I'm disappointed in the poor service. My new glasses are still not in after 3 months. i never get any updates from Parkside. So when I call they keep telling me the same thing, that my glasses will arrive in about 2 weeks. So that means they really are not checking anything. Just keep repeating their standard line. But now it has been over 3 months and still no glasses. I'm wearing 4 year old glasses now and can hardly see out of them. Very frustrating. read more

Dr Wong is not only very welcoming but also very smart. I went in because my eye had been bothering me and was red and I figured I should see someone instead of listening to Dr. Google. They were able to squeeze me in the following day. Even though I wasn't there for a glasses fitting I did have my outdated glasses and doing the vision screen Dr Wong was able to quickly pull an extra lens from his drawer that made my vision crystal clear. But anyways - I told him my self diagnosis and he didn't dismiss me, but rather work with my diagnosis and explain that why it may seem like that diagnosis but isn't. He was able to then find thee cause of my pain and within 24 hours I was improving more than i had over the last 4 days. Dr Wong is a little quirky but his heart is worn on his sleeve and his experience speaks in his capability. Would definitely recommend Dr. Wong. read more

When I picked up our regular frame, I also brought a pair of sun glass that was missing a screw. Not expecting much, I still brought it just in case... Dr Wong's staff went out of the way to help me. The missing screw was of an odd size, they ended up spending over 20 minutes to locate the right screw. On top of that, Dr Wong also helped to just my sun glass - something that he didn't have anything to do with! This little episode spoke plenty about the kind of customer service in Parkside Optometry. My dad was the one who went through the vision check up. I went as a driver/interpreter. Dr. Wong is the best. He really cares for his patients and takes his time to explain everything thoroughly. My whole family (myself, husband and 2 kids) go to him and he's great with the kids also. I once had an emergency and he was kind enough to meet us at his office with zero notice on a Saturday night. Dr Wong is one of the best optometrists that I've ever been to. He is super friendly and takes his time with you during the exam. He answers all your questions and even shares interesting stories while listening to your own experiences. He seems to be well versed in the latest trends and tools in the industry while also being able to use his old school knowledge and experience. Dr. Wong moved here several years ago from Laurelwood Optometry. I've been seeing him since I was 14, with the exception two years ago when I lived in SF for a little bit and I couldn't come down on weekdays anymore. That was a mistake since things didn't end up that well at the other optometry office I went to instead. Needless to say, I totally trust Dr. Wong to give me his honest opinion and more importantly, give me the correct prescription and explain why he won't or why he wants to change my prescription. Also, I had a scare on Saturday, and he met me at his office with very little notice after 8:30pm that night. He truly cares about his patients. If you live in the Peninsula or are willing to drive to San Mateo if you live in SF, then I highly suggest you see Dr. Wong for an optometrist that's honest, friendly, cares, and won't put any sales pressure on you. read more

It's not easy to find good care and quality people these days, but after years of going to different docs, Dr. Wong will be my go-to guy. I can tell he genuinely cares about his patients & his profession. He went above & beyond answering all of my questions (trust me, I always have a TON) thoroughly, even if I sounded repetitive, & explained in different ways (brought out a whiteboard!) to make sure I fully understood (both simple & technical explanations). Dr. Walter Wong and his assistant Deserae are super considerate, enthusiastic, and helpful people. I've always had ultra-sensitive eyes and problems wearing contact lenses, and it wasn't until I received very patient, proper coaching from Dr. Wong that I was able to finally figure out a way to less painfully get contacts into my eyes. He dedicated at least 30 minutes to talking me through the proper way and care on using contacts. I also wanted to try *colored* contact lenses, and he let me try the full range of all the colors that I wanted. This probably took over an hour total, since I was so picky. Deserae was also a great assistant with my itemized FSA issues and scheduling of my appointments. Lastly, Dr. Wong figured out why my eyes were so easily dry and irritated. It turns out that I didn't fully close my eyes when sleeping, and my eyes were getting dried out. I also only blinked halfway, and not completely. This information rocked my world. Now I have to get an eye sleep mask. I highly, highly recommend this place, especially if you have always been hesitant to try contact lenses! read more

I'm 45 and have never worn glasses but in the last year have started to need glasses to read. After purchasing some off the shelf readers I decided it would be best I had a formal eye exam and chose Parkside as it was in my vision insurance network (VSP) and the office was close to my house. The optometry clinic is in a strip mall which sometimes makes me a bit skeptical but the service and quality of work was exceptional. I was able to get a same day appt and both the receptionist and the doctor were extremely pleasant. Given this was my first eye exam ever I did not know what to expect and I have to say the examination process is quite evolved from what I expected. The exam was very thorough using the latest diagnostic equipment and throughout the process the doctor was fantastic about explaining each step along the way. The exam itself was about an hour and never felt rushed. With the diagnosis complete she recommended a set of reader glasses that were perfect for my job situation and offered to have me try on some sample frames but no pressure to purchase. In fact she recommended I hold off and come back later with my wife to help with the style selection. Very impressed. I'm sorry I waited this long to get the exam. read more

Switched over to Parkside Optometry last year and SO glad I did. No pressure sales. The last optometry place wouldn't write up my prescription, holding it hostage to make a sale which totally turned me off. Dr. Wong isn't pushy. He's quite a hoot to talk to as a matter of fact. Very friendly and quick to hand over my eye prescription. I found his opinions honest, insightful and practical. I didn't expect to be impressed by his optometry knowledge, but I was. I have been looking for a new optometrist for awhile because I have been looking into getting contacts but have been pretty hesitant. I looked on Yelp and came across Dr. Wong and his team. I called and the receptionist was extremely helpful and was even able to squeeze me in very last minute. When I got to the office I was immediately seen and helped. Both of the women working there were really nice and made me feel at ease the whole time. Dr. Wong explained everything very thoroughly to me to make sure that I felt contacts were a good choice for me. After that, he trained me how to put them in and take them out. I work nearby and after about 10+ years, I wanted to get contacts and to start, I had to get an eye exam. Came in during my lunch hour for the eye exam and shortly found out that Dr. Wong knows what he is doing as he discovered that I may possibly have retinal detachment during a routine eye exam of dilating my eyes and checking the pressure. This is standard procedure in all my eye exams, but he saw something that didn't seem right and asked if he can do further exam. Of course it's my eyes and if it's a concern, hell yeah please do more testing! After taking photos of my eyes, he showed me the problem where one eye had a hole that confirmed retinal detachment. A problem here was that he had no baseline to say if it's progressively worse or not, because no eye doctor had ever mentioned this to me as he said that they could've thought I'm close to having glaucoma, which my previous eye doctors did say. Because Mr. Wong took additional steps to check, he discovered the problem with my eyes, so he won't know if it's progressively getting worse until my next eye exam, which would be another year. His attention to detail in a normal routine eye checkup is what led to this discovery and I'm glad he did, because who the hell wants to be blind? This is the reason why I give him 5 stars, because he found something that I believe my previous 2 eye doctors should've found, but instead said that I am close to having glaucoma. There are only 2 possibilities that caused this: 1) I was born with the enlarge hole in my eye or 2) I had an eye injury, which I did when I was in my teens (almost 3 decades ago, so yes I'm old!), so this must've been the cause meaning I must've had this almost 30 years ago. Go see Dr. Wong because he pays close attention to details and takes precautionary measures to ensure your eyes are good where my previous 2 eye doctors most likely failed to find. read more
