Great BURGERS at a GREAT BIG PRICE. 2 burgers and 2 beers = 50 bucks. Food was good not great. Service was ok at best.....ordered beers didn't see the waiter for about 10 minutes. After he dropped our food to us didn't see him again until he brought the check. If you just have to have something different or you got an extra 15 bucks to blow on a burger go here. I hate to update a review with negative comments but please, do not order the portabella (or portobello, whichever spelling you prefer) ANYTHING from Burgerhaus. I used to get their burgers and I'd substitute the burger patty with a portabella mushroom. It was always cooked perfectly and delicious. For years this is what I would order. About a year and a half ago something changed: their mushrooms are nauseating. I'm not sure if the cooking staff changed but the mushrooms now don't have a delicious marinated taste. They now taste like rubber and kind of act like rubber too. They're too hard, very fibrous and are not prepared correctly. I gave them the benefit of the doubt: maybe it was one bad mushroom. I tried again. A second bad mushroom. I tried a third and forth time and now I've fully given up. I wish I could pinpoint the specific problem, whether it's cooking or cleaning. CLEANING: They should be cleaned individually and not just "run under cold water". I doubt a mushroom brush is being used, but after the mushroom is cleaned (wiping it is the preferred method with a wet paper towel), then they should be cleaned, the stem should be removed, black gills should be removed and inner edge of the cap should be trimmed. COOKING: A good practice is to score the top of the mushroom to allow it to cook evenly. I'm not sure if they were marinated before or what's used on them when they're cooked (olive oil? salt?) but they're impossible to eat and the taste is just awful. It's a huge shame. Burgerhaus, if you guys don't know how to cook an edible mushroom cap, perhaps remove it from your menu? Maybe bring in a Beyond patty or Impossible patty to substitute instead. I'm still leaving three stars since the rest of the food is pretty decent. read more

