I'm so happy to be able to be the first Yelp Elite to review this little burger joint, because I…read morehad such a great experience. I stopped in around 2:30 on a Monday, which is typically a slow hour for restaurants. So, I was not at all surprised when I was greeted with, "Just to give you a heads up, we are out of chicken and chimichurri sauce." As I've written about extensively in other reviews, I've worked in restaurants for most of my life. No matter how great everyone is at their jobs, sometimes, the restaurant runs out of ingredients, for a variety of reasonable reasons. Right? And let's be real: it's a good thing to run out of things. This is a sign of a fresh ingredient supply. A restaurant that never runs out of anything is suspicious. Well, I seem to have walked in on an actual Karen ripping the young adult female cashier to verbal shreds over the chicken shortage. However, I was not aware of this until after she left, because when I walked in, she went silent, glared at the cashier for a minute, and then stormed out. I was thinking, "What the F was that about?" And to be fair, the workers did not discuss it loudly, but I sat near the kitchen and eavesdropped, because I wanted to know. Anyway, I ordered the Mac Daddy, which came with a smash patty, Mac and cheese, and all the normal burger toppings. As I waited for my burger, I noticed that BUM stands for Big Ugly Messy. I thought... we'll see. Big? Yes, a little bigger than average. Much more substantial than anything you'd get from McDonald's, for example. Ugly? Not really, no... not until I got into it, and the bread fell apart because it was so fresh. Messy? Yes. A fork was required to finish off all the mac and cheese that fell out during the course of consumption. The smashburger was perfect, and that's the most important thing. Above all else, I look for the caramelized smashed patty. The better the Maillard, the higher my rating. Five stars for the Maillard. The Mac and cheese was decent. Enough to add the right flavor to the burger without overpowering it. The rest of the ingredients were fresh. As I was eating, a wealthy couple, who seemed to have never eaten food this cheap before, entered the restaurant. Having worked in a private country club for many years, I immediately recognized them as uber-rich. The lady happened to be wearing the EXACT same shirt that Patricia McCloskey was wearing during her infamous altercation in St. Louis. "It's your birthday!" The man announced to the whole restaurant. "Go ahead honey, have a burger!" I was thinking, "Oh, my, God, I am definitely adding this anecdote to my Yelp review." After quizzing the cashier regarding what came on each burger, and learning how "combo meals" work, they each decided to order the same thing: the classic American burger combo. How daring and fun. The man directed his wife to set her things down on the booth in the very back, to which she whispered something, and he loudly boomed, "No one's going to take our stuff." I was thinking, "Well, you've basically just announced that you have stuff worth taking." I looked around to see who she was suspicious of. Aside from myself, there were two workers in the kitchen, and a young, well-dressed Latino couple holding hands and praying in the booth furthest away from them. Was I being profiled for being poor, or was the young religious couple being profiled for being Latino? I accidentally laughed out loud at the rich lady before intentionally flashing all the money in my wallet at her, picking out a few bills, and depositing them in the tip jar on my way out. I was not expecting so much entertainment with my meal. Five stars for the food, plus an extra five because, in the words of the cashier, "I'm still trying to process what just happened?"

I wasn't certain what to order off the menu, but whether you're a simple hamburger human or a complicated individual, they had a little bit of everything for everyone. When they brought out my whole two trays of both chicken and cheeseburgers (with a fried egg I might add!) they said they took their time and patience to make the best quality lunch they could for me. I was aghast by the professionalism as well as the personal customer service I was offered...but the FOOD!! You've never eaten a fresher burger! I wouldn't even call it "over seasoned" but the burger patty's always tastes concerningly like body odor. It's a strong, pungent taste. Last night will for sure be my last time going. I got a plain cheeseburger thinking the issue before was the sauces or vegetables: nope, armpit burger strikes again. But the real kicker here wasn't even the burger.. it was the fries. They tasted like cigarette butts. I'm not being dramatic or reaching in the slightest. My fiancé tried one and I said "does this taste like cigarettes smoke to you?" And he said "oh wow, yeah, wow that's spot on". So here's my thing: be cautious. For something to taste that spot on means it's either being processed near someone smoking cigarettes or they're purposely putting something in them. This is deeply concerning and I hope people stop spending their money here until they hire new staff.
