oomph, the Potomac Ballroom at BWRC offers a different experience for your reception; it has cathedral ceilings, large windows overlooking the golf course, decorative ledges and a fireplace with a mantle. We were SO glad to have found a venue that offered beautiful grounds, spectacular views, and excellent service at a reasonable price. The venue is a little tucked in but accessible to major highways. It is off 495N on River Road (190) and just about 30-35 minutes from the DC/Northern VA area. THE FOOD & SERVICE: We continue to receive several compliments from our guests about how excellent everything was; from the venue, the décor, the service, and the food. We served the semi-boned chicken breast with roasted potatoes and asparagus to our guests for dinner and it was delicious. All in all it was a wonderful experience. My husband and I have nothing but positive things to say about Bretton Woods and manager Kevin Kozak. Please do yourself a favor and make sure you check out this venue when planning your wedding. I wish I was writing this review on better terms. Late 2018 I booked Bretton Woods for my wedding. Our first meeting was with Megan and she was a delight to work with. She was responsive and informative. She was the reason we went with this venue. They were flexible with our option to do outside catering (this has since changed). They worked with us on pricing to have our open bar charged per person as opposed to per consumption (they used to only do per consumption). Few months later I got an email from Megan announcing her departure with the country club and the introduction of Brittany who would be our day-of-coordination. While this was a little scary for me I gave Brittany a chance. Brittany was responsive and worked with us on getting our open bar pricing and setting up another tour with our florist. Fast forward few months later (6 months before my wedding, this is where my review will go south.) I emailed Brittany twice for an updated proposal reflecting the bar price change and go no response. I called Bretton Woods to find out she no longer worked there and to contact Brian, the catering manager). I emailed him, he forwarded my email for Jessica, the new coordinator (we are now 5 months out from my wedding). I asked her to schedule my rehearsal, asked for an updated proposal and offered to attach any necessary emails to get it done, and asked for the max capacity guest count for the space. Within 3 weeks, she told me on 2 different occasions she would get back to me the same day and did not. On the 4th week (4 months out from my wedding), I called Brian to see what was going on and let him know about the lack of responsiveness. He scheduled my rehearsal, answered my questions, and assured me HE would get me an updated proposal by the end of the day. 4 days passed and I got nothing. I wrote both him and Jessica letting them know I was unhappy with how I was being treated and how they were handling business. It wasn't until that email that I got my updated proposal just for it to be completely wrong and I was being charged MORE than double my original service fee. I was fed up as I had given them the proper information several times and I have offered to attach any necessary documentation for my bar services. I called and scheduled a meeting with the general manager (Ed) to ask for my deposit back. We was very nice and very remorseful that I was treated this way and offered to fix my proposal, and while I really appreciated his offer, I no longer feel that this team can smoothly execute my day and would rather not deal with the headache. I'm not sure what's going on at this venue and it really is a shame that this is the service the event and catering team thinks is appropriate. I understand it is a very busy time of year for them but this is no excuse. This is not their first wedding or first event held in the summer. We are really sad to let go of this beautiful venue but a beautiful venue does not make up for an excessive amount of stress and a tremendous day-of-wedding headache. read more

This is the best-priced country club in the area, bar none. It built its reputation as the country club for the IMF, but also accepts members from other international organizations and embassies and consulates. Golf, tennis, soccer fields, and a large pool area are somewhat dispersed on the large premises, buy well worth the trip. The tennis clay courts are among the best in the area. BTW, it was built in the time when black IMF staff members were not welcomed in the segregated Washingtonian country clubs. I would give it 5 stars, but it is just a bit too far away, and I know it will not move closer to me. read more

As far as Country Clubs go this is the best bang for your buck you will get anywhere in the Region. However they don't really call themselves a Country Club - they call themselves a Rec Center and are proud of the difference. Here's what it has: - a fantastic golf course -very long at about 7200 yards, a couple of holes are along the Potomac, although the C&O canal parkland is in the way. From the 17th Tee you can hear Great Falls. I used to think it was the Beltway before somebody put me right - - a fabulous swimming center, with a high diving board that the kids love, ther opening hours are a bit sporadic in June, but it is fantastic in July and August - decent restaurant, with a lovely deck and a view into Virginia -tennis courts, soccer fields, mini-golf and a sadly overgrown frisbee golf set-up Fantastic staff, beautiful grounds, my only qualm is the no-pets policy as the gorunds would be great to walk your dog. That and it's a good 18 mile drive for me to get here. I was a golf member for a couple of years and dropped down to being a swimming member because of the drive, because it is tough to find the time to play a lot of golf with a full time job and 3 kids and because almost every Friday during the season they hold events on the gofl course and even the members cannot play then. I came here on a Sunday for the Costa Rican Independence Day celebration hosted by Asociacion Costa Rica. We had use of the pavilion and picnic area near the tennis court bubble. The grounds were perfectly kept and lovely to look at. There was a playground that was in perfect shape- no broken pieces or rocky surfaces the kids could get hurt on. The restroom building seemed to also serve as the locker room for the tennis courts since there was a large changing area and two showers. The club is humongous. We parked inside of the entrance and had a 10 minute walk to our picnic area. There was a shuttle bus running for those that didn't want to make the trek but I'm not sure if that was provided by the hosts or the club. The club staff directing traffic at the entrance was pleasant and helpful. I'm sure this would be a nice location for parties and weddings, particularly if you're looking for something secluded. read more

