My Gucci glasses repaired by Rey! (Missing screw on right hinge)
    Danna E.

If personalized experience and easy parking are your top priorities in eye care services, look no further. Get Your Fix Optics has it all. The sales associate at the Valley Fair Mall had suggested a consultation could result in the shipment of my sunglasses back to Italy for repair. I couldn't bare the thought of separating from my favorite Gucci's for 4-8 weeks for a missing screw. (designer sunglass I've owned since 2007). With my urgency for a second opinion, a colleague of mine had recommended this location to me for their expertise and customer service at Get Your Fix Optics in San Mateo. I met Grace at the front desk and she greeted me with a smile and while I spoke, she had eyes that glistened like the bright energy the shop gave. My entire interaction with Grace and her husband Rey, the genuine feeling of wanting to help me was present. They even said if they could fix it on the spot, the service would be of no charge (which turned out to be!) I also had the pleasure of speaking with Rey; his introduction as a business owner and goals for running the shop in a prime location explained how he caters to everyone's eye wear needs. It's an easy travel and your GPS can guide you to this shop. It's located inside a commercial building on the first floor with signs to guide you. A very safe location as its next to residential homes and other businesses like dental, law firms and brokers. From Borel Ave, traveling away from El Camino Real, make a left on Borel Place and on your immediate right hand side is the front of the office building, 1650 Borel Place. You can park on the street, a long side the building or enter the parking lot on the side of the building. Apparently they take appointments, but if you walk in and it's not busy, you may be able to get assistance on the spot. Perhaps I walked in the right time last Saturday, mid-morning. I also noticed right away that this Get Your Fix Optics is extremely clean and organized. A very inviting lounge area with coordinated modern lounge chairs, wall art and flat screen TV. And not to mention the clean laminate flooring and brightly lit rows of show room glasses on the opposite side of the lounge area. This location is a hidden gem! Thank you, Rey and Grace! Don't miss out on exceptional service and experience in a mom and pop's shop. Call first or stop by Get Your Fix Optics when you're in the area!

Off-White Virgil sunglasses and Ray Pautin business card for "Get Your Fix Optics".

Got told by sunglass hut that they couldn't repair my off-white sunglasses by Virgil Abloh. Found "Get Your Fix Optics" on Google and met Ray an Optician Artisan who was able to adjust my sunglasses at no cost! Extremely satisfied with his work ethic and craftsmanship! Repaired my sunglasses in 10min and didn't charge me a repair fee. My sunglasses unfortunately fell face first and resulted in the left arm being misaligned, but was corrected by Ray at GYF in no time! Learned that he offers a wide range of sunglasses brands from causal to designer luxury. Will be back to purchase my next pair of sunnies soon! Thanks Ray and I hope you pay him a visit, worth the trip!!!

After my initial visit over 2 years ago, my wife accidentally stepped on her glasses causing the spring on one of the bows to be broken. After initially going to our family optometrist who by the way is great and has some senior employees who know to adjust and repair one's glasses they unfortunately were not able to fix the issue and referred her to Rey who I remembered did a fantastic job of adding nose pads to my sunglasses that did not have that feature. Located in a nondescript office building in San Mateo, he was able to fix the issue as he had the proper tools and items needed. In and out within 10 minutes. Great service and offered to pay for the materials and his response was a handshake from me. On an updated note, his office is unlike any that I have ever been too with a cool vibe and bussin displays of high end frames that one would not normally see (think $500 -$2300) at a typical optometrist shop. He also has altered his business model as he now has a Doctor of Optometry who works in the same office with him.

The inside is a compact store, housing many frames for rx lenses as well as ready to be worn sunglasses. I was lucky enough to have the owner/shopkeeper, Randa, help me. She pulled tons and tons of frames for me to try. Ultimately I did find one and she offered to hold them for me for up to a week with one courtesy call. They were fully rimmed and I elsewhere found a pair and brand that worked better. Randa was super kind and helpful, what I especially appreciated is her down to earth vibe and attitude. It's conveniently located in downtown SM and parking can be tough, especially during peak hours. They bill themselves as 'reasonably priced,' and though I'm not sure if that's the case, the customer service I got here was outstanding and the selection was vast. I guess they do offer more reasonably priced ones compared to super expensive designer frames. We did have a bit of confusion and misunderstanding about my wanting only polarized sunglasses, and her showing me three frames, which upon her checking more closely, finding that they were not polarized. But I did appreciate her honesty and checking for me.

