Terribly slow service with attitude. 2 of our orders took forever to get made and when they were done they were wrong. I got attitude when I asked to have them remade properly. No manager walking around ensuring things in the lobby were good or checking on staff performance. The only polite welcoming staff member was a younger black guy running the front register, he was great. The rest of the staff were just there. I literally travel the country for my job and have never been to such a poorly run Panera in my life. They also had some dirty tables and an overflowing bin of dirty dishes by the trash. read more

This Panera was CLOSED. Drive-thru only. I had visited my parents on Labor Day & worked from their home on Tuesday morning. I drove over to Harrisburg since I have a fun work event over here on that Tuesday night and wanted to eat a healthy salad and WiFi at a Panera as I done before at various Panera locations. I first went to the location on High Pointe Road, and I was shocked that the door was locked and said drive-thru only. Then, I went to a second location here on 4263 Union Deposit Road, and they were drive-thru only! A woman in the parking lot was pissed (as was I) saying she went to 3 locations discovering they were closed. Going from my parents' house to two Paneras, I needed to figure out where I was going to eat in an area I'm unfamiliar with where I could WiFi. I wasted an extra almost 30 minutes getting off the PA-441 exit, driving up to Union Deposit exit to discover that location was closed too. I ended up crossing the freeway and discovered McDonald's, and you could sit inside. As I had said before, I wanted to get a salad, and guess what? McDonald's doesn't have salads anymore. I had no idea. That's a whole another issue, but they were open, nice, & nuggets were good. But unfortunately, I ate unhealthy. Again, Panera's fault as I was going to have a salad and my free iced coffee (with my monthly subscription)! Stopped by here for lunch on a Friday and didn't actually have to wait that long. I placed my You Pick 2 order at the counter (this Panera doesn't have touch screen kiosks) and only had to wait 5-10 minutes for my food to come out. I had half a turkey BLT sandwich and half a Thai Chicken salad. That half serving of salad was huge, although it was not a very good salad and had too much salad dressing. The sandwich was okay. Stopped there over the Labor Day weekend and it was absolutely awful! We were driving back from State College and wanted to grab something decent before getting on the turnpike at around 7:40PM. Being from near Philadelphia were most places are open til 10PM or maybe early ones at least 9PM it did not feel unduly late for a Saturday night. We saw the Panera sign and decided to stop there to get some dinner before finishing our trip on to Philadelphia. We ordered at the kiosk with no one greeting us, chose the DINE IN option and began to move towards the window to retrieve our food. Its then we noticed the store was in full closing mode. We passed the bakery as one young woman was furiously closing down and seemed to be sorting bread, cake etc. She never so much as looked up and then as we went further a young guy nearly ran a mop over my shoes as we tried to get ready to retrieve our food. At no point did not one person say hi, get out, hello to us as we made our way thru the place. I then pulled out my phone to realize the store was closing in 15 minutes. At this point just from the vibe I called out and told the guys getting our order together to just make it to go since we clearly were not welcome and they proceeded to turn their back and it seemed (though I could not be 100% sure) to be talking about us as now we were changing our order. I yelled out I was merely trying to "make it easy" since the entire restaurant seemed in "shut-down" mode. The guy to his credit did say the order was already near made and told us to have a seat which we did. As we took our seat to eat now quickly trying to finish so as to get out to let them close the manager (I believe the manager) came by I thought to assure us to take our time and not concern ourselves with the time (it was still 7:50PM) she instead felt the need to ask snidely "I hope your ok with being locked in" referring to the restaurant soon being locked. I have never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant in my life and we did so to pay nearly $35 dollars for a flatbread a wilted salad and lukewarm soup. This Panera bread gets four stars for being quiet and not crowded. My salad was ok but my broccoli cheddar soup was amazing. I didn't take any pics due to hunger but I would go back. Before I got my coffee machine, I used to hang at this Panera's for hours on the weekends for the endless cups of coffee (also sodas/iced teas, etc.) and wifi. Occasionally if I am traveling on business and need to meet up with coworkers or plug in, I always choose a Panera over a Starbucks. In addition, I actually really like the menu with my favorites being the Asiago Roast Beef sandwich, clam chowder, the little breakfast egg bakes and any one of the bagels. I went through the drive through and after the initial order, we waited 20 minutes in line. Upon getting to the window it took 3 corrections for the drink order to be done right. The $10 salads (eaten by the others who chose items within our order) were 90% romaine lettuce and there were a lot of croutons. Their salads were supposed to have chicken of which there was very little. Vegans beware, there's hardly anything on the menu- smoothies don't count as a meal and some have milk. Total order for a lot of lettuce and drinks plus a small vegan item was *very pricey*. I also recently traveled and tried to eat at a Panera but decided against it because of the high prices and lack of good options. What's happened to Panera? I used to go often enough. It used to be good, albeit a little pricey, but generally a good experience. I've been here twice and next to the Jonestown road location I have to say this is the worst of the 3 I go to. They take FOREVER to get food out to you and even longer with take out. So long that you think that they forgot you. And then when you approach to check they are all flustered and confused and you just want to run. The food is the same throughout - if they get it right. Check your bag or your tray to make sure you have everything before leaving. Because to go back and try to get what you're missing is just going to confuse them more and probably cause the next 15 people in line behind you to miss food. My bride frequents the Panera franchise so as I got my cherry popped during a visit here I've become a fanboy. Food we purchased was amazing and I loved the self-serve stations where I can refill my coffee and beverages. Are refills allowed? I have no clue but there was no sign that said otherwise so I assume with self-serve if no sign prohibits refills then I can refill. As a newbie I loved getting the plates for "to stay" service. Very disappointing, because I love the food at Panera Bread. The service here is really slow. I ordered a sandwich and a yogurt and it took over 20 minutes to get my order. When they called my name, only the sandwich was in the bag. When I asked for the yogurt, the employee told me he would have to make it. (There was only one employee preparing orders.) As with many chain restaurants, a Panera is a Panera no matter where you go, and the Harrisburg location doesn't disappoint when it comes to the staples of freshly baked goods (especially their French bread, my favorite fresh bread!) and sandwiches. Their combo deals are great - I typically order French Onion soup with a Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich (turkey, applewood-smoked bacon, Gouda cheese, and a tasty house sauce on Tomato Basil bread). When you first get your meal, at times I feel like the portion sizes are small with these "Pick 2" combos, but by the end of the meal I'm usually full (and there's a nice selection of pastries for desert if you're still hungry). Staff can be a little slow during peak mealtime hours, but in my experiences here, folks have been polite and respectful.
