I wish they had grilled the bread. The soda machine also didn't have enough gas for fizz in the drinks. This was my first time trying Habit grill. Rather than picking up my order via the drive thru, I walked inside and oh what a sight to see! My order was ready and just sitting in the casing for order pickups. It's very disappointing and hope that when a new employee starts, they are properly trained before going in the line. The host at the desk didn't even look up for literally three minutes. No hello, no Happy Mother's Day, no "your server will be with you shortly." Needless to say, everything took forever after that, including getting the check. We were in the diner for about an hour and a half. Everyone understands restaurants can be busy on Mother's Day, but it wasn't busy when we got there, and even when places are busy, no one should be spending an hour and a half in a diner for breakfast. What's disappointing is that this is actually the second time we've been there since the renovation, and unfortunately we had the same experience with the service both times. From now on, we'll gladly take the extra 20-minute ride to the River Edge Diner in River Edge. The service, food, and staff there are excellent, and you actually feel welcome and happy to be there. They set up in the driveway, set up their tent and got down to the business of feeding 60 hungry people. We were there on the later end of a Thursday evening, and it seemed like the staff was winding down for the night when they had to deal with our big table and specific requests. There was a large bar, but we all skipped the drinks. The dining area had several huge booths and a corresponding number of tables. We squeezed into a booth and were promptly given tablet menus and a coloring placemat with crayons for the toddler in the party. Our server took a while to get into the groove of entering our customized order into her digital system, but she let us know that it was only her third day. Despite appearing a bit clunky, she flawlessly took down all of our desired items and special requests. She even thought to drop off extra silverware, napkins, etc. In terms of the food, I ordered the California Bowl, which was excellent, but ordering it in the large size was a bit too filling, even for me! The massive bowl allowed space for each component to have its own section, so the diner could either incorporate the ingredients together like a tossed salad or eat them one-by-one, based on their preference. The platter included a handful of chickpea falafel balls, sliced avocado, cauliflower rice, beet hummus, Roma tomatoes, marinated organic black beans, organic baby kale, and sunflower seeds. I left out the alfalfa sprouts and requested the garlic vinaigrette on the side. Each ingredient was fresh and tasty, particularly the sweet hummus and bold beans, but the falafel was a bit bland despite having a nice texture. I also tried some of the flash-fried Honey Brussels that had been drizzled with honey and topped with shaved Parmesan and sea salt, as well as the Sweet Potato Fries, both of which were crisp and flavorful. When it came time to pay the bill, we inquired about the possibility of splitting it on three cards. We were told this could easily be made possible through an app that they offered. They were correct that it was straight-forward and user-friendly, but they had not let us know that there was a platform fee attached to the transactions, a fact we did not learn until it was too late. Regardless, the food hit the spot and was decent enough to warrant a return visit if convenient.
