Dr. Yap is the most COMPETENT eye doctor I've seen. I have been to so many optometrists in the Bay Area over the years, to try to get SOFT Contact Lenses. No one was able to get me the right contact lenses fitting. I have very strong astigmatism (but low prescription), which makes it super hard to fit soft contact lenses as they move a lot and would make my vision blurry. I really wanted to be able to wear contact lenses so that I can exercise without my glasses sliding down my face when sweating. Dr. Yap figured it out. I contacted all of my past optometrists and asked them to send her ALL of my files, and all of the notes that were taken, all of the products that were tried, and failed. Like a true scientist, and detective, Dr. Yap studied them all in her own time, and figured out the issue. With just 2 contact lenses sittings/trials, she was able to find the perfect custom built contact lenses for me! With previous optometrists, I had gone through over 5-7 trials (trying for weeks, and waiting for new set to arrive, etc) only to no satisfying results. I am so thankful to have found Dr. Yap (she came highly recommended from a Nextdoor posting, when I was looking for a doctor who can solve a difficult contact lenses case). I wish I had found Dr. Yap, 20 years ago.... I would have probably been more fit today, if I was able to practice more sports! read more

Fantastic place to get your eye checks!!!! Dr. Yap is very attentive and caring when dealing with her patients. I had a troubling, complicated stye which was so stubborn it wouldn't go away for 3 weeks. Dr. Yap took deligent notes, explained my symptoms in lame terms and what to expect during the treatment/recovery phase. Most of all, she took the extra effort to schedule me in rushly because of my dire complaints about the stye and guided mt next steps. So, thank you! Dr Yap was the first doctor to figure out that I was using my eyes independently--my left eye for reading, my right eye for distance. NO OTHER OPTOMETRIST FIGURED THIS OUT IN MY LIFE! No wonder I was having such trouble getting a good fit. I would always go in for an eye exam, walk away with the glasses later on, and after a couple of weeks not being able to see right and hearing "just give it some time for your eyes to get used to them" I would give up, throw the new glasses in a pile and continue to use the older pair I had tried to replace. What a mess. The office is wonderful, Mike is great, and Dr. Yap couldn't be nicer. I hope she stays at this location for a long time. read more

Dr. Yap is excellent. She is very thorough in her examination and assessments. I recently found out that I have dry eyes (probably all that time spent in front of a computer screen not blinking...BLINK!!!) and she offered samples of different products to try. She is very hands-on and will call you directly if there are any changes or updates. Love her facility (plenty of parking as it's in a shopping square) and the high quality care she gives to her patients. Highly recommend!! read more

Dr. Faye Yap is awesome. I'm glad I found someone that is in the Belmont area and is a top notch professional at what she does. I tried on a variation of lenses and wasn't quite correct due to my personal preference. I had 20-15 vision before needing Rx and dreaded presbyopia. So I wanted to get as much of that detail back and we painstakingly found an acceptable combination of Rx and brand. She also has a good selection of frames and my eyes thank her for patience and attention to detail. Fan for life! read more

I came to Dr. Yap because I didn't feel like my current optometrist didn't care about treating me. After seeing Dr. Yap, she gave me a different prescription than was given to me a week prior (from a different doctor) and I can see way better! She said with my lenses my vision is better than 20/20. She is very thorough, and explains what she is doing as the appointment goes on. She is very smart and educates her patients as well. I originally started seeing Dr. Yap years ago when my insurance stopped covering my previous optician. She takes a wide variety of insurance, and was conveniently located for me as well. Well, I was so happy with the personal, thorough, caring service I have received from Dr. Yap that even once my insurance changed again so I could go back, I stayed there. And had my wife go there too. I won't go into details to retain some privacy, but on eye topic after eye topic she has raised concerns when appropriate, offered solutions, and went above and beyond in her care for them. The first pair of glasses ended up not looking ideal and Dr Yap had no problems helping me find the right one on another try, and return the first pair. I'm very happy with my glasses. I've finally found my go-to eye doctor with ModernEyes Optometry. Dr. Yap was very thorough during my eye exam last year. She spent a lot of time finding the right glasses and contact lens prescription for me since my old prescription wasn't strong enough yet I get dizzy easily so it was a "delicate" balance. Dr. Yap is also very knowledgeable about different glasses brands and their fit so she recommended a few to order in for me to try when I couldn't quite find one I liked and that fit well in the office (which had a nice selection already). I was able to go through the website with her and pick a few of the styles I liked. I really appreciate her patience in helping me find the perfect glasses instead of going with one already there and ushering me out. I also didn't feel any pressure to get anything I didn't need, whether it be add-ons/upgrades for the glasses or additional exams/scans/images. She also didn't bat an eye when I asked how much contact lenses would be through the office so I could compare with online prices (I have gotten dirty looks before at a more salesy optometrist). My husband and I saw Dr. Yap and her staff earlier today and left feeling like we had a 5 star treatment. We both received a thorough exam (first real eye exam I have ever had, and am thankful I got it as I discovered I am astigmatic and had no idea) and bought glasses as well as shades. Dr. Yap took great care of us from our visit to the selection of glasses (which took a while, and she and her staff were super patient). I can't believe I didn't write this review yet.... Good thing I just ordered more contacts from Dr. Yap! I came here for the first time early in 2015. I badly needed a new contact prescription. Unlike other establishments, Dr. Yap answers her own phone and can help you out right away! She set me up with a convenient appointment and was nothing but kind and friendly at my appointment. When I needed to get new contacts, she helped me pick out the best ones and even remembered me when I called to reorder. This location can be hard to miss if you're zooming down El Camino and not looking, but there is ample parking and convenient hours for those of us who work Monday-Friday. read more

It was my first time coming to Dr. Yap and she was extremely knowledgable and thorough during my exam. Making an appointment with her was really easy and the receptionist was willing to work with my schedule. The office itself is clean, welcoming and quiet (at least on a Saturday). The only thing was the selection of eye glasses was not as extensive as a LensCrafters but still had a nice selection. Parking is easy since it is in a little shopping center. I am so glad to have found Faye Yap and Modern Eyes Optometry. I have had a lot of issues finding an optometrist who can correctly prescribe contacts and glasses for me to use in a range of scenarios. She spent a lot of time working with my request to create a set of contacts and glasses that would allow me to work as a designer throughout the day using contacts - while looking at very near work on my computer screens and on monitors in meeting rooms - and then use glasses tossed over them for driving home. Then she created another contact prescription for when I am riding my road bike (near to far). I found her patient and kind, and the resulting contacts to be fantastic. Dr. Yap is terrific. I have been seeing her for a few years. She is extremely competent, professional, and patient. She treated me really well and answered all my questions. She even found my BRAIN TUMOR during my eyes exam. That is how much she attention to detail. The prescription is as good as the amount of attention optometrist pay to the patient.
