The office is clean, modern, and well-organized. The doctors take the time to explain each part of the exam and answer all of my questions. They charged me extra for a service I never received, and their attitude was consistently very dismissive, rude and unreasonable. The quality of the glasses is poor (while it costs more than $300) -- it already has scratches when I received it (see attached photo), while I have not worn it at all. They made a pair of sunglasses in the wrong color. When I pointed it out, they flatly denied it and insisted the color was correct, effectively treating me as if I were color-blind rather than taking responsibility for their error. I end up have to take the mirror off the glass to receive the correct color. Despite this being entirely their fault, they refused to provide any refund or compensation and continued to respond with an extremely dismissive and unprofessional attitude. Don't come. read more

I've been coming here for years and have always had good service from the staff and Dr. Feliciano. Recently I developed glaucoma so I had an appointment with Dr. Dabit. He's an excellent glaucoma specialist and explained in detail the ailment and what to expect. Shortly after my appointment I developed a rather alarming eye floater. Nancy was able to contact Dr. Dabit who squeezed me in at the last minute. Nancy made it clear it was a 5ish o'clock appointment which I appreciated as I could mentally prepare to have to wait (I was actually seen right on time). My mom will eventually be moving to Foster City. She's got a very advanced case of glaucoma and I'm going to highly recommend my mom come to Focus Optometry. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Doris Chang's for years and just wanted to say how much I appreciated her thoroughness and professionalism during my exams. She takes the time to learn about you, your lifestyle, history, and any issues that pertain to your vision and eye health. I learned a lot about my eyes and especially liked being able to view my retinal images and the wellness scans with her explanations of what she looks for during these exams. I have never received a more thorough and engaging eye exam than with her. She is knowledgeable, detailed, and compassionate. You can tell she really cares about her patients and their wellbeing. I have never been in such an unprofessional retail location, such as this one. The staff is just plain arrogant and act as if that you should be honored that they deem to serve you. We have been back at the store on numerous occasions, and my wife has spent thousands of dollars on eyeglasses there, but when when we walked in today, a good half hour before the posted closing time, an obviously ill-trained young woman rolled their eyes and said that the glasses case had been closed for an hour. My wife has been looking for the latest style of Gucci glasses, and when she asked about when they were going to have more styles come in the woman rolled her eyes for the fourth time it said the reps would be in Soon. Not exactly customer service, if you ask me. We also asked why they had a Costco posted time of 2 PM on Saturdays if they locked their glasses displays an hour earlier. They didn't have an answer for that and the only answer they could give us was Well we're telling you now. The young lady sniffly told us that they preferred appointments to come in to look at sunglasses. Not everybody has the time to make appointments. If the door is open and we just want to look at sunglasses, we should be allowed to come in whenever we want to. Not the time they prefer us to come. These people are not eye doctors. They are retail clerks, who are paid to help people look for sunglasses. I would suggest that anybody who wants high-end sunglasses find somebody else to shop with other than this store they don't deserve our patronage. read more

