DR BURNHAM SAVED MY CATS LIFE! We had been out of the house all day and returned around 7pm. I immediately noticed one of my two male tabby's was not acting right. Didn't come to eat, lethargic, and very weak. By this time it's 8:30pm and we made the decision to take him to VCA in Chico as we live in Willows and Dr. Burnham is already closed. (Mind you he is our regular veterinarian). VCA requires $200 upfront deposit, which we paid. They ran labs and it was determined my little guy had bladder blockage. Crystals had built up as a result to eating dry food. Apparently VERY common in male neutered cats. VCA offered 2 services. One was a surgery (which I knew was not required due to quick research) for $2300 and the other was a catheter flush for $650+. Either procedure would've been done and he would've been sent home with us same night. Well I had $400 to work with and that just wasn't going to cut it for this vet and facility. The vet there was very irritated to hear the "we couldn't afford these procedures in full" answer. Luckily, for the $200 we did pay the vet at VCA went ahead sedated him drained his bladder and gave him pain medication while there. We were sent on our way and wished luck with our primary Vet. We arrived at Burnhams office first thing the next morning praying it wouldn't be so expensive and that he would help our kitty. Long story short, my cat was in way worse shape than most cats with this condition and he wouldn't have made it had we not taken him ASAP. Burnham was willing to work with us on payment, preform his catheter flush, and keep him for 3 nights to give fluids and monitor him. All, for HALF THE PRICE of Chico VCA and with much more love and concern for our animal. How many Drs. actually call personally to give updates? I was referred to Dr. Burnhams through some family friends and I couldn't be happier with his service and his office staffs as well. I read some pretty negative reviews on here but I didn't receive anything but excellent service and his prices are way lower than any office I have ever been to! As I waited a patient came in with a very sick cat that had to be put to sleep. They offered cremation services for him at a very very low cost; I paid triple the quoted cost at an office in Woodland. I enrolled in a puppy package that saved me over 60 dollars, I highly recommended the package of you're looking to vaccinate your dog for up to a year. I will definitely been switching my other dogs care over to his office as well. read more

Don't believe all of the negative reviews. They are agenda driven reviews by people I seriously doubt have ever been there. I have been working with him for 35+ years and can't recommend him higher. He can be a bit blunt and to the point, but such is life with a country vet. He looks out for the customer and doesn't recommend tests and services that he thinks are unnecessary and have a reasonable opportunity for a positive outcome. If you can't handle that, go see the big city vet and pay 3x the price and get the upsell. read more

The Burnham Veterinary Clinic moonlights as an animal shelter for animals in Willows. It seems that they only take in strays for county money. The facilities were disgusting, and the staff didn't seem to know anything about the animals they had. We recently adopted 2 dogs from this facility. One was a very large dog but you could count his ribs and backbone without trouble. We were told that he inhaled his food, but he was clearly starving. When we took him to our regular vet we found that he was actually 30lbs underweight for his age and size. He also had a severe yeast infection in both ears. We were told that the other dog got along well with other animals (which we found that not to be true), she attacked our cat twice and our other two dogs several times. We found some of her behaviors troubling around our other animals and our children. After taking her to the vet we found that she had a severe respiratory issue, she vomited 4+ times a day. We tried to give her a more than fair chance to adapt to the change in environment, but with her illness and behavior issues unfortunately we had to put her down. I feel that these animals were not well cared for. I find it very unfortunate that a veterinary clinic caring for strays couldn't have caught some of these issues before a family adopted them. It very distressing to our family to have to put the one dog down. Despite her behavior issues she was sweet without other animals around and we did grow attached to her. I think what makes it worse is that we asked the veterinarian on duty to give them a quick check up before we took them home. Although it wasn't Dr. Burnham, the veterinarian working told us that they were both in excellent health. Based on this experience I have my doubts in the competency of this clinic and it's staff. read more

I noticed my cats foot was swollen and she could not walk on it. I called every vet from willows to Chico and Burnham was the only one who would see and treat him. He is an awesome country vet. I went for a overall health checkup!! The vet Doc said my dog was just Fat and had bad teeth!!(no blood test taken, my bad! I own that) scheduled teeth cleaning and given antibiotics. I take him to cleaning, yea a 8 year old frisky silky haired terrier, anyway after being there all day they call me and say they had to pull some teeth. I asked how many? I was told 4. I said ok! When I go to pick him up I'm told she was mistaken they had to pull 14!!! I was stunned! No one called and asked me if that would be ok!! I had to pay over $600.00!!!and No Pain Meds!!! I noticed something wrong right away but figured he would snap out of it, UNTIL he feel in our pool and almost drowned!!(a pool he always ran around)!! Then I Really started watching him and saw he was running into things. I used my cellphone light and looked at his eyes and saw he no longer had an iris and was BLIND!!! I took him to another Vet who confirmed he was BLIND an stated it was due to lack of oxygen to the brain during his teeth pulling proceedure!!! Also, this Vet took labbs and determined he had VERY enflated Kidney readings!!! This vet put him on Kidney food and meds! He is doing better but will always be blind!!! So basically I paid over $600.00 to make my dog BLIND and another $300.0 to confirm his blindness and find out he had elevated Kidney Levels, more than likely from the proceedure as well!!! SAVE your Dogs and DO NOT take them to Burnhams Vet!! read more

We were traveling when our Corgi had bloody diarrhea and vomit. We were able to take her in. Fortunately she had ate something that made her sick and she was given medicine and were back on the road. Very considerate and supportive doctor and staff. read more

Having horses I greatly appreciate a vet that will drop everything and do an emergency ranch call (I live 40 miles from the clinic). His "old school" type of vet care is what I am very appreciative of, sound, clear direction. He does not veer off into the costly alternatives unless that is what you are looking for. read more

This place is a joke. I brought my dog here after we adopted her from wags and whiskers because they had a contract with them and paid for the first visit. The vet is rude and seriously looks like he belongs in a pub rather than practicing veterinary medicine. Their facility is also disgusting. I barely wanted to walk through there with tennis shoes and can't imagine them performing any surgeries in those conditions. But what really set me off is when I requested records from them (which I'm entitled to per CA law) and the vet himself mocked me. I originally called asking for records and they said they'd send it that afternoon. When I never received them, I called a few days later. They changed their "tune" and said the doctor had to review her chart before they could send me anything. Fine, I thought. I waited a few more days and nothing. Since vets have a timeline in which to respond to records requests, I faxed them a letter making a formal request. Dr. Burnham sent me back a cover sheet basically mocking my "formal" request. It was super tacky, unprofessional and straight up rude. No need to disrespect your clients, especially if you want return customers. There are plenty of good vets in the area. I suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Adopted my lab mix from Burnham. The staff was helpful with as much info as they had. Given he was probably brought in by animal control they couldn't be expected to know a lot. His health was fine and quickly adjusted to a new home. On many occasions have brought him back for health issues and vaccinations. The staff is helpful and gets right to work even when I don't have an appointment. Dr. Burnham is good about explaining the problems, probably causes, and what the treatment will be. Been going there for over 10 years and -very- satisfied. read more
