We came at lunch hour and we were immediately greeted at the door. They had space to accommodate seven of us. Our drink orders and lunch orders were put in quickly and all meals came out to us at the same time. Everyone at the table tried versions of the famous Jalapeño chicken. & not one of us had a complaint. I recommend the Jalapeño chicken fried steak.

Jalapeno chicken fried steak and jalapeno boneless skinless thighs

Jalapeno chicken, creamed jalapeno spinach, brown gravy, and fried okra

The food was excellent!! Very friendly staff took our order right away and brought the food very quickly. The building is a little crowded but the atmosphere was more like eating with tons on friends. I had the Jalapeño fried chicken with brown gravy. Both were amazing. The fried okra was very bland. The half team spinach was super delicious! It's a ways out of the way but I'll make the trip again!

Chicken fried steak!

Great service & awesome food! They make their bread! I've had the breakfast sandwiches, they are hot & delicious! Try one, then give me my thumbs up! I tried the chicken fried steak, it was perfect. Not small not over sized, perfect breading, not greasy at all! The gravy was smooth & tasty. On Friday they serve turkey! Thats next! Get some, now!

Fried fish and jalapeño fried chicken

Restaurant gives a rustic cozy vibe. Went at lunch hour. Very busy but was seated right away. 1st time there. A little cramped when you walk in cause it was busy. Plenty of southern comfort food options. I had the fried fish and fried chicken piece lunch special. Green beans and mash for sides. The fish was light and airy. Jalapeño fried chicken was fried to perfection and very juicy. Green beans were a bit bland and so was the mash. Food was warm but not hot. The homemade bread was delicious. All in all it is a great deal and food was good. Prices are very affordable and I was in and out in about 30mins. Service was great! Will go back to try the turkey and stuffing when it's not so busy.

Chicken fried steak, fried okra and onion rings.

My first visit to this Mecca of all things fried! This place is famous for their jalapeño fried steak and jalapeño fried chicken. I opted for the regular chicken fried steak so I could judge as such. It was meaty with a nice crisp crust. Very tasty and with the $9 daily lunch special. The fried okra, fried onion rings and gravy were all very good. I would have liked the onion rings to be a bit thicker, but all things considered, they were tasty. . My son had the jalapeño fried chicken thighs. This is a deceptive title because they are served flattened and without bones. Basically a couple of smaller, yet moist, chicken fried chicken with the jalapeño kicking the flavor up a notch or two. Sadly, by 12:45, they were out of their homemade pies. I'll look forward to those on the next visit.

Took time to answer questions and describe menu items. The place was pretty chill but definitely seems like it can be lively during evening hours. They have live music during various times. Order blackened fish tacos with mushroom rice pilaf. Two fish tacos to an order but they were stuff plenty with fish. Usually rice pilaf is an afterlife most places; but this side was plenty flavorful. Definitely good enough to stand on its own. Order an old fashioned for a cocktail; and it was plenty boozy. Very bourbon forward. The ratios were a bit off but I enjoyed anyway. Looking forward to visiting them again soon to check out other key items as well as taking in some live music and a more lively atmosphere

The ordering process is similar to fast food; order at the counter, take a numbered cone, and wait for the server to bring out your food. I didn't really like ordering at the counter because it feels rushed and I didn't get the opportunity to review the menu thoroughly. I suggest viewing the menu online prior to arriving. We found seating at a table top section overlooking the live band that was playing. The restaurant has cool vibes, great decor, and it appeared very popular. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were presented well, portion sizes were huge, and overall flavor was good. Parking lot is small so street parking will most likely be your next best option. The restrooms are single use so there may be a wait. Overall it was a pretty good experience!

When it turned out that I could arrive earlier than I thought I'd be able to, I called the restaurant to see if they could take me earlier and they said sure, they had plenty of availability this evening. I took a Veo scooter over there, which was scary. The directions told me to go on to a street and through the railroad tracks, but there were signs saying Do Not Enter and such. But I got there safely. Ambiance: 3.5/5. The restaurant is small and dimly lit. There is a sort of a reddish glow to the pictures. Tables are very close together, and sometimes wobbly and in need of a stopper, which the staff is happy to take care of. Service: 5/5. My server Kenzie was very nice and informative. She was happy to chat a little about last night's Spurs game and the level of enthusiasm the city has for the team. I noticed she had a pleasant demeanor with the other customers too, like they were regulars maybe. Anyway, she made me feel welcome even though I was dining alone. I wish more servers in NYC had this kind of tableside manner. Food: 4.3/5. I really enjoyed the smell, density, and texture of the milk bread. The duck charcuterie was pretty good, although I didn't care for the potato crisps and I don't think I got any sour cherry on mine. The ribeye was cooked medium rare and was too chewy/sinewy for my taste. The temperature was also too low. To her credit, Kenzie said "it's served medium rare, is that okay?" and I said "could you do medium rare plus?" and I hated myself as soon as the words came out of my mouth. I don't like to make trouble for people. They did their best, but it was still underdone to my liking. Moreover, it was heavily sauced. I feel like steak should not be reliant on sauce. I understand that Chef Kim is an alumnus of Melisse (I went to Citrin in LA a few years ago, eponymous by the same chef) and that French technique may emphasize sauce, but I thought it was too much. What saved the meal was the dessert. The butter cake was really rich and delicious. I was informed that they make it fresh and that's why it takes longer to come out than the other dessert (which this evening happened to be a chocolate mousse with pistachio topping). The whipped cream and berries are kind of what you would expect would be associated with a cake such as this, but they were executed nicely. In all, a great experience amplified by the quality of the service. Best wishes to the staff. I hope it is a pleasant non toxic place to work.

The service was friendly and attentive, our server was excellent and made sure to check if we had any food allergies before we placed our orders. We ordered the Bread (milk bread with butter) which has to be some of our favorite bread in town we decided after devouring it. Then we shared the mushroom risotto (the restaurant encourages sharing as the entrees are family style). The mushrooms risotto was both our favorite dishes. My husband had never had risotto before and as a former long time vegetarian I've had my fair share of risotto. It was incredible, the mushrooms had a meaty texture and an umami flavor. It almost tasted like macaroni and cheese which may seem like an odd comparison but it was sooo good !! Then we shared the fish and chips which the skin of the fish was crispy yet not too heavy. My only blight with the meal yesterday was that the fries seemed underdone and a little cold and for a family style serving there wasn't much sauce to share between two people. Overall we'd love to return! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting town or other locals.

The lady at the counter was nice and when we ordered the burgers she asked if we wanted everything on it. I always appreciate when they ask that because sometimes I forget to say I don't want mustard or pickles. The food was alright, almost down right bad. Not at all close to good. The fries and onion rings were a let down, the fries had a weird after taste and it wasn't seasoning because they weren't seasoned or salted at all. The onion rings weren't season or salted at all, basically fried onions but no salt. The milkshake was not good. Did not taste like typical chocolate, not sure what they could've used because it doesn't take like a syrup or ice cream I've had before. Lastly, the sweet tea was so strong that all the ratios were wrong. Tea,water and sugar all wrong proportions because it tasted like very strong black tea with little amount of sugar. The only saving grace was the chili cheese dog, but nothing special about it, literally hot dug bun, hotdog, chili and very little cheese. Will not be coming back unfortunately. I feel almost disgusted and gagged by what I ate.