Highly recommend Focus Optometry. I have come to this clinic for 12-13 years. I am very happy and grateful to the care and service provided. Over the years I had worked with 3 doctors there Dr Feliciano, Dr Tran and Dr Chang. They are all excellent doctors with great medical knowledge and patience treating patients. I have very strong myopia prescription and astigmatism, now also presbyopia. Thanks to them I am able to have comfortable contact lenses and multifocal glasses to move on with my days! My recent visit with Dr Doris Chang was just as great as usual. She is thorough, friendly, and excellent in fine tuning my very challenging prescription. She is very compassionate about helping patients. So are Dr Feliciano and Dr Tran. I also appreciate they upgraded and introduced new instruments and devices every few years. Took me in as an emergency patient when my regular optometrist was out of the country and were able to see me the same day. I then came back for my regular prescription appointment. There was an issue with the prescription in one eye (seemed good in office, but then I noticed issues when driving) and they were gracious and quick about getting me back in to adjust the prescription. I made an appointment to look for frames and Sindy went above and beyond to help me out! As someone who had never shopped for glasses, Sindy made me feel comfortable and guided me the entire time. She helped me figure out my frame size, explained to me the recommended brands, and I ended up finding a new pair of stellar glasses. She even helped me check if my selection carried different colors than the frames on floor, and was super transparent with breaking down all the payment options and addons. Terrible experience here. I have been a customer for a long time with them I.e more than 8 years. I would make my regular prescription progressive glasses & frames from them. I have also made sun glasses from them several times. But this time they have totally messed up my prescription order for my glasses. I just wanted a regular pair of progressive glasses and what I got back was pair of glasses that I can only use in front of my computer. That's just useless for me.The associate who worked with me to get my order did not communicate clearly to me that these were just computer work glasses and cannot be worn for regular use. They have a lot of new staff which talks a lot about selling different options for the glasses like anti glare and this coating or that coating but they do a sloppy job of understanding what you really need. I see there is a huge disconnect between the doctor who takes your eye exam and the person who works with you for your glasses. After making second trip to the office they decide to make me new lenses ...progressive this time with no computer thing , after using an extra insurance from my wife's policy as they have exhausted my insurance and now to cover their fault they have misused my wife's insurance benefit. Fast forward three weeks and today when I picked up my new pair of glasses which they fitted into my new frames that I had got earlier, they are still wrong. Images and text look blurry from a distant and I can't read up closely too. What a huge waste of $$$ and time! They never own up and they never think about the customer. It is just making profit at any cost. It has been a nightmare experience to just get another pair of glasses with the same prescription. I will be moving to a new optometrist in foster city as they don't deserve a fourth chance. And if you do want to talk to a manager or the doctor as customer there is nobody ever available as they are all too busy. The doctor Ms Feliciano is apparently too busy in sweet talking to customers for eye exams and finally when the customer gets the wrong order they don't set things right. I feel cheated and deceived. I will take my business elsewhere. Huge waste of money and highly unprofessional staff who work with you for selling the frames and lenses. They are rookies out of college who don't do a good job in explaining things and the customer is then stuck with a wrong pair of lenses which are totally useless and has to work with Insurance firms for sorting all the mess. I would not be going through the hassles of ordering new pair of glasses without doing an eye exam and getting new prescription to ensure my lenses are made right. It is just common sense( which apparently is very hard to expect from you or your team who works there). Your staff had my new prescription with them when I came back again for the same issue. 2. "You also told my staff that the distance was blurry, but at the same time you said that you could see the distant objects. They were somewhat confused by your comments, which made it difficult for them to make recommendations"--- I told them exactly what I was feeling i.e it is only possible for me to see things from the top section of the glasses for long distance and for short distance again the focus is not clear. My friend lost a pair of sunglasses and needed another prescription sunglasses, hence, we came to this establishment to find a new pair of sunglasses for her. As we step into the shop, it was pretty dark as the lighting was not all turned on. This might be because there wasn't anyone in the store beside the employees. Then we started to look at different brands of sunglasses and the employee asked what are we looking for and how she can assist. They do have an ample amount of brand selections and my friend tried on a different style of sunglasses and choose the one she wanted. Overall the experience was quite positive but the employee was not too helpful regarding the styling of the glasses and probably is fairly new as she wasn't really sure about the insurance policies. But everyone starts somewhere and will not hold this against the shop. I would recommend to check it out and if it fit your taste. read more

