It was a Sunday afternoon in late December, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to rest and eat and enjoy Arran than here. The live music was fantastic (Anchorline and Friends), playing bits of what I assume was Scottish folk music, along with a bit of American folk as well. The atmosphere was lively and fun, service was excellent despite the hustle and bustle. Finally, the food and drink was exceptional as well! I had the burger with haggis (loved it) and my family all had different burgers/sandwiches with chips and salad, all got rave reviews. Topped off with great dessert (Hot Chocolate with a bit of Arran Gold for me, amazing). Can't express enough how great this place is, on a small island off the West coast of Scottland. I've travelled quite a bit, and it was truly one of my favorite experiences in the world, both this bar and the isle itself. Hopefully we'll find our way back soon!

On entering we found a local guy singing Elvis songs to the jukebox with a broom in his hands as a mike stand! We thought the usual - Here's a drunk!, but, no. He asked us very nicely if we had any requests and proceeded to play, and sing, them. After a few drinks it was our turn to request, and sing! By the end of the night, a singing group, booked to play in the nearby hotel had found they had no audience and come into the Ardview to join in! The selection of drinks was excellent considering the problems of getting stocks (apart from malt whiskies, of course!) and we were accepted as part of the family within a very short time. The next day, locals were stopping to talk in the street and say how much they'd enjoyed the night - yet it was down to them! Magical!

We were in for just a drink but the food menu sounds really good - I think this pub is related to Brodick Bar as they had signs advertising each other. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, and the decor is relaxed without being crappy. It was really quiet on a Saturday morning but it's off season on the island and they'd just opened. I'm not sure we'd make a special trip to go back, but like I said, it's at the pedestrian entrance to Brodick Castle so worth a stop in.

It's a small pub but with bar stools plus a few tables and normal-sized chairs. There's a flat screen TV on the wall. However, we couldn't wait to leave because of the loud music which made conversation impossible. I did ask the pleasant bar staff to turn it down, which they did, but it was still far too loud. There was only one other person in the bar who didn't seem to care whether music was on or off. I'm afraid we won't bother to return here but we'll try somewhere else the next time we're in West Kilbride.
