Two belligerent, eye-rolling, ignorant teenage girls.* Not only were they taking everyone's orders incorrectly but they were so rude about it. When one customer asked why the server had a massive 'tude, she wiped her nose and said it was because she was sick. Uhh, excuse me, can someone get the health inspector on line 1? So she was coughing, wiping her nose, taking cash payments and then wrapping the fish and chips with her bare hands. Touching ALL the food. I nearly died myself. But it wasn't only the overwhelming sanitary issues, but the sheer disorganisation of the place. They served everyone who came in after us before us. We waited so long that my order was just sitting under the heat lamp for 20 minutes waiting for the rest of the food to be cooked. Another lady who came in after us, way after, demanded her money back. So I followed suit. And then nearly lost my shit London style on them. This place is so awful. * And I had been thinking earlier in the day how lovely all the Scottish wait staff were in another establishment.

We've tried the competition and frankly the Drift has the best beer and Scotch selection, food, and atmosphere. Inside it's a restaurant, outside it's a country pub with lots of well-spaced outdoor seating. It has the basics food-wise down pat. Huge fish and chips and excellent mussels - in the latter case just the right size between tasty and chewy. A great wine and beer selection and excellent service. The one down side was an overly-promised starter. Spending 15 quid on a few tiny bits of food artfully arranged stuck in the craw somewhat. But what the hell, they're nice people and the rest of it was superb.

The pub itself is kind of nautical/rugby themed and really cosy inside - there's a fireplace and lots of seating as well as some couches and a kids area. I ordered a bowl of Cullen Skink (Scottish haddock soup) as well as the Angler's Platter for one (Creeler's hot and cold smoked salmon, seafood and soft cheese mousse, fishcake and homemade bread). The soup was just delicious - I don't eat Cullen Skink enough and when I have one as good as this, I wonder why - thick, jam packed with fish and really tasty. I loved the platter too - the fish cake was the highlight for sure, but everything on it was so tasty and I loved how local it all was. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed grazing here for a while. They have a great booze selection but as I was driving I didn't have any - next time we visit I would definitely see about getting the bus or a taxi here from Brodick so we could get stuck into the gin! The teas and Illy Italian coffees are lovely and there's a selection of fresh cakes, or you could have a sandwich, panini or even a burger. There's a take-away menu as well and the prices are very reasonable. The service is very quick and friendly. My husband and I had a lovely chat with the young lady who was working in there today and she gave us some information about some of the walks in the immediate area. It's right next to paths through the woodland and past farms, and is a great place to stop off for a snack (as we did today)! There's a small car park right outside if you've arrived by car.

Just in case you're wondering, I do not carry ranch dressing in my purse, but if I ever moved back to the UK, I would definitely bring a supply.

This Farmhouse has two farmhouse Restaurants which is open Tuesday -Saturday, from 6.30pm onwards . closed sunday and Monday. It serves gorgouse home made, , traditional fresh seasonal produce. It does not have a drinks Licence so its a bring your own bottle, with no corkage charges. The restaurants have been running for more than 35 years, one seats 25 ppl, and the other 40 ppl.