Been there the past year but just got a rude awakening today. I had asked for my prescription today and the information did not include the PD distance. After getting off the phone with them I was told I'd have to buy a new pair of glasses and schedule an exam to get it. Excuse me? I have a right to my medical record. These folks are simply great. I've been going to them since they opened. I've been checked out by at least three of the docs and they have all done a thorough job. Plus, they were all very pleasant as well. I started wearing glasses when I was two or three (now 63 as of this writing), so I've been to my share of eye doctors. I started going to Focus because my previous eye doctor (who I used for about 25 years) retired. Focus was convenient and they had good hours, so I gave them a try and have not looked back since. Focus Optometry is my best experience for my annual eye examinations and for the very first time, Dr. Feliciano did a through examination on me and she has the latest and greatest machines that provide very detailed information on my conditions. One thing that surprised me upon my first visit was that I didn't need to go through any pupil dilation which makes the eyes extremely sensitive to the sunlight. I have had my eye examinations done at other private optometry practices before I came to Focus Optometry, but Dr. Feliciano explained in more through detail about whats going on with my eyes and what needs to be done. To: Dr. Feliciano/owner If you are reading this review, I would apologize to you that I have no other way but this (yelp) to reach you and express my personal consumer experience with Focus Optometry. Below are my suggestions for all who read my review: a. If you wish to use your current year insurance coverage toward the year end, make sure that you get it "IN WRITING" that the insurance is applied to the year that the staff tells you. Don't let them shock you when you need to use the insurance the following year and find out it is gone. b. If you wish to talk to the business owner, it has to be for "eye exam" only. c. Be aware that the "good" service is only for "selective" individuals because the service/care is biased and prejudiced. FACTS: 1. I tried to make appointment with owner to discuss a mistake that the store staff made and cost me $. But the staff refused to make appointment for me because the appointment can only be for "eye exam". 2, On both Nov 12 2019 (called 1st time) and Nov 13 2019 (called twice), I called and left messages for owner (Dr. Feliciano) to call me back but instead of receiving call, I got a text message, stating "We attempted to return your call last night and tonight. Seems that your phone is not in service. Please contact us tomorrow morning after 10am for options." This is a complete lie because I have been standing by the phone the whole time waiting for the return call from store. My husband and I have been customers of the store for more than 10 years. This store used to be a friendly and pleasant place, but as years gone by, no more friendly staffs and all we got are lies after lies. The store staff lied to us in December 2018 and now the staff lied again for returning calls. I wish the owner can read this review and seriously take care of business as all other business owners will normally do. Hiding and lying is not going to resolve the issues. UPDATE: with response to Owner's response 1. Nancy admitted that she wrote down a wrong phone number and did not look into the patient record to verify the phone number when you or she attempted the return calls and did not go through. Nancy "blamed" me that I provided wrong phone number to her, even though she could have looked it up in your record. Plus she did "text" me successfully on the correct phone to inform me of her attempts. How can you have the wrong number when the number is in your accounting system for more than 10 year? 2. In December 2018, I was told by Nancy and the staff that the lens and frame will be charged to insurance in 2018. It was a total lie/mistake. 3. It is obvious that your staff (Nancy) lied in 2018 because she lied again in 2019 that I "provided wrong number" so you could not reach me. I called 3 times and I left my phone number every time when I left message for you to easily return my call. 4. I wanted to communicate with you directly to make sure there is no miscommunication between Nancy, you and me. Unfortunately, you chose to ignore me too. This makes me wonder: what happens to the kindness and caring people talked about on your 4/5 stars reviews? 5. Your big discount for me will still cost me $300 more than what I need to pay if your staff did not use my 2019 insurance coverage for 2018 purchase. And, you just lost me and my husband as your regular customers, FOREVER. And, you will possibly lose many more customers who read this review and learned about how Nancy and you treated customers. For this, I have NO regret to give you this 1 star review because you CHOOSE to tolerate the mistakes that your staff made (lied) and make NO attempts to apologize. read more

Stay away from this business!! If I could give a negative score I would do that. Not only because they are pricey, but also they have the WORST service I've ever had. I placed the order in 3/2017, and till 7/1/2017, they still couldn't get the glasses ready. THREE and a HALF months!!! I went in in March n purchased Dior frame glasses with $400+ out of pocket cost (I do have very good insurance coverage already). I love the frame so it's ok to pay this much. After that, I just waited too long without getting a call from them. I needed to call in several times to check the status, and was surprised to find they had hard time ordering the frame or just couldn't even find my order.... Finally the glasses was ready AFTER 2 MONTHS, with a WRONG frame! I pointed it out and tried to be polite. They asked me to use the wrong one while they order the correct one and will call me to go in again to switch on its arrival. Ok... After another 2-3 weeks waiting, again, no call no message until I called them, just to find out the correct frame already arrived but they FORGOT to call me back!! I went to the store today, for the 4th time, 20+ minutes driving each time. Three of their staff spent more than 40 minutes trying to replace the lens from the wrong frame and put into the correct one. The lens got dropped out several times. They gave up in the end, asked me to wait another 2-3 weeks for them to get the lens and frame assembled ... This is ridiculous. Are they trained to do this professional job???? !!!! I asked them if they can be sure the problem will be solved after another 2-3 weeks?? They hesitated to say "yes". It's going to be FOUR months, back and forth FIVE times, and still unknown when I can have my glasses. Life is short. Stay away from this business! read more

I've been a client here for a few years, they do my contacts and glasses. The staff is friendly and helpful. The dr is nice and gives me good advice. They have always helped me maximize my insurance coverage, kinda pricey for glasses, but I think the brands they carry are worth it. It takes about 2 weeks for them to get the glasses to you once you've selected the pair you want. I would recommend them. read more

