Seems rare, such a treat to go somewhere where you're treated well, they call you by your name, even after purchasing I genuinely felt welcomed every time I went in to have the glasses fitted/maintenanced. I don't know if these guys were having a bad day or what, but when I walked in for a new pair of frames, they were snooty. I went in with my gf because she has a small face and wanted a new pair of frames. We didn't go in with a prescription for her, because it was a spur of the moment decision to walk in, since we were there for coffee. But they were not welcoming, practically ignoring us, and not to mention, how do they not have any small frames? It was the attitude that put us off. I enjoy supporting small businesses, especially small businesses carrying independent brands that I typically have to wait until my next trip to NY or Europe to purchase. What I don't enjoy is the unfriendly saleslady. I get it is hard to hire someone to work at a retail eyewear shop in the bay area, but the business must have the owner or work harder to incentivize the salespeople to welcome clientele that will purchase $500+ frames now and in the future. A couple of examples: - Most eyewear shops offer to adjust glasses for free whether you bought them there or not. What better way to build goodwill for customers to come back. Here, the saleslady wanted to charge me and on top of that told me she was not liable if she broke the glasses. Cool... - Walked by and saw the same lady there and she is just sitting there playing with her phone looking entirely disinterested in life in general with a resting *you know what* face that I don't want to engage with. My interactions when the owner has been there was pleasant enough. But if I don't see the owner there, I'm not even going to bother walking in. read more

One of Burlingame's best local businesses! I've got a challenging prescription to fill (progressive lenses with astigmatism), and I've had disappointing results with both LensCrafters and Kaiser. Each time, Stuart and his colleagues at Burlingame Optical got me back on track. They figured out what frames would work best ... the best way to implement the prescription, etc. The result: I get noticeably better vision for both distance and close-up. They've also been terrific in terms of sorting out bent frames, adjusting temples, etc. And the entire team in the store brings a good-natured, can-do attitude to the job. I walked in for a glasses repair and was helped right away by a very nice woman. She said it was a simple fix and that they would do it right then and there. Stuart, who told me that he opened Burlingame Optical over 30 years ago, took his time to fix the problem I came in for, and actually fixed other problems I had with my glasses. When I asked him how much I owed him, he said that it normally costs about $5 for this particular type of repair but that he'd do it for free for me. Outstanding customer service ! I brought in an old pair of prescription glasses that had been flattened by a car but still intact. I had little hope that they could be repaired even for temporary use. With great care and thoroughness, Stuart repaired them so that they are still quite useable.
