Ordered the Al pastor and a la enchilada burger. First of all, the patty was absolutely flavorless. The enchilada burger is a joke; it literally has two enchiladas in it and those enchiladas were also absolutely flavorless. Drinks are without flavor, we ordered a mojito and a kiwi cooler, and both drinks needed either more sugar or more spritz. I like the Burgerteca idea (a lot) and the location and ambiance is great. I also enjoyed the fries. That being said, this place could easily be moved up to 4 stars with a little work on their burger patties. All the toppings and creativity that went into each iteration of burger was laudable, but I just felt like the meat was just meh. Tell me why this is the best burger in southtown. I love burgers and burgerteca is spot on. 5 stars for the burgers. 5 stars for the queso fries. They're so good. I just remember that each fry was covered in savory queso sauce and omg bacon bits. Yum :) ok not to be too off on fine dining for burgers but.... i suggest they put pictures of the item on the menu. We where visiting San Antonio and a lady recommended we try this place. I'm so glad we did. 1st the service was amazing n 2nd the food was delicious. I had the mole fries and they where full of flavor n the mole was just perfect. I also had the pastor burger n it was juicy and the slice if pineapple added to the flavorful taste. The watermelon agua fresca was so refreshing n it wasn't too sweet. After your done with your meal don't forget to get ice cream or snowcone. They are home made and made with real fruit. I'll give Johnny Hernandez this: the location is always great but that is it.  My colleagues (Party of 6-7) dragged me to this place this past Saturday afternoon.  The place was not busy at all.  It took forever for our server to get our drinks and order.  The food took an hour to prepare.  Our order was very straight forward, no substitutions.  Customers all around us were getting their food after waiting maybe 20 to 30 minutes.  We complained to the manager but he seemed to hold no sway with the cooks because all he could do is stare at them.  The food was just ok, passable for a burger joint. We sat indoors and flies were everywhere. I don't know why I ever let anyone talk me into going to Johnny Hernandez's places. They almost always universally disappointed by everything except the ambiance.  La Gloria, La Fruteria, Burgerteca, etc. are always terrible experiences, in my humble opinion.  I almost hate myself a little for going.  What's crazy is you'll see this exact same review on most of his restaurants and he still can keep his doors open.   This is all my opinion. read more

Couldn't find the location at first since it is located along the river walk and is behind some train tracks that looks like the is nothing there. The atmosphere is very clean, vibrant, friendly staff, open atmosphere. You can dine inside or outside. They have some delicious drinks, my favorite was el pepino, which is a cucumber flavored alcoholic drink -very light in taste but has a kick to it. And the beet patty burger (vegan burger) is too die for. I have never had such a burger that is not meat have so much flavor. It is paired deliciously with poblano peppers and onions on a wheat bun. I feel like I have to give them a second chance since they had to return to items on my first visit. One because I could tell that the aguas frescos were made from the powder packets (that's not okay in my book), and I had hair in another (they replaced it which was sweet). Burgerteca truly hit the spot. The first sip of my margarita on the rocks wasn't a flavor of margarita mix or tequila...it was a strong burst of refreshing lime juice. It was strong but perfectly balanced. I've had many more terrible margaritas than good so this was a welcome surprise. We all split chips and queso and it was fantastic. The Al Pastor is the best burger I've had! I wasn't sure about the pineapple but its just enough to add that perfect amount of flavor. The fries are so good as well. The queso burger for instance , I tried to like it I really did I even removed the chips and queso which really gave the burger an odd taste it did nothing to help it .