Dr. Feliciano called me after I complained on yelp about my unhappy experience with the contact lens purchase. I was refused to purchase contact lens because my prescription will be expired in a couple of days. The doctor tried to explain that they are adhering to the California law that contact lens can only be provided for one year supply with a valid prescription. For my case, the expiration of my prescription is coming, so with potentially some uncertainty of my eye situation, they will suggest I get a new prescription and then purchase one year supply for my contact lens. I do appreciate her calling, since this proves that she cares about her business and the customers. I gave her credit on it and retract my previous review as well as increase the rating to 3 stars. However, I did check the California law about contact lens. The Act does not require the inclusion of quantity information on the prescription and it leaves some room to allow the patients to adjust the amount to be ordered. I think each store has its own way to conduct the business and justify its choice. Just due to my own experience, I will use other store in the neighborhood for future purchase. read more

They also lied to me saying I can get $80 rebate for the contact lenses I bought from them, but the truth is the rebate is only $20. $60 is not a big deal, but you just lost a customer by not being honest. Last year I had came here to get a prescription for my Kate Spade sunglasses. This place is really inexpensive. For my first year here so far, I've gotten an eye exam and have tested out a few contacts since I've been wanting some for a while now. The owner or the practice is really really sweet and kind. Everyone that works there is really friendly and helpful. They are patient and take the time to help you. They allow you to look and try on different glasses to meet your needs. Melanie is really nice when giving eye exams and check ups. She is very interactive and makes the experience more comfortable. Wow, excellent experience, from the front desk greeting, to the exam, consultation and selection of new frames. Light years ahead of my previous eye doc's office! Dr. Feliciano is wonderful; the exam was thorough and she explained the results carefully and clearly. She has a lovely manner, warm & friendly, and makes sure all your questions are answered. I love that they offer an alternative to having your eyes dialated (test with a special machine that produces an image of the back of your eye). I'd never even heard of this before. Yes, there is an extra cost, but that is clearly explained and patient is given the choice. We were happy with the eyeware selection they offered and both my daughter and I found frames to purchase. The office is spotless, modern and welcoming. Definitely worth driving from Redwood City for us. I can't comment on pricing; we have VSP and I did not price-shop. After my previous experience at a different practice (where they frequently run 45 - 60 mins behind schedule), I am very happy to find a great doc with a well-run practice. Focus optometry charges for every little thing, together these can lead to a heavy bill at the end of an eye exam. In our particular case, my husband had to wait 15 minutes past his appointment start time. Since he would have gotten late to his next appointment, he requested a reschedule, that had a price tag of $45. Next, we were convinced to opt out of eye dilation and opt for an eye picture instead, which costed us $40 each. After coming back home, Google search revealed that people can typically drive even after dilation and the eye picture was not necessary. I was unable to get lenses from them since the laboratory would have taken 3-4 weeks to manufacture those. I therefore requested them to provide me with my pupillary distance measurement (separation between left and right eyes) so that I could get them made elsewhere before my travel, they asked me to pay $25 for that too! I am giving them a 2 star because the Doctor seemed alright. read more

For a guy that's been down in his luck lately, the staff at focus optometry has restored my faith in humanity. I have a very important interview with a dream job tomorrow and without a doubt I have been struck with a pair of broken glasses and no contacts. If you thought this predicament was bad, at the point of purchasing two boxes of contacts I realized my wallet was missing. I retraced my steps and couldn't find it anywhere. On calling focus optometry back, they suggested in giving me a pair of trial pairs so I wouldn't look like an idiot when being interviewed tomorrow with on side of my glasses broken in half. Even though, yeah, the pair they gave me might be the free ones they give out to patients to try out, but the principle of the story is that they cared enough to give a pair to someone that needed help in a situation whom had no other options. This was my first eye exam ever, and I'm happy I decided to come here. Dr. Feliciano was very sweet and walked me through every part of the procedure, and explained everything very clearly. I'm giving them 5 stars because I actually needed to change my frames right after I placed the order. They were able to stop the process and let me change the frames I had previously selected. When I first selected them I was by myself and it was close to closing time so I just picked one, later I showed my family a picture and they told me I should take my time to select the perfect frames for my face since I'll be wearing them for a year (and the ones i picked looked a little big for my face). So it was nice that I was able to come back after to take my time and find the perfect pair. They were really nice about letting me change the order. They also went out of their way to halt the order and let me pick out the frames I wanted so I really appreciated it. In the end I found the perfect frames, and I love my glasses!
