Cold brew, small
Sydney J.

I arrived just a little before they closed. I was hoping to try one of their flavored drinks but they let me know they only had cold brew or drip coffee left, so I went for a cold brew, small, with 2% milk (milk did not cost any extra) and it was $5.50 before tip. Service was courteous and quick, and the cold brew itself was decent, not particularly memorable but it wasn't unpleasantly bitter.

Plenty of seating!

Much larger cafe than I originally thought with plenty of seating in a back area. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Ended up only getting a latte. There is a shelving unit near the ordering counter that contains multiple baked goods, so if you want a baked good with your coffee you're in luck! There is some street parking nearby, but may be difficult depending on the time of day. It was a bit pricey for a regular latte, I believe it was about 12 oz, but not too abnormal for the bay area but leaning towards the higher end. Coffee is good. This would be a good place to work if you're looking for that!

A very laid back coffee shop where you can read a book or work for hours. They sell food, coffee, and tea. The back of the coffee shop is very spacious and it has a piano and couch.

Only been here twice, but you can be damn sure the third and future visits will be stellar. I am greeted by the same lady who always asks more than any just the standard greeting, which I love. She is an efficient multi-tasker, making sure that her (likely) quickly-passing-through customers can rush off to their next destination after ordering. As for the actual food & drink - I've only had the Banana Mocha, but it was lovely both times. I'd say it's closer to a lightly sweetened chocolate latte - not overpoweringly sweet as one might first imagine. They sell Pebbles (berries / red velvet) vegan donuts, (plain, chocolate, almond) croissants, and baked bars, along with some more shelf-stable baked goods and instant oatmeal. I had the blueberry donut & a plain croissant my first two times - cause believe it or not the actual donut shops within a block of there always seem to have a line (good for them though!).

Cafe latte and the banana mocha

Due to the pandemic, I will be removing criteria that I had added to my reviews, such as restaurant ambience, mood, and wait time. This review will only focus on the dish. Quick Summary: - Coffee is not sour, deep and nutty - Pastries pair well with the coffee - A short walking distance from the Macarthur BART station - Music is trendy pop My family and I were planning to walk around the Macarthur area, but first we decided to find a place to have our first cup of coffee. After some searching, we found a coffee place just within walking distance from the Macarthur BART station. I ordered the caffe latte, and the banana mocha for my relative who prefers sweet coffee drinks. We were able to have our coffee inside, so we sat in the available tables and chairs that were close to the entrance and the counter. When I look behind me, there is another room - closed off for now - that is filled with empty chairs and tables. On a normal day, I could see there would usually be more guests sitting in the back room. Since we decided to drink inside, the coffee arrived in the most adorable cups I have ever seen in a coffee shop. As well as the cup designs, I also adore the interior design of the cafe. That was, in fact, one of the reasons why I decided to stop by this cafe. I love furniture with a classic and cottage like look. I mostly drank the caffe latte, but I did try the banana mocha too. The coffee flavor is deep and rich, a good energy for the morning and afternoon walk. It was a good balance of coffee and milk, and no change in acidity or bitterness to the last sip. The banana mocha was delicious too; not too sweet so it also paired well with the pastry we ordered along with our coffee. Speaking of pastry, I ordered the raspberry lemon bar. The sour, tartness is mild in this dessert, and I got a burst of raspberry in each bite. It was a very satisfying taste. I'm usually for sour lemon bars, but this one was so good I might change my preference. I loved the cafe here, so I would like to visit here again.

What a nice place to work, to have a matcha latte, to just enjoy a lil bit outside and change the routine. What most important thing for me, it is pet friendly. You will have a great time here, with a good service.

Egg and Cheese Sandwich

After passing by this place many times while catching the bus, I finally decided to to treat myself today. From the outside, this coffee shop looks rly small but there is a large seating area in the back with unique art. The cashier greeted me as I walked in and was super kind. I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich and an iced latte. Both were reasonably priced for a cafe! I love the cups they use for the coffee, and it had a solid well balanced taste. The egg and cheese sandwich was great too! I appreciate the freshness and quality of the ingredients, as the sandwich was steaming when I got it. The english muffin was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft in the inside, which paired well with the melted cheese and fluffy egg. I think they cooked the egg perfectly (it was not dry at all). This cafe is super chill and relaxing and I love the back seating area which is great for studying. The music is not TOO loud either. I will definitely try the banana mocha next time! *I also appreciate that they make an effort to check vaccination cards and ID if you are dining in, which most cafes don't seem to do!

