I've been going to this office for two years and have seen both Dr Wong and their new doctor, Dr Herzig! It was great meeting the new doctor! Both are great, very thorough and very friendly. My ophthalmologist and optician retired this year and my cats messed up my glasses. I needed to find someone that would adjust my glasses without me being a client. I looked up nearby opticians and found Claremont Optimetry. I drove over and they asked, "how can we help you?" - three personable women ready to help. I explained my situation and they said they would attempt to fix my glasses (cats knocked them off of my nightstand, then my phone, which landed on top of my glasses I guess because an arm was bent) - they said it might snap but I said I can't wear them as is so go for it. One woman worked on them for a few minutes and had me try them in - they felt good but she said she wanted them better - she spent another minute on them performing her magic and put them back on me - perfection! I can see again! I was so grateful. They didn't even charge me. Guess who found her new optometry office?? Me! See you in January, when I qualify for an appointment and new glasses! Both hubby and I were in need of new prescription glasses, we had been putting it off due to Covid concerns. Finally made back to back appointments with Carlmont Optometry a few weeks ago, we were so pleased with the experience and very happy with our new glasses. The office was bright and clean, Dr. Elena and her staff were obviously very health and safety conscious, they were all wearing masks, cleaning hands, frequently spraying and wiping the equipment and after every use. Dr. Elena was so pleasant, very patient and detailed in answering questions and sharing her good practice advice. We received our glasses a few days after the visit, both glasses worked perfectly. Dr. Wong went out of her way to help me.  I had the possibility of a detached retina when I went to see her in a panic.  First of all, she took me in right away and told me if my symptoms didn't dissipate, she would immediately call an ophthalmologist to assist me.   I later told her I made an appt with an ophthalmologist for the following week, Dr. Wong immediately called him and arranged for me to get into see him the next day.   Without her assistance, I would have been on pins and needles waiting to see what was wrong with my eye and if it would worsen. I went in to purchase two pairs of glasses and was greeted pleasantly, but when they found out I did not have optical insurance, they said I could not afford their glasses. I assured them that I knew the cost of a pair of glasses and was ready to pay it. They proceeded to show me their cheapest frame and tried to convinced me that I looked great in it. I decided on a more expensive frame and they said someone would be out to help me. When she came out she proceeded to help a new customer that had just walked in the door. Needless to say, I walked out. Sorry to say, they lost aa BIG sale that day. read more

Dr. Elena is wonderful! It had been almost 5 years since my last eye exam. I definitely was a little embarrassed that it had been a long time between eye exams. However, Dr. Elena was extremely kind and thorough throughout the entire exam. She answered all of my questions and helped educate me about my eyes. Her COVID protocols go above and beyond (I noticed air purifiers, masks on all employees and patients, reduced number of people inside, as well as disinfecting everything in between patients), and I am grateful for such a great appointment. Dr. Elena Wong and her staff were very courteous, kind and informative. I was due for an annual check up and was looking for a new optometrist in the area. I'm so glad I found Dr. Wong because she was extremely thorough and attentive during my visit. In addition to my annual check up, I wanted to understand my candidacy, risks and general thoughts for Lasik. She laid out a lot of considerations, general risks and outcomes that I should be aware of and gave me a referral for a Lasik surgeon to learn more. I like when doctors give me as much as information as possible so that I can make an informed decision. I'll also add that scheduling an appointment online was super easy. I even got emailed with instructions prior to my visit to fill out new patient forms all online. This made the day of my appointment fast and efficient. The office itself is also very clean, spaced out for social distancing, and the equipment is wiped down after each use. I was in need of a new optometrist since my previous one had retired. Turned to Yelp and found Carlmont Optometry so close to me with great reviews and I'm glad I chose them! Making the appointment on the phone was a breeze, insurance information was gathered, I was given an accurate quote of my exam and possible extra fees. I was given thorough instruction of the online portal and how to complete the paperwork before coming in. On the day of my appointment, everyone was wearing masks, protective gear and they asked me to wash my hands before doing some tests prior to seeing the doctor. I then met Dr. Elena Wong and she is absolutely wonderful! Even in the midst of a pandemic, she was able to conduct a thorough examination while taking precautions (using hand signals to communicate while she was close to my face instead of either of us speaking). The education she provided both with my prescription and health of my eye was very informative and she worked with me to find a great solution. I'm very appreciative of her expertise and the rest of the team for their help! Also to note, I did buy glasses at this location, I was charged for it all and the staff had realized they over charged and refunded me immediately when they realized the mistake. I just love this optometry office! The staff are so friendly and kind. Dr. Wong, professional and courteous. Ironically, 14 days ago, I was in the office when a very rude customer called and absolutely raged at all the staff. It was so disruptive and highly immature. I only know about this because the woman on the phone had the receptionist in tears. I'm gonna assume it was the lovely Diana who posted a review prior to me. I heard the receptionist kindly explain to whoever was on the phone that the insurance provided was incorrect and they tried so hard to get the correct insurance. The person calling was clueless to what insurance she actually had and was raging. She was put on hold because there was a roomful of patients waiting patiently for their appointment. After that drama, I made sure to apologize to them for what was an awful experience for them. No one should be so verbally abused and have to take that sort of misplaced anger. I saw nothing but kindness from the staff and they are amazing. They have me as a customer for life and I highly recommend them. read more

