My husband brought me here for lunch after talking about it forever. This place did not disappoint! We both got the 2 piece jalapeno chicken. I got onion rings and carrot salad. It was delicious!!! Y'all. I'm never on this side of town. Seriously. So, there's no telling how long I've had this place bookmarked. I'm a sucker for local "click bait 'best of'" lists...I can only assume that's where I found out about it. Driving by, it's got that hole in the wall, run down look. Ordinarily , that doesn't bother me, but seeing it in person ...I must admit I probably wouldn't normally go. But come on! How can you resist the large banner or front reading, " Home of the original jalapeño chicken fried steak". So, in I went to eat with friends. The place, despite the outside, is as homey inside as I can remember anyplace being. Every single person there was as nice as could be and service was exceptional. Love the old school diner vibe! Yep, I tried the jalapeño chicken fried steak and it was phenomenal. Not too spicy, just the right amount of jalapeño. I found it just the right size for the cost, too. Borderline disappointed in the mash potatoes. They could have been hotter and they had that -end of the batch - taste and feel. Overall, not a huge fan of the bathrooms being outside, but that's part of the charm, maybe? Don't let the four stars fool you, because if this joint was more convenient, I'd definitely be going again. read more

We came at lunch hour and we were immediately greeted at the door. They had space to accommodate seven of us. Our drink orders and lunch orders were put in quickly and all meals came out to us at the same time. Restaurant gives a rustic cozy vibe. Went at lunch hour. Very busy but was seated right away. 1st time there. A little cramped when you walk in cause it was busy. Plenty of southern comfort food options. I had the fried fish and fried chicken piece lunch special. Green beans and mash for sides. The fish was light and airy. Jalapeño fried chicken was fried to perfection and very juicy. Green beans were a bit bland and so was the mash. Food was warm but not hot. The homemade bread was delicious. All in all it is a great deal and food was good. Prices are very affordable and I was in and out in about 30mins. Service was great! My first visit to this Mecca of all things fried! This place is famous for their jalapeño fried steak and jalapeño fried chicken. I opted for the regular chicken fried steak so I could judge as such. It was meaty with a nice crisp crust. Very tasty and with the $9 daily lunch special. The fried okra, fried onion rings and gravy were all very good. I would have liked the onion rings to be a bit thicker, but all things considered, they were tasty. . My son had the jalapeño fried chicken thighs. This is a deceptive title because they are served flattened and without bones. Basically a couple of smaller, yet moist, chicken fried chicken with the jalapeño kicking the flavor up a notch or two. Sadly, by 12:45, they were out of their homemade pies. I'll look forward to those on the next visit. read more

I've since ate here twice more. Both times inside during lunch. This is old school diner 101. The place has no matching chairs or tables. The decor is borderline country trash/Cracker Barrel, the restrooms are outside around the corner and require a key that is posted on a wood beam in the dining area. The place is homey to say the least. With all that out of the way, I'll now address the food. Everything is good. It's old school. Just like Momma. The chicken doesn't all look identical. The sides are all delicious. The main ingredient is jalapeño and you can order it without but why? It is the home of Jalapeño chicken. They are only open mon-fri 7 am to 2:30 pm Whatever you do. Causal place. Great food. Great service. The jalapeno fried chicken breast was awesome. The jalapeno mac and cheese was not just mac and cheese with a jalapeno or two on top as garnish - but actually infused with their terrific flavor. Fresh homemade buns toasted to perfection. This place has been around for years,and recently my my family decided to give it a try.The food here has great flavor.Everything we have ordered was good.The portions for the sides are small,and sometimes they can get a little heavy on the SALT.The chicken fried steak is a nice size,but the meatloaf slice was small.I didn't like the meatloaf very salty sauce.I ordered gravy,and scraped the sauce off.This is a small restaurant,close tables with no ventilation.The restrooms are located outside the back door around the corner with a padlock you have to open.Look before you go around the corner,because you have to walk in the Drive thru lane. read more

