So... they've been open for a while now. I've waited so long to go cuz I get mixed reviews from people I know. Some people love it while others just aren't that fond of it. I'm so glad that my Chica requested to go here. I really do think it depends on what you order and HOW it's ordered. I got the Imperial Chicken Lettuce Wraps and a side of Cole Slaw. The wraps were absolutely delicious but the slaw was not. I'm sure it's a personal preference cuz my friend LOVES their slaw. The service is super sweet. My husband and I tried Burgerhaus tonight for the first time and it was delicious! We split the American Burger and the Carne Asada Fries between us so we could try both. Our food came out fast and it was FANTASTIC. The Carne Asada Fries were so good and the American Burger was cooked to perfection! (We both agreed that we liked the burger better than the ones at Red Robin down the street.) Plus, their fries were crispy and well-seasoned. I think the quality of food was well worth the price point (about $16-$20 per person). Our server was fast and knowledgeable about the menu. Chilli was tasty and had a pleasant kick of spice. The cheese is tepid, and I wish it had melted. I think they could add oyster crackers for a great texture. I had the BurgerHaus burger. The food, fries, drinks were awesome as usual. Even seemed a little better since we were last here. A definite place for Schererville residents to visit or re-visit. Tourists this is a great introduction to the other fine restaurants in our area. I digress.The atmosphere was relaxing. Felt very comfortable having dinner here. The service impeccable. Kelly was our server. She made sure everything was going well. It was. She was there when we needed something, just the right amount of checking and not over bearing. She has a very upbeat attitude and was very nice to talk too. She had other customers smiling and laughing too. Yep an excellent restaurant to o to. Not sure what happened to this place -- was a great concept but from what I'm seeing tonight, I assume it is now being horribly managed into the ground. Half empty on a Saturday night. Staff seems overly casual and kind of chaotic in dress, service, and professionalism. Menus are dirty. Beer was obviously from a poorly cleaned line (you know that weird flavor when it just is musty and off). Burger was fine but bun was kind of stale. I observed an interaction where the bar staff informed a server that several of the most popular/commonly ordered beers were out, and the server was visibly frustrated, which I completely understand-- this type of stuff messes with her livelihood! I used to work in the restaurant and hospitality industry, and all signs point to horrible management. I feel bad for the employees here -- they were all so nice and seem like a sweet bunch of folks -- don't think it's their fault. However, everything about this restaurant has the vibes of one of those bar/restaurant takeover shows, where a kind group of hardworking misfits is getting effed over by an insane owner or manager. The food was mediocre at best. If you're going to advertise yourself as a great burger house, you should have a good burger. It was just Ok. But once you ad in the cost it's not that good. 20$ for a burger is way way to expensive. Especially that it's just for lunch. My husband ordered an extra burger and it never came. We had to go looking for condiments since our server was never seen again. It was not busy in there either. I'm gluten free and the Point Loma Carne Asada Fries and Taipei Chicken Lettuce Wraps were insanely good. The next 2 times I went though, I ordered salad both times and both times I had hair in my meal. Staff did almost nothing to fix this. Offered 15% off the one entree I had with hair in it. We were on our way from Minnesota to family in NW Indiana. So glad we took a chance & stopped for a break here. We stopped mid-afternoon. It wasn't busy and service was just the right amount of attentive. Our meals had this deliciously careful balance between meat, sauce and add-ons. Everything had a delicious purpose, nothing was just for looks. The flavors were perfectly balanced. I tried bleu cheese fries (not a flavor combo I'd had before).