I used to pass this café everyday on my way to Bart, and finally stopped in. I'm grateful that I did! This one of Oakland's hidden gems. I asked the barista to recommend a drink for me. I was very skeptical when he told me to try the "banana mocha", but it was surprisingly delicious! I also love the decor and the spacious lounge area. It is the perfect place to take your laptop or tablet if you need to get some work done or watch a video. I will definitely be returning!

It is a sweet little place, and I love the homey decor. We were looking for a little spot to have a good coffee and conversation and it was perfect for us. Coffee was really good and service was good. Would definitely go back

I pedaled my bike over there this Wednesday morning, aiming to secure a proper breakfast that would actually carry me past 11 a.m. The shop is cozy, definitely on the smaller side with a few seats inside, giving it that familiar, neighborhood spot feel. It's not a sprawling, antiseptic café, and I appreciate that. I ordered the Laney Breakfast Sandwich, which features egg, fresh spinach, sliced turkey, and Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin. What impressed me was the intentionality--this wasn't something sitting under a heat lamp, looking defeated. It was clearly made to order. The egg was seasoned right, the turkey wasn't flimsy, and the spinach added that necessary fresh bite. It was a damn good sandwich, simple as that. I paired that with the Berry Lovers Smoothie. The original recipe calls for banana, but I asked if they could swap that out for mango. My people know that mango adds a different kind of sunshine, and they executed the substitution flawlessly. It came out thick, perfectly blended--a rich mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and that mango kick. It was super refreshing and didn't taste like I was drinking melted ice. The service was quick and friendly, which is key on a weekday morning. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and intentionally prepared. If you're looking for high-quality breakfast fare that feels less commercial and more like something someone actually cares about, stop by. The short bike ride and the intimate seating are worth it for what comes out of that kitchen. They earned this review.

The one small local business in Chinatown of East Bay, the bubble tea café in the high crime rate area, will always continue to serve customers, locals and foreigners alike. It's good to see shopkeepers taking time to make healthier drinks like my açaí coconut milk smoothie. Along with deep fried chicken wings my brother liked, they slowly and surely got the orders right. Not too shabby knowing their bubble tea shop was currently the only one serving açaí other than the black sesame paste. Sweetheart Café wasn't my best go-to bubble tea café in Oakland. At least I'll definitely treat it as normal everyday café selling candies and bottled drinks.

Their boba drinks had became so popular that they opened locations in Berkeley, San Francisco and Milpitas. I love their bobas, it's sweet, bouncy and great chewing texture. I really hate to have to write this review but Cafe Da Fonk! needs to get it together:(…read more Came here on a Saturday and was really stoked since I wanted to go to their location in SF but noticed they moved to Oakland and I happened to be in the area this day. Our orders were taken and we sat down to wait. There were a TON OF FLIES buzzing around and I kept having to wave them off especially when we got our order to the table, which honestly was gross. We were called to pick up our order, but only 1 of the 4 items was ready: Zadie's Masterpiece Breakfast Sando - Really tasty and enjoyed the biscuit it was on. Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. Having one person as cashier and barrista is NOT a good idea on a busy Saturday morning. It was hard for them to take a moment and focus on the drinks becuase people kept coming in an placing orders which means we waited for 20+ minutes before getting our drinks. By then our food was mostly eaten! Thankfully we noticed they had a water pitcher for free water which was a saving grace! The wait for drinks was so long that people that were already sitting when we arrived and had already eaten their food were JUST getting their drinks before us. HORRIBLE! I felt really bad for the cashier/barista :( Another turn off, there is no understanding on what to do with dirty dishes. Do we bus our table? If so where do we put it? We noticed people leaving plates by the water pitcher and cups, some put them on the long counter by the coffee area. There wasn't a garbage or compost bin, so we weren't sure where to put food scraps. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.
