If you haven't been before, the vibe at Raising Cains is fun - think disco balls and Elvis art with a crown on top. The counter folks were all friendly, and I wasn't expecting that they would deliver food to our table, but they did. The food at Raising Cains was good, but didn't live up to all the hype for me. No complaints about the food, it was good. But my expectations were fairly high after hearing lots of folks talk about it. The chicken was crispy and not greasy as fried food can be. The fries were good -not soggy and not overcooked. I'm still assessing my thoughts about the sauce. I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed by the taste, but I did keep going back to it and dipping my fries and chicken in it until it was all gone. So maybe I liked it more than I realized? I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars. This was a 35 minute drive for me, so I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to do this again because of the distance. But we had a good meal here and a pleasant experience.

I knew exactly what I wanted, despite everything on the menu looking amazing. By the way, I will be back for the hot chicken. But I digress... I got a classic, and added cheese and bacon. I also ordered bacon cheese fries. The atmosphere of the place was so inviting and quaint I knew I had chosen the right place even before my food came. I hadn't eaten since breakfast so I was wildly ready for this meal. But nothing prepared me for what I saw when they called my name when my order was ready... I stuck my fork into the fries first, golden brown and smothered in bacon and cheese. The second my fork broke the surface, clouds of steam rose off, as they were piping hot. The burger, nestled in a half rap of chef's paper, screamed at me the dive into, which I did immediately. A few minutes and a few pictures in, I questioned whether I could finish everything but as you can see from the final photograph it was really never in question. That was the best spot to get some food to recharge, so I decided to take a walk down memory lane and get an Italian sub when I got off of work. The staff was inviting, and the place still looked and smelled the same as it did when I was a kid. There was plenty of meat on the sub with all the fixings, and of course, I complemented it with plain Middleswarth chips. Being from Pennsylvania, you have to eat it with Middleswarth chips! My mouth was drooling looking at the sub, even though the roll itself felt very hard. With the first bite, I went right down memory lane, sitting in my grandfather's green Ford Ranger. I scarfed it down, but well... I was disappointed. The bread was so hard that it almost scratched the roof of my mouth. The cheese was just bland, not bursting with flavor, and the salami and pepperoni slices had no flavoring to them at all. I think the only thing that saved it was the hot peppers that I added. To make matters worse, I also noticed the bathrooms were dirty, which is never a good sign. I also felt very slow and sluggish afterward. I don't think food is supposed to do that; food is supposed to give you energy, not slow you down. I do not recommend this place for a sub at all. I'd rather get one from a pizza shop or even Sheetz--and I think all Sheetz food tastes like cardboard, but that's just me. I hope my review helps you decide where to get your sub next!

There's a lot to consider with any Five Guys. The most important in this economy is the value of…read morethe food. I have considered a Five Guys burger as convenient comfort food and my go-to on business lunches that turn into business dinners. These are not cheap burgers. They are not bad burgers, either. They are a mix between the familiar fast food burger and the county fair fatburger one can get - both taste tantalizingly unhealthy but tasty. The fries are shoveled into every bag and are usually quite salty and good. I love that I can coat them with the burger topings that just overflow from under the soft bun. These are greasy, heavy burgers. I love a good burger, but the after-effects can be significant, so if you can tolerate carrying a third or half a pound of burger and fries for a while, that's great. If not, you may want to consider the lighter fare available around the center. Delivery means soggy bags. You roll the dice when placing an order. Cold Five Guys is not good. Soggy bags mean soggy fries. Beware. I don't get the peanuts, but they are free and piled up for the taking. So if you're a big fan of de-shelling free legumes, this is the place to hit up. The service has been hit or miss. It has never been terrible, but I've gone in on days it feels like the owner is watching from somewhere, and others where I feel like I'm interrupting a private party behind the counter. It is inconsistent, but I've never had that impact the quality of the product, just maybe how long it takes them between chats to move my order to the next step. If I find myself in the area, I pause before committing because the dine-in turnaround is often long, and it isn't exactly the most comfortable dining area. The dining room is a self-congratulatory gallery of how amazing Five Guys is through press clippings, customer comment cards, and reviews. My dudes, I am already in the restaurant, and you have my money. I don't need to read how awesome you think you are. Just prove it with the noms. The ugly bathroom/cafeteria aesthetic is not inviting. The chairs are uncomfortable. It's not ironically charming. It's just ugly. Overall, if you love sloppy burgers that taste like they are made by that neighbor in your cul-de-sac who KNOWS how to grill at a block party, this is a slightly over-priced but tasty option to capture that flavor. Just pretend that extra cost went into the mountain of fries you'll be digesting for the next week.

It is in a great place along Interstate 83. So why is it terrible? On my last travel route, it was a great place to grab a coffee and McSandwich on my way somewhere. But I begin thinking if there was a way I could order something I DIDN'T want just to guarantee they would make it the way I really wanted my order. Like if I was going to take home two Kid's Meals for my rottweillers and DIDN'T want pickles and onions on them (it makes them gassy), I might say, "Make sure you absolutely put 12 pickles on the burgers and a handful of onions!" I thought this kind of request would assure me of burgers without any of either. I never tested that theory because they gave me two cheeseburgers without meat. I didn't think this was possible. I've complained and have been given coupons for free meals. I guess the lesson is that they'd like me to continue getting things I can't or won't eat from them, but for free.
