George's Market - Sausage plates and beer. Perfection!

Would you expect a small market to pack a punch with good beer and German food? No? Well, try…read moreGeorge's Market and find out The Reuben sandwich with warm german potato salad was a banger. Meat was juicy, sauce is plentiful, and it all conglomerates into a messy sandwich of deliciousness. Sausages are the other star here. The Spicy Hungarian sausage with mustard was absolutely a banger as well. It's a nice light kick and savory flavor with each bite. We finished off with a Cherry strudel which was not too sweet but still had the nice sugary finish of a dessert. I feel like I'm rambling but long story short, great food, great beer, great time. Have a slice of European cuisine out in Calimesa.

Food: We ordered the half Reuben sandwich with a side of warm German potato salad, a spicy…read moreHungarian sausage, and finished with a cherry strudel for dessert alongside a German beer on tap. The Reuben and potato salad combo was especially hearty and satisfying, with rich, savory flavors that felt very true to a classic deli experience. The Hungarian sausage had a great depth of flavor, savory and well-seasoned without tipping into being overly salty. The cherry strudel was a standout to end the meal, filled generously with cherries and syrup, wrapped in a flaky pastry that balanced sweetness and texture really well. The beer tied everything together nicely, cold and refreshing, and exactly what you'd want with this kind of meal. I still prefer Busy Bees in San Pedro, but this was a nice alternative within the IE area. Price: George's Market falls into a casual, reasonable deli pricing tier. Sandwiches like the Reuben and similar deli items are generally in the mid‑teens range, while sausage plates and hot meals can push closer to around $15-20 depending on what you get. Beer and imported items vary, but overall you can expect to spend about $15-25 per person for a solid, filling meal. Given the quality, portion sizes, and specialty nature of the food, the pricing feels fair. Ambiance: The space is part cozy German market, part deli counter, with a warm, wood-heavy interior that feels inviting and a bit nostalgic. There's both indoor seating and an outdoor area, giving flexibility depending on the weather or how busy it is. Beyond the dining area, the market itself sells a wide range of German groceries and specialty products, which adds to the charm and makes it feel like more of an experience than just a quick meal. Service: Service was good and impressively efficient given how busy it gets. There was a noticeable line when we went (especially on a weekend lunch time), but things moved steadily and the staff kept everything organized without feeling rushed or chaotic. Friendly and straightforward overall. Parking: Parking is one of the easier parts of the visit. It's located in a plaza with a large shared lot, so there's plenty of space and no real hassle finding a spot, even during peak hours.

The Korean sweet and spicy wings were crispy, juicy, and that homemade sauce was phenomenal. The crazy fries with their homemade sauce thousand island sauce were delicious, and the spicy teriyaki sauce on the chicken teriyaki plate was so good I wanted to take a bottle home. We also loved the noodles and the grilled deluxe wrap. For dessert, we had the apple tart and mochi, which were the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and homemade. The only reason why I am giving them a 3 star is because the other times we have gone to eat there,…read morethe food and customized drinks were good. But the customer service sucked everytime!! Tonight we tried to go eat and the girl behind the counter said she couldn't seat us because the wait was 20 minutes, I said okay we can wait but can we sit at this table and she says no. I asked her if it was reserved and she says no it's not but since there are only two cooks, the wait for food will be awhile and she hasn't taken the orders of two other tables. So what are you doing to where you have customers waiting is what I am thinking because when we walked in, her and the other person there were standing behind the counter. I didn't understand why we couldn't sit and wait and wasn't going to waste my time arguing so we went somewhere else. No food is good enough to wait forever for especially being told we couldn't have a sit and wait because of whatever bs explanation she gave me. Not sure we will be back but who knows....maybe it was one of those days. Update and response to owner: The tables were "reset" and ready for seating. The waitress stated we couldn't sit because there were only two cooks and pretty much all orders were behind 20 minutes. She still didn't take the orders of two other tables and even though I told her we were okay with the wait, she said she still couldn't seat us. In addition to that, besides it being a holiday weekend, I've stated that other times we've had to wait even during the middle of the week. Like I said, food is good, it's the customer service that needs to be worked on. Others may disagree with me but I said what I said from my own experience with your restaurant.

I finally tried it after years of passing by, ended up going in on a slow workday by myself, and I'm glad I did. The artichoke hearts were honestly one of the highlights, really well done. The beer selection is also unique and worth exploring if you're into trying something outside the usual. Service stood out too. I had a newer waitress who was still in training, and she handled everything really well. Attentive, polite, and didn't miss a step, which says a lot. The place itself is clean and has a classy feel without trying too hard. It's not somewhere I'd go all the time, but that's kind of the point. It feels more like a spot for special occasions or when you want something a little more unique and elevated than the usual rotation. Solid experience overall. 4 stars.
