    big box much?
    Keith K.

This is a sad story. It starts in a sad outdoor mall that must have died when Vancouver Mall opened. There are a lot of big box stores here, Walmart, Target and Burlingtons and some other lesser known stores as well. I decided to wander thru Burlingtons as I had some time to kill and had not been into this chain for a while. Inside it looks like any other discount variety store, altho as a kid I remember them being more about coats. They had clothes, toys, housewares, much of the same stuff that Target (right next door) sells. The only difference? Burlingtons shiny vinyl flooring was missing all the customers. It's always like this too, maybe if I went to one of Burlingtons sales there would be more people, but on this weekend day that I visited, Burlingtons had fewer customers than employees, and right next door, in Target, that's where all the customers were doing their shopping. This is definitely one of those stores that after walking thru it, you may just wonder why it's still in business. With Target so close and selling all the same (only mostly better) stuff at basically the same prices, why would Burlingtons stick around?

Burlington coat factory, Vancouver plaza. Unprofessional and threatening. WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS LOCATION!!!

I walked into Burlington Coat Factory at 10:45 and the "security" lady was extremely unprofessional! She immediately ran towards me, confronting me and talking to me like I was a criminal. Telling me she has the right to kick anybody out of the store after 10:30. I am a loyal Burlington Coat Factory customer! I will cancel my membership with Burlington, if this is who represents them. I will not be coming back to this location! Just a heads up, if it's after 10:30 do not come to this location! Or you will get bombarded by the big security guard lady!

Talk about nostalgia! I was in Washington looking for food recommendations when I was led to Smack…read moreTown. It was only after pulling into the mall that I realized it was inside the food court. Normally I would've tried to find something else, but to be honest, I wasn't mad about it. Surprisingly enough, Oregon's capitol city of Salem is smaller than I'd expected before making the move. There are a couple of what used to be thriving malls that have dwindled down to host small, lesser known businesses. I grew up in the 80s when malls were the social hub and all the rage. Walking inside, I could see the adaptation to today's consumers with remnants of days gone by. Poised right by the entrance is a K-Pop store and adjacent Anime Town. The little kids play area was just as obnoxious as I remember, all screams included. Upstairs was a bungee style trampoline for bigger kids wanting a little more thrill. There was a Hot Wheels vending machine and fresh fruit dessert stand featuring the ever popular Dubai chocolate over strawberries for a mere $18 (ouch!). Perhaps it was the season, but the parking lot was packed. It was nice to see some of the favs of my youth; PacSun, Vans, and Hot Topic, and FYE. There were also some cool shops I'd never heard of. We enjoyed our lunch and had to depart with little time to spend browsing, but I really want to come back. If there was a deterrent to be mentioned, it's the 8+% tax, a significant hit when you're used to zero state tax.

This mall is very busy and has a lot of shopping and dinning options. It should be easy to find…read morewhatever you need in this mall, with all the numerous choices.

I love that I can change my order multiple times up until a few hours before my grocery pick-up time window. I can also create and set up my order a week in advance. You can set up specific substitutions when creating your grocery order. They also notify you of any substitutions prior to your pick-up time so you can approve or reject them prior to pick-up. On occasion I do have some issues with produce items...brown lettuce, gouged fruit or moldy strawberries. When this happens I immediately go to the app and request a refund. It's a quick and painless process and they'll refund you immediately without having to bring the item back to the store. The employees are mostly friendly and helpful. Most load groceries with care. I have had a smashed bread loaf here and there, but mostly no grocery loading issues. They have moved the grocery pick-up area to the opposite side of the store since my last review. It's a much bigger area and has about twice the spots as the other side did. There are plenty of signs at both entrances to help navigate the newer location. I absolutely love using the grocery pick-up option. It has been a welcoming stress-free option for me and my household. I would highly recommend!

Shopping in Vancouver, Washington…read more.. My niece and I were at Vancouver Mall and noticed that JCPenney was one of the tenants. We decided to take a look. JCPenney is not in Honolulu anymore. I have fond childhood memories of my Auntie Alice taking my mom, sisters, and me to lunch at the former Ala Moana location. I also have fond memories of shopping at the Las Vegas location with my Auntie Lily, my mom, and my sister (the mom of my niece). So, with my niece, I feel like we've come full circle and have crossed the generations. I told her how her grandma liked certain brands like Liz Claiborne because of the quality and reasonable prices - especially in the clearance sections! It was a unique experience... like reliving the times that I had with different relatives...

Walking through the door, you are greeted by security guards (that don't offer much "security"...more on that later) and have to go through "gates" to get in the store. I arrived at customer service with one person ahead of me, who had some issues that require one-half hour's worth of conversation. Staff did not call additional help. I finally asked an employee if they could open another register. I kid you not, she said to me, "we don't have enough employees" and sped off. A customer came up to the counter and told a staff member that there was a man in the parking lot who was slumped over his steering wheel with the engine running. She reported it to the "security guard" who told her to go to customer service!! The girl looked at her blankly and went back to helping the other employee. No call to management or 911. She finally overheard us talking and "called someone." And there you have it; the absolute LAST time I will shop in-store at FM. It is just too customer-hostile and dehumanizing. Even Target has started "niceness" training with its employees...like, how to show gratitude for the customers who keep your doors open. Anyway....I'm done.