Our waitress was very nice and attentive but mixed up our beer order a few times. The burgers were delicious, and the variety of choices is awesome. Husband and I visited here over the weekend for the first time. I read reviews prior to coming here that these were tasty and quality burgers. Well they better be for $14 a burger. With so many options, I got the Monaco & my husband got the Salamanca. We both thought they were good, but not great. Honestly, I feel like so much flavor got lost in the dense pretzel buns. I think I would've added one more star for being on a better bun. Guac & chips were great. The Moscow Mule my hubby ordered was mediocre, just like the burger. Anyways, our server was not friendly at all, but she did do her job well. She took our order promptly, food was ready in a timely fashion (15-20 minutes), and we were asked how we were doing within 3-4 minutes of eating. Because her attitude was not good, it set bad vibes from the very beginning. My hubby and I don't like going to restaurants for what's supposed to be a fun date night, to be served by an unhappy person. Lastly, after leaving, my husband and I went home to relax. I had a taste for a burger this past weekend so I told my husband I wanted to try this place. Based on reviews we ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. They were AMAZING! They're breaded like tempura, are a dark golden color, and fully battered.The best fried pickles we've had so far. For my burger I ordered the Aussie. Its highlights were the applewood bacon and a fried egg on top. So delicious! The burger had the perfect amount of seasoning and I was able to customize it with a brioche bun instead of the wheat bun it originally comes with. No problem! Only a small disappointment with the Cajun fries....I thought they'd be made like the ones at Popeyes or Rally's, where there's a nice flavor and spice. Here they seem to be just regular fries with like an Old Bay seasoning sprinkled on top. Oh and our waiter Vincent in the bar area was awesome. I avoided this place when it opened because it was packed every single time I tried it. 3 months down the road when things cooled down I stopped by to check it out. I think I'm down to 6-7 visits so far and my experience has been great every single time. Food has been very good, cooked as ordered, and flavorful. The Santiago and the Salamanca are my go-to choices. The one issue I agree with other reviewers is that the blue cheese fires do not have enough flavor to be called that, but in my eyes this is a minor thing that does not detract from the experience. I also see a few complaining about flavor which makes me wonder if this was an issue when they were starting up because I just have not seen this. There's always a wide selection of the good stuff both on tap and bottled. Make sure you ask for samples of whatever they have on tap so you can expand your beer horizons. I've been surprised with some things I thought I would hate but ended up loving (some banana beer). If you decide to try it out do yourself a favor and ask for Amanda. I love love love love love this restaurant. I'm a vegetarian and my husband is most certainly not. We both love this place. For me, I can substitute a fake burger patty OR a portobello mushroom instead of a beef patty. You can also get turkey burgers. Then, you pick one of many burger styles named after locations and while you wait for your food, you can enjoy one of many craft beers. :) The first time I came, I got the truffle parm fries. Those were a little boring and the next time, I got bleu cheese fries as a side. Those were better but had very little toppings so they were mostly just fries. I don't know if someone complained, but since my second trip there, when I get the bleu cheese fries now, they're covered in crumbles of delicious sharp cheese and bleu cheese sauce. Amazing. So sooooo good. If someone did complain, bravo to the restaurant for making it worth the $2 extra for 'premium' fries. :) My husband gets the chili fries and says they're amazing. I think I've eaten here a total of 8 times and I've ordered food to-go another 2. It's seriously THAT delicious. Ten minutes later a table of three women was seated in a booth by the window, and we had not been approached yet for an order. Always loved their turkey burgers but they must have changed suppliers. Found bones in last two sandwiches. Will not order again. Sent comment on their web page but never heard from anyone. Sweet potato fries are really good. Ordered a red bull online but never received when order picked up. Bar manager said they don't sell red bull but yet it's on their website. Burgerhaus was a birthday choice my sister made, she always wanted to try the burgers as she lives in Munster. So, I honored her wishes as I traveled from Chicago on a Friday evening through rush hour to treat her. Upon entering the restaurant, finally I can get a drink....not. No absolute vodka, no kettle one, and the margarita that my daughter ordered tasted like sour lemonade with a lot of ice in a small glass. I chose water instead. The waitress was very nice explaining to our party of 5 that she was very busy as she had two other party tables to attend to, so that meant...I'm gonna screw up...please forgive me. As far as the burgers, it was very dry with no flavor, I've had better at Meatheads, Culvers, hell even McDonalds. I had to wait for mustard, I didn't know I was getting white cheddar, my parmesan truffle fries were warm with no parmesan cheese or oil anywhere in sight. My niece ordered sweet potato fries that looked like a wilted plant. The chocolate shake was good when they remembered to bring it. Then I get my bill which was wrong, $40 over what I ordered. This is my Second time trying this restaurant. We arrived & were immediately greeted & seated. We waited a few minutes for our waiter to come & take our drink orders. I asked for a glass or water with lemon in addition to my soda. A few minutes passed & the waiter brought our drinks, but forgot my water with lemon. The waiter took our order & was very nice about explaining the different burger choices. We ordered & And waited a super long time for our dinner. I still did not receive my water with lemon and after waiting so long I asked someone else for my water with lemon. While we were waiting for our food I noticed several other tables also waiting a long time for their food. Finally a manager came over and apologized because they realized we along with others were very unhappy with our service. The manager apologized and explained to us our waiter was new. The manager re-took our orders and promised they would be out shortly, which they were. I wasn't all that impressed with my food it was just OK. Because this was the second time at this restaurant and both times we're not that great I don't believe I'll be back.You'd probably be better off just making some burgers at home. read more

I was given a recommendation to try BurgerHaus. I've seen it there on the corner of US41/US30 in Schererville for years. I had a to go order. When I looked at the selections online, I thought that the burgers are pricey. But, I thought I'd give it a try. My wife and I were very disappointed. For the price, I was expecting something super fantastic. They were not. You can do much better buying some good quality burger at a butcher like Rob's in Dyer and then make one yourself. If not, then Culvers, Schoops, or FiveGuys. I still think your own are better at home, but if you don't feel like cooking those would be better than the average fast food and NOT overpriced as they are at BurgerHaus. read more

