Burger Joint is basically a burger speakeasy at the Thompson Hotel, and after visiting the one in Singapore years ago (no longer open), I finally made it to the mother store in NYC. The concept and ambiance were very similar although this location is much larger and has very high ceilings. It's dark and there are no windows, so focus is on the burgers and fortunately, they are very solid. The burgers start around $14 but they are good sized, perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Staff here is great too, and it was the perfect place for a second supper after a broadway show.

Wow, I had not been here in over ten years, but I had been in the Industry City location in Brooklyn. It was good there, as I remember, and this was at least as good, but the price tag, $26 bucks with tax for a burger with a sde of fries for lunch, was hard to swallow, and I paid cash. They had since moved and were now in the former Norma's Restaurant space up the stairs from the lobby of the hotel. I had to ask the hotel front desk to direct me. The burger was great as were the thin crispy french fries. The "decor" had not changed, bit these digs are now quite a bit roomier than before. Overall a fun experience.

I axxidently found Burger Joint about 18 years ago when I was trying to get in from the cold with my 2 children in tow. It was.i. a different hotel at that time. I went to see the tree with my hubby on January 3rd and remembered the Burger Joint. I remembered the burgers were delicious 18 years ago and was surprised the decor is the same and the burgers just as delicious. It's a bit pricey but we'll worth it. The burgers are tasty and juicy. It's like a fast food place establishment but tastes nothing like fast food. I won't wait another 18 years before returning. Especially now there is one in Brooklyn!

Decided to stop in here for a burger during a recent trip. It was actually a little hard to find at first and we went up and down the street a few times and then inside the building before we saw a sign right before we were about to leave with an arrow. The place is cute. We got our order in and it came out pretty fast. The burger was great and so were the fries. Hot and fresh! We'd check it out again.

Had a taste for a really good burger (plant based), the first place that came to mind was the Burger Joint. Soon as I walked into the new location, felt like old times seeing the amazing staff Tee, Jeff, and Mikey! The food is great, despite the prices are insanely higher than the old location. The new location is bigger, can accommodate more people. Just does not have the same nostalgia as the old location. With that being said, I will continue to patronize the Burger Joint, they are a hidden institution that if you know, you knew that was the go to spot, back in the day before hitting the Manhattan club, or bar scene....oh the memories.

Although no longer as hidden as it once was, the burgers and shake at burger joint were excellent. My complaint though is that it was extremely expensive for what it was. 13 dollars for a milkshake is very hard to justify. The food was great but had it not been in our hotel, I would not pay again for this meal because of the pricing.

Talk about a hidden gem! Unless you know, you'd never know even if you were sitting in the lobby. Let me start by saying that I love burgers. I used to eat them 1000 different ways, at least one or two a day. Until 1993, when I stopped eating red meat. About 5 or 10 years ago, I began to allow myself no more than about a pound of red meat a year Now, maybe two or three. So when I eat red meat, it has to be better than good. I was told this is the place for me. I found it behind the red curtains. Shocked at its real existence, and the quirky, bohemian style of the build out, I focused rapidly on the grill. I saw these thick, juicy burgers, and knew that chances were high as to my making the right choice. I ordered a burger, naked, medium rare. In less than 5 minutes, with just a dab of ketchup and mustard, I bit into this little piece of heaven. Perfectly cooked, great texture and flavor, and to top it off, the staff had the best attitudes. Not one, but all of them. I had to spend about 10 minutes chatting with the cooks. The menu was broader than just beef burgers. They have chicken, vegetarian, fries, wine and beer, and more. Menu is in the pics. Don't tell too many about it, but don't miss it. Trust me, it's worth every excuse!

A basic burger that you'd have at your friend's really good summer BBQ. The price doesn't reflect the quality, a lil steep. I got the cheeseburger. The meat is good, but all the toppings and bun are completely average, feel store-bought. You come here for the unique history and vibe. I love the writings on the wall and the character of the inside.

Read the reviews and despite some of the comments had to come check it out. Definitely a hidden , hip vibe in the back of the lobby of a hip hotel. The decor is a throwback to the old CBGB or The Pyramid Club. Graffiti walls and booths along the wall. Here are the stars. The shakes are really great you can't go wrong. The fries both regular and sweet potato are also worth a mention. Here is what is very good..but not the star. The burgers are really good... I would have loved to say great !! But they are worth their price. Nothing here is cheap but comparable to most places in this area. I would definitely go back.... there are many places where you can't get a very good burger for the same price. Also... service is quick and nice.

We had the luxury of staying at The Thompson Central Park in NYC last month and of course had to stop behind the red curtain for a taste of the Burger Joint. Overall? It's a good burger. They have several varieties of burger to choose from and a HUGE bag of french fries exactly as I like them - shoestring and deep fried crispy. But I definitely have had a better burger. It was tasty, and they have Stella Artois on tap (which is always my go to when enjoying a burger)... but it wasn't anything I'd go out of my way to eat again. Thumbs down on the burger bun, which fell apart quickly. The ambience is fun, with lots of graffiti on the walls of past guests, and the service was fast - although you may have trouble locating a place to sit if you arrive at the wrong time of day.

Place was fine. At this point you're paying for the ambiance of the 'secret'. Competent cheeseburger with the right 'works', good amount of shoestring fries in an order for splitting, just no where near the cheap late night haunt it used to be (and not even in the same spot as the more storied days). Worth checking out, but last trip had more foreign tourist groups doing that than anything else.

Not a tasty burger, friendly staff, cool looking restaurant I like that it is hidden inside a luxury hotel but the burgers & fries are flavorless.

The Burger Joint is trendy and a fair burger, at a fair price. Little tricky to find but, worth the search.

For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. Plus I kept finding myself checking out the mural on the wall. Try it for yourself - but worth the fight to get a table.

We loved it so much we went back and second time for dinner. The first night we sat at the bar (it was crowded and we didn't have reservations) and made some friends who recommended Ivan's (the bartender) espresso martinis. Although we were drinking some white wine we decided after finishing those we would try them. Ivan makes them special with a little Bailey's! They were incredible! Like a dessert but not too sweet. Ivan shared his recommendations with us and we had some good conversation. We ordered a pasta dish with shrimp and Brussels salad as well. All very tasty. A couple of nights later we went back and had the rigatoni with red sauce which was phenomenal and our favorite and the Toscana salad, also great. The pastas taste homemade and everything is so fresh, including the bread. We of course ordered espresso martinis again and Ivan thought it might be us again and came by to say hi. He makes the restaurant feel like family! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in my next visit. It is now my favorite restaurant in New York! Thank you so much Ivan!

I sat at the bar and ordered a simple pasta with red sauce, some meatballs, and broccolini. The pasta was perfectly al dente and absorbed the red sauce nicely. I appreciate that I was not offered grated cheese or fresh ground pepper. It was served as the chef intended, showing off the tomatoes, accented only by the herbs and spices. It was not too oily either, if anything it could have had a touch more, but again this let the tomatoes come through. The pork and beef. meatballs are dense and served in a thickened tomato sauce. The bread that comes with it is nice for finishing that gorgeous sauce which does have a sprinkling of parm. The broccolini had a a touch of garlic and served with a lemon. You can judge a restaurant by its guests. The other solo diners beside me were locals, there for the food. Next time I'll try the vodka sauce with burrata.