DO NOT EVER USE BWRC FOR A EVENT. We did our wedding in 2017. They referred us to a wedding planner on the "APPROVED" vendor list. That Planner stole our 3,000$ and cancelled /quit day after the final payment AND 3 weeks BEFORE Our Wedding. We found out someone at BWRC had a personal relationship with that vendor. The vendor ALSO referred us to DJ, Photographer, etc. that she was making kick backs on. When she quit, she took all those as well. We were left 3 weeks with NOTHING before our wedding. THEN BWRC also did not manage the Tasting correctly. They did NOT have our food to taste when we came. We had to come again. What they did have - was cold. The deserts were missing. Brian even lied claiming they did not do deserts but they did. Then WEDDING DAY. They promised to help do some coordination BUT they did not do much. Biggest Kicker besides referring a theft, con of a planner WAS the BWRCemployees and staff STOLE our wedding decorations, umbrellas when we came back week after / weekend to pick everything. Not sure why they had nothing left we left there BUT it was stolen. BWRC is the WORST place to do an event. read more

On 9/13/14 my wedding reception was held at Bretton Woods from 5 pm to 11 pm. Kevin and his team were phenomenal from beginning of the process to the end. Kevin was very accommodating, answering my emails promptly as well as meeting with my family and I on several occasions. On the day of it was seamless! Kevin even has a schedule of when the sun sets for each day throughout the year (weather permitting of course) for photo ops. What attracted me initially to BW was the grounds; its grounds are immaculate, the ballroom, and even the "basement" area where cocktail hour is held if the weather isn't cooperating, are beautiful and well lit with floor to ceiling windows. Secondly, the price was not over the top and BW is willing to work with you if you have a strict budget. As for the food, it was delicious! My husband and I chose the buffet and we were able to take home leftovers. Overall, based on my wedding experience, I would hold more events at BW. I did not have one complaint nor did any of my guests! My family and friends were extremely pleased with the reception, especially the ones who are bit more particular than others. We have joined BW in january and this is by far the best country club we have been members of so far. Great social events, the golf course is in good condition all year long and the layout is fun yet challenging even for a 6 handicap. I think the club should have bikes for the members to rent and use as the trail along the potomac is so beautiful read more

My family have been members for quite a long time. During that time, we have had many events and dinners at Bretton Woods. Kevin Kozak has done a great job coordinating everything from small dinners, wedding receptions, 70th and 95th birthday parties, golf tournament dinners, etc. All have been done professionally and with the least amount of stress. The staff are accommodating and flexible with menu selection, bar selections, seating arrangements and anything else you need to pull off a successful event. Food quality has been great. Highly recommend crab cakes and filets. The chef and Kevin will work with you to customize a menu that will please the palate and the purse. The ballroom is lovely any time of year with great views of the golf course. In the winter, the fireplace adds a great glow to any event. read more

The Washington Flanders Club has held its annual brunch now twice at Bretton Woods Recreation Center. The WFC is a social club with members stretching in age over three generations with many young families. The picnic area around the tennis courts is the perfect setting for a casual, yet elegant, family style barbecue. Parents were happy to send their youngsters to the safe closed-in playground. Teenagers could play ball, throw a frisbee, fly a kite in the large fields all around. Did I mention the possibility for tennis, biking, skateboarding? One year we were rained out, thanks to a surprise thunderstorm, but the pavillion offered ample shelter to continue the party. It was a pleasure to work with Kevin Kozak, the manager. With humor and flexibility, he helped us stretch our modest budget. We could do our own catering. Only alcoholic beverages had to be provided by BWRC. His helpful staff did all the hard work: setting up, serving, cleaning up. They clearly enjoyed their job and contributed to a relaxed and happy atmosphere. We had our wedding at bretton woods and had a different experience than the others. Initially Kevin was wonderful. He told us we would be given his cell number a week before the wedding in order to keep in touch with urgent matters. He is frequently out of the office so this was a plus to us. Needless to say, we didn't receive it until the day prior. The grounds are pretty, but if the weather is not cooperative then having it indoors is not as attractive. We got lucky and were able to have it on the paved concrete outside. It poured rain 3 days prior to our wedding so there wasn't many people golfing. If there are though, be prepared to have them in your photographs. They are allowed to walk on the sidewalks behind were the bride walks. Also, the changing room is the locker room which is open to members during your event. We had a lot of stuff with us, including 2 wedding dresses, so if there were golfers coming in and out we would've had to move everything to the car which would've been very inconvenient. They lockers they have do not lock. Kevin did not adhere to the schedule so it cost us an extra $150 in overage fees for our photographer. The food is overpriced, but really good. The most discouraging thing is that we were told we would receive all leftovers because we chose to have a buffet. We did not receive them. I guess the staff probably took them home? Kevin refused to offer a discount and since we paid over $45 a person for a BBQ buffet, we were not happy. I was relieved when the lady in the billing department, Mandy, offered to contact the general manager for us. Three weeks later and we haven't heard anything. She contacted me soon after to say she was leaving Bretton Woods. So I would say avoid Bretton Woods unless you are desperate for a venue and if you do have to use them, don't expect superb service. read more