They call an hour before my appointment telling me my insurance was canceled. I told her I had Aetna. She argued saying I had VSP or another, can't remember what she said because she talks over you. I looked at my portfolio and it says "Aetna eye care". I called back and the woman would not let me talk, she would put me on hold. I found this to be extremely unprofessional right before I'm to go in for my appointment. I will go to Dr. Tearse for all eye appointments! Extremely professional team, no wait time, they understand insurance providers and do not make weird statements to customers. Belmont Optometry is super unprofessional. Good luck! read more

Awful experience that ended with a prescription that turned out to be wrong. The Dr. Spent almost three hours doing every exam under the sun and spending hours talking and talking. Finally, I just said I can't spend any more time here. I have had contacts and glasses for over 50 years and never had so much time wasted. One year later I went to Costco for my annual exam and new contacts and the dr. There said my prescription was not correct. Now I'm not having the headaches caused by miss diagnosis. read more

My family and I were looking for an annual check-up and found Carlmont Optometry. My wife, son, and I were welcomed by Dr. Wong. The place itself was clean and well kept, which was also comforting. Dr. Wong measured our temperature as we entered the office and disinfected our hands. Dr. Wong was by far one of the most informative optometrists we've ever had and she answered our questions about maintaining healthy eyes. It was my son's (6yr old) first visit to an optometrist. I used to see Dr. Liao in the Millbrae office, but then started to see Dr. Chang when Dr. Liao went on maternity leave (and now I think she's started her own practice). Anyway, I recently started coming to the Belmont location since I no longer work in Burlingame and really enjoy seeing Dr. Chang! She is very caring and treats you as if you were family. I love the time and attention that she provides with every visit. One time when I had a contact lens infection, she even gave me her cell phone number in case I needed to reach her in an emergency. Dr. Chang will take the time to make sure that you are comfortable with your glasses and/or contacts and I've never felt pressured to make a quick decision. She has recently been working with me to find a new pair of comfortable contacts, and has had the patience of working through quite a few different brands with me. I would definitely recommend Dr. Chang to anyone looking for a kind, caring, skilled optometrist. read more

Nice, clean optometrist location. Dr. Liao is really nice and knowledgeable. Her staff can be a lot friendlier but that's okay. I once ordered a $500 pair of eyeglasses because I thought I needed to burn some leftover HSA money, and then later realized I didn't have extra money at all. I have been coming here for years. They do a very comprehensive test of vision and eye health. Dr. Chang is very nice and seems quite knowledgeable. They take a LOT of time with the testing, which is good but I actually wish they would speed it up, due to the time that I've already spent in the waiting room. My biggest complaint is that I have had to wait over 30 mins and more for every appointment I have ever had here. One time, my husband was scheduled for right after me. After I waited for 40 minutes, I called him at home and told him I hadn't even been seen yet -- he might as well wait another hour before coming in. It would be nice if the office would place those calls letting us know they were running late. If a dilation is called for, requiring a 20 minute wait for the eyes to dilate and then more for the doctor to free up to see you again, you can pretty much kiss an entire afternoon goodbye. I think they are 3 1/2 stars due to the lengthy wait times. They are in a big shopping center. Lots of parking. read more

I was in the area wandering around and came across this place. I was just browsing around for some frames and sunglasses and one of the workers was kind to help me out. If you are ever in the area and in need of new frames or better service come to Carlmont Optometry. Ask for a young lady name Beth! She provides great service with an attention to detail of the frames chosen, knowledge of the products, and her great professional attitude. Also, it is at a convenient location with many shops around the area. Parking may be difficult in front of the office but park near Lunardis so avoid the hassle of being late! I don't recommend this place, because the owner Mike is not nice. I finished my I eye exam but my wife didn't doctor said my wife need to come back for further exam, and he said we need to pay copay and I never did before. I have been going here for a long time. He never asked for copay. We said we didn't pay before then he started yelling at us! And after I tried to pay him what I owe him he start screaming at us and said you need to apologize for me first or you get out of my store now, We did nothing wrong, But the doctor also his wife tried to say sorry but he yelled at her and put her in the room. She went out and tried to stop him but he put her in the room again. He is very mean but his wife really nice. This place is great. I called to make an appointment for a routine checkup, and the staff were really friendly. I got an appointment after 5pm so I didn't have to miss work (which is nice that they even have this option), and they were able to give me an appointment that was only 2 days after I called. The doctor was great also, she really explained everything she was doing and made me feel very comfortable. (I'm only giving 4 stars just because I didn't need glasses, so I can't assess that part of their service.) read more

If you have time to waste go here. The floor staff was on her iphone most of the time, except when she was inhaling brownies ans sunflower seeds. When I asked this lady about frames that were covered by the VSP price ranges, she just smirked and said no. The actual optometrist was awesome very well educated and informed. The RX specialist, tried to up sellb every chance he got. Sadly a good friend went in for an afternoon appt, for 45 minutes, well she came out 2+ hours later.
