Stopped in to find sunglasses that fit my face, I'd been having a heck of a time getting petite ones given I usually had worn children's frames for eyeglasses. The inside is a compact store, housing many frames for rx lenses as well as ready to be worn sunglasses. I was lucky enough to have the owner/shopkeeper, Randa, help me. She pulled tons and tons of frames for me to try. Ultimately I did find one and she offered to hold them for me for up to a week with one courtesy call. They were fully rimmed and I elsewhere found a pair and brand that worked better. Randa was super kind and helpful, what I especially appreciated is her down to earth vibe and attitude. It's conveniently located in downtown SM and parking can be tough, especially during peak hours. They bill themselves as 'reasonably priced,' and though I'm not sure if that's the case, the customer service I got here was outstanding and the selection was vast. I guess they do offer more reasonably priced ones compared to super expensive designer frames. We did have a bit of confusion and misunderstanding about my wanting only polarized sunglasses, and her showing me three frames, which upon her checking more closely, finding that they were not polarized. But I did appreciate her honesty and checking for me. read more

I highly recommend Just For Optical in downtown San Mateo. They carry a wide variety of styles and brands of glasses at reasonable prices. I have been a customer since 2019 and Randa, the owner, has helped me find glasses that I like and also fit me well. Randa is always patient while I make my selection and I never feel pressured into a purchase. She is also available on a drop-by basis for minor repairs (such as nose pads) or adjustments. Awesome. This is a "thank you Yelp" because I might not have come here otherwise. Randa is super nice and knows her inventory inside out. She picked out a number of frames that were "in the ballpark" for me. I really like that she carries several lines that aren't part of the "usual" rotation that most eye wear places have. So as a result there was more than one pair of glasses that could have worked for me. [As an aside: The Italian company Luxottica has a monopoly thing going where they own most of the eyeware supply chain. This is why glasses are so expensive in many countries, and shockingly less expensive when you go somewhere like Japan where Luxottica has less reach. It's also why you see the same lines, over and over, in most places. It's all Luxottica. If you can get away from the Luxottica monopoly, a new world opens up.] My glasses were done within a few days, quality of the lenses and frames looks great. And I'm very happy with them. One note; I ordered my last pair of glasses online from Coastal.com. They were cheap, a bit ugly, but worked OK. What I didn't realize is that the material used for the lenses itself was "plastic" as opposed to the better quality poly-carbonate I got from Randa. I'm not totally up on the technologies but it's interesting to find out what the differences are. read more

THE VERY BEST SERVICE EVER!!! I I needed disposable contact lenses for a trip out of the country, and after many delays with my Dr getting me the prescription, I had only 2 days left to buy them. Thank you very much, Randa. I recently rolled over my glasses and totally bent them out of shape. I bought them from J.C. Penney's optometry department and they have since closed. I brought them in to Just for Optical and asked Randa if she could straighten them out. She did just that and did a fabulous job. She did it for no charge and then she also adjusted my Rayban prescription sunglasses that have been so stretched out for years. JC Penney told me they could not tighten them any more. I asked Randa about it and she said she could reshape them. She said that she had to remove the lenses which requires particular equipment/tools and then was able to reshape and tighten them. Less than 5 minutes later it was done and she would not charge me anything for doing so. Then I told her I recently separated from my husband with whom I worked and was currently unemployed and how very grateful I am for her help. I will definitely come back when I need new glasses. read more