Once again, an artisan burger shop pulls into the tri-town area, trying to make a splash. When are people going to learn that SCHOOP'S is the first, last, and only name in hamburgers, in the region. Don't get my wrong, Burgerhaus is decent, but it just doesn't live up to all the hype. In my opinion, this place is just doing what Bagger Dave's was attempting to do, attracting the hipster elite with the promise of unique toppings and bun combinations. In the end, it always comes back to the undeniable fact that a gigantic, quality hamburger/cheeseburger with traditional toppings and burnt/crusty ends can't be beaten. All too often these days, I'm finding that restaurants are covering up their inability to prepare a delicious, recognizable hamburger/cheeseburger by slathering it with oddball combinations of fruits, sauces, and, offensive cheeses, and vegetables. On my visit to Burgerhaus, I ordered some pickle chips and the "Aussie Burger." I also had them whip me up a side order of blue cheese fries. Our waitress was excellent. She was kind, attentive, patient, and accommodating. If the other employees at this place are half as efficient, the management should be proud. Back to the food. The Aussie: A combination of thick applewood smoked bacon, Gouda cheese, a fried egg, mayo, butter lettuce and a beef steak tomato, served on a whole wheat bun. The burger with all of the fixings on top was totally middle of the road. The burger (meat) by itself, wasn't even bland and unappetising. The fries were tasty but didn't really incorporate enough blue cheese to necessitate calling them "spicy blue cheese fries." In addition, any restaurant willing to charge 8$ for a small basket of fries, it more delusional than a Bernie Sanders supporter in October. OUT OF YOUR MIND. The restaurant was very clean and the decor was warm and inviting. If I was to make out a report card it would look like this: Decor - A Staff - A Food - C - Presentation - A Price - Ddddddon't get me $tarted. If you are going to do burgers in this area you have to be able to compete with the likes of Revolution (Valpo) Schoop's (Munster - St. John - Schererville), Three Floyds (Munster). Hell, I would rather have a Royal Red Robin burger than the Aussie. I would be willing to go back and try one more burger but I would definitely wait a few months to make sure they're firing on all cylinders. read more

We were excited when this place opened and went on a Sunday afternoon. It was crowded so we just sat at the bar. Atmosphere - Overall the atmosphere was cool but somewhat lacking. We expected a bit more just looking at it from the outside. The bar was kind of small and it felt a bit cramped in the building but that wasn't a huge deal. The layout of the building it is in makes for a difficult restaurant layout. I expected it to be more open than it was. We expected more of a burger-bar type restaurant but the bar was definitely understated. Only a couple TVs (unless we missed some other ones around the place). Ideally I would like to go to a place like that to watch sports but it does not seem like they were setup for that. The TVs are smaller than a typical bar but maybe that is not the vibe they are going for. Food - Food was pretty good. Not as great as we had thought it was going to be but I would eat it again. It took a little longer than we had liked but they were pretty busy. Service - This was the worst part. Like I said, we sat at the bar because they were crowded. The bartender wasn't overly pleasant. He seemed annoyed to be working and seemed to be complaining about something to other waitresses as they stopped at the bar. We felt like we were inconveniencing him every time we asked for something. There were other guests at the bar that were obviously feeling the same. Maybe we caught him on a bad day but service wasn't quick, we'd ask for things and he would just go do something else. Tough to rate a place on your experience with one server but it was the one we got. Overall it was okay but we definitely expected better. I think the place has a lot of potential and maybe we just caught the wrong guy on the wrong day but I don't see us going back there frequently. read more

This place has a decent atmosphere, decent food, and great service. My real rating is more of a 3.5. We started the night with the New Orleans pickle chips, which I really liked. They were crispy and went great with the sauce. I also ordered a nice, Old Rasputin Stout to go along with my meal. As for my burger, I went with the Monaco, and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. I also had my fries upgraded to the garlic parmesan fries. I also ordered a chocolate and salted caramel shake. The presentation of the food was nice (see pictures), and we didn't have to wait too long. As for taste, the fries were very dry and I asked for a bleu cheese sauce to dip them in, which worked out nicely. The burger itself was ok. Not bad, not great, just ok. I wouldn't exactly call it "bland," but it could have used some more flavor. My beer went along nicely with the meal. The shake tasted pretty good, but I would not order again as I wasn't fond of the consistency (it tasted a little too icy for me and less creamy). I would go back here again because I think it was decent and I would like to try another one of their burgers at some point. Went here today for lunch. First time trying it out. Had 4 adults and one child in party. A friend got the salmon sandwich and he said it was delicious. The other three of us adults got various burgers. The meat was really fantastic. I had mine bunless with butter lettuce as the buns. The Carmelita's onions and blue cheese on top were perfection. The bacon on top was crisp and truly some of the best bacon I have had. The little one in our group had the grilled cheese and fries. Her portion was as much as the adults were getting! Doggy bag!