This female-ran business really has it all--the staff is kind and knowledgeable, the place is clean and well decorated, and Dr. Surh is a master of her craft. Not only was she able to quickly get my prescription updated (and answer any and all questions about my eye health), she was equally great at helping me ease my way into contact lenses. Past optometrists have been reluctant to get me onto contacts because of my astigmatism, but Dr. Surh was flexible and gave me plenty of options (with follow-ups) until I found the perfect lenses. Overall, a great and painless place to keep your eye health in check. And while I haven't purchased frames from them directly I can attest to their wide and stylish selection. So happy to have found this gem!

UPDATE: After all that, I decided I'd had enough and told them I was moving on to another provider…read more You'd think that would be the end of the story. It was not. When I booked with the new place, I was informed my exam wouldn't be covered by insurance -- because my old provider had submitted a pre-authorization request and never cancelled it. The new office couldn't clear it themselves; only the original provider could release it. So, one more email, back into the void. I asked them directly: did your office request a pre-authorization on my behalf? They didn't actually admit to that -- instead they just said they'd cleared it, so the new office should be able to pull it now. Should. Great. Let's recap: I never had a confirmed appointment with them, by their own account, and yet somehow they'd found the time to file paperwork with my insurance company that then sat there blocking me from being seen anywhere else. No apology for that part. Almost impressive, honestly, in a "how did you manage to mess up two entirely separate processes in service of one appointment" kind of way. It also took one final round-trip with them before I could actually move on -- fitting, since the whole saga has had the vibes of a messy college breakup: the drawn-out final logistics, the ex who's still holding onto your hoodie. Small detail while I'm here: their emails are often signed "Thanks, Ideal Eyes Team," versus the name of a human. After enough of these exchanges, you start to wonder if there's a person back there at all, or just a very polite AI fielding damage control. On the bright side: I went to the new provider yesterday, and it was like stepping into a different world entirely. Professional, communicative, and nobody made me forward an email to prove anything. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Alas, the love is gone…read more My first pair of Warby Parker glasses were sunglasses, the day after my LASIK surgery in 2019 in Seattle. I loved them. I lost them. They discontinued them. I bought my second pair of Warby Parkers on vacation on Venice Beach in 2021 (featured in my profile pic!). They were called the Sonia, and black. I loved them. I lost them. They discontinued the black ones. WHY? I bought another color of Sonia, but I don't love them. My next were a pair of reading glasses. I have no idea why the frames were recommended to me. They were very unflattering. I donated them. Next, purchased in 2023 in Burlingame, were my favorite glasses of ALL TIME. Aja in Confetti Tortoise. I had Irlen lenses placed in them. My Irlen color is light pink and they looked AMAZING. I lost them two years later (heartbreak!!) AND THEY ARE DISCONTINUED. This is how much people love these glasses - people are selling them on Etsy and Ebay for $500 to 600. Why on earth would they discontinue them? But this next story is the cherry on the cake. I have ADHD which is why I lose glasses so often. That's on me. But this, this story drives me crazy. In 2025 I paid $$$ for an exam and expensive lenses for reading and computer work. These are $500 lenses that I will have to live with for years, so comfort matters. They told me the lab had already started making the lenses and the order could not be changed, this was less than 24 hours, maybe they move too fast and should consider a 24 hour time gap to allow to customer changes, which probably happens many times. They did offer to cancel the order and gave me a full refund, which I appreciate, and the representative was knowledgeable and helped me pick the right type of lenses. This is why I gave them 3 stars instead of 1. What I do not understand is why they refused to place a new order for the corrected lens size when I was ready to reorder immediately. Instead, they simply cancelled the order and sent me on my way. In other words, they would rather lose the sale than work with a customer who is trying to correct something reasonable less than 24 hours after placing a $500 order. That kind of inflexibility is not what I expect from a business that claims to provide personalized optical service. I will never go to them again.