Now let's talk food.... the jalapeno fried chicken...GET IT! The breading is light and crispy with a little bit of a kick. I would have preferred more spiciness. But overall, the chicken was moist on the inside and delicious! The bread biscuit that comes with it is huge, buttery, & exceptionally good. I also really enjoyed the jalapeño mac n cheese. If I slapped my momma the amount of times that I've been here, she'd be super pissed and ready to lay down a whoopin'. This place is like a good book with a crappy cover, it's like a ghetto version of the love shack on the outside, but inside it's a feast of many pleasantries. I'm tellin' ya, this place has character, from the people that work there, to their ridiculously delicious bread. I come here for the bread, am I allowed to say that? I mean this is a restaurant, but that bread is off the chain and it slays me every time. Now, I don't know if you ever been slain by anything, but you can't move afterwards. My buddies come here to get dat chicken fried steak, but their burgers, chicken sandwiches, turkey sandwich, and jalapeno chicken fried steak that will make you holla for more, but don't do it too loudly, the waitress will slap you. Speaking of slapping, that bread damn it, I can't get over it, it's buttery goodness is just so manly, I mean it's huge! It'll hit you right in the chops if you don't respect it. The last thing I had from here was their turkey sandwich, and I must have under-estimated it, because I was floored. Out cold in 13 seconds flat, like Jose Aldo. STILL too soon. After leaving from a job interview nearby I decided to kill some time and have lunch here. Once I stepped inside I seated myself on a wooden booth. From inside Radicke's looks kinda like one of those itty-bitty country,truck-stop diners you've seen in movies like Thelma & Louise and Dumb & Dumber (think of the infamous salt throwing scene). In a nutshell, think of it as Lulu's or Tip Top Cafe but filled with truckers and travelers passing by leaving to/from S.A. instead of tourists and foodies, located off of a busy throughfare with big rigs passing by and next to hotels like Rodeway Inn and EconoLodge. I took some time to admire the bluebonnets painting on top of the register. Alas they had the radio tuned in to a country station that was playing Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" song. Fortunately the music was played softly in the background so you can hear yourself think instead of loud like over at Cowboys Dancehall. My waitress came to my table,brought me a menu and asked "What can I get you to drink, hon?" I asked for a sweet ice tea. She brought me a cup of iced tea but it wasn't sweetened like I requested. Maybe it was a misunderstanding because I misheard her say Radicke's doesn't have sweet tea. Hmm what kind of Southern-style diner doesn't carry sweet tea? Oh well nevermind, I reckon I'm a grown man and I can sweeten my own dangum tea thank you very much! I looked at the menu quickly and decided what to order. I would've ordered their jalapeno chicken but I've been craving a chicken fried steak for a while and I was already tired of chicken so I decided to order chicken fried steak with green beans and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. As soon as my order arrived I dug into the mashed potatoes. To my disappointment, they weren't hot enough. Green beans , OTOH, were hot and good. I cut into the chicken fried steak and took a bite. Radicke's CFS isn't falling off the plate nor is enormous like the kind served at Lulu's or Bud Jones but that didn't really bother me much since my appetite wasn't huge. I squeezed some honey on the roll that came with my food. Waitress kept my glass refilled with more unsweet tea and I dumped more sugar in it til it was sweet to my satisfaction. Before concluding my lunch and hitting the road I decided to have a dessert, chocolate cream pie and it was satisfying. It was right up there with Earl Abel's, Tip Top and Luby's chocolate cream pies. If I'm ever around in the area next time between 10:30am-2:30pm I'll probably return. I'm not sure exactly when next time will be since I don't live in that part of town and I'm more of a dinner person than a lunch person. It'd be cool if Food Network's DDD paid Radicke's a visit so the publicity will give them more business and hopefully they can stay open longer. But for now only time can tell. read more
