I have liked…read moreeverything I've tried, but would say that the standouts are their fries and the fried chicken sandwich. It's a relatively new restaurant that is still finding its footing (the decor and indoor environment are slowly evolving, the menu will grow every now and then, etc.), but the food has always been solid. The pricepoints are probably higher than a lot of college students would prefer to be paying, but still reasonable. The burgers are good, the fried chicken sandwiches are excellent, and the fries are some of the best in town in my opinion. All of the meat is halal, so it's been a great place to visit with my friends who can only eat halal food. Black Salt is owned and operated by the same guy who opened FOAM-O, and he definitely has a clear vision for what he wants it to be. I'm a fan of the place, and think its worth checking out for those who haven't yet!

They don't have too many options on the menu, which is completely okay. I decided to go with a burger, which I found to be tasty, but not worth the relatively high cost. I probably will not be back.

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!

Reserve well in advance during football weekends or special events, such as graduation week. We enjoyed the Tuscan Tortellini ($23): shrimp and chicken sautéed in garlic with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach, herb sauce, cheese tortellini with basil and parmesan. Two of us split the tasty three-lamb-chop special for $36. Several nearby booths were enjoying the Southern Ribs ($23 ): seven slow-cooked, then crispy-fried pork ribs in a BBQ sauce, served with pimento mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and vegetable du jour. In addition to the dinner entrées ($20-$32) and specials ($40), Lefty's has dinner sandwiches under $14 and dinner burgers under $15. Plus flatbread pizzas, $14. Wines by the glass from $8 to $10.50. 24 beers on tap. Cocktails are $9 to $11. Service is fast, efficient, and mostly friendly (ours got a little snippy when we asked about a cocktail order that was slow to arrive, but it was a busy graduation night). Dependable on all counts; we'll be back.

There are lockers in the entryway, and little throwbacks to academic life here and there. I could never get a glass of wine at my elementary school, though. So Feather Bone is way cooler. These guys have an interesting setup. You have to order your alcohol at the bar, separately from your food, and they will bring it to you. I can't tell if it's because the bar and the restaurant are two separate entities, or what. When I visited, it was with a big group, so we got a bunch of things for the table. I think the start of the meal was the pimento cheese board, which came with crackers, pickles and slaw, plus some colorful vegetables. I had never had anything like it! I'm not usually a pickled veg gal, but they went really well with the soft and slightly spicy cheese. Plus, this appetizer is very pretty. Equally impressive were the Bang Bang Brussels -- roasted Brussels sprouts with a chili crisp vinaigrette and sesame shallot crunchies on top. Leaves of Thai basil and cilantro covered the top. This dish went really fast at our table. Another star: the focaccia and miso butter. Sometimes, a simple slice of bread and butter will be just the perfect thing. This one is amazing. I got the fried chicken, because I heard that it is one of Feather Bone's specialties. It was super crunchy and deeply brown, and came with gravy and hot honey to dip it in. Other things that people at my table ordered that they loved: the pork chop (comes with apple sauce gravy and a fennel salad); the World's Best Cookie (not bad); banana pudding (good, but had too much stuff on it, like a caramel drizzle and cookie crumbs). Feather Bone is a fun place to find comfort food, and it's great for big groups.

Located in the old Prices Fork Elementary School, the atmosphere is unique. I appreciate that they incorporate aspects of the school into the experience. For instance, the dining space is in the schools old gym and the table paddle you receive after you order are alphabet cards. The ambiance is super laid back and I love that you order at the front and they'll bring the food out to you. This makes the experience so much more enjoyable as it not a table-service type of place. You can also order drinks at the front and they will bring those out to you as well. Ordering is super straight forward. They offer a great menu with options for all, including gluten sensitive people. I appreciate their eclectic take on standard American/Southern faire. As their food is bursting with unique flavors that are not like ones you'll find elsewhere in the area. All the food is freshly prepared and ours came out within 10-15 minutes of ordering. We ordered a lot, as I wanted to try a little bit of everything! To start, we got the Pimento Cheese Board and the Bang Bang Brussels. Both of which were a large size and perfect for sharing. The Pimento Cheese Board consisted of home-made pimento cheese, crackers, house pickles, and apple slaw. Everything on this plate was extremely fresh and flavorful. The pimento cheese had a great consistency and I appreciated the subtle inclusion of the red peppers. The apple slaw was fresh, and the various pickled vegetables were a nice palette cleanser. My parents have claimed the Brussel sprouts here were some of the best they'd had-- and I can easily confirm these were the best brussel sprouts I've had! The Brussel sprouts are cooked to perfection and topped with Chili crisp vinaigrette, yum-yum sauce, and a sesame shallot crunch. They are truly something else and a trip to Feather Bone wouldn't be complete without ordering these! I also order 2 pieces of their focaccia which came with miso butter. The focaccia was cooked on the griddle and was warm when it was served. The miso butter was a little too salty for my liking, but I enjoyed putting some of the pimento cheese on the focaccia! For my entree I actually ended up ordering a baby smash burger, which is a kids meal (as I couldn't commit to a full size entree). This meal included a smaller, slider version of their smash burger, served with fries, apples slices, and the option of a drink. I was blown away with how good the burger was, seriously one of the best! The burger was seasoned wonderfully, with a nice char on the edges (the way a smash burger should!). The cheese was gooey and the bun was really, really good. Fries were crips and were also seasoned well. I would easily order this again, just maybe the adult portion! I also tried my mom's hanger steak and the mushroom polenta (special of the night) and thoroughly enjoyed that. The steak was tender, with lots of flavor and the mushroom polenta was quite tasty as well! I appreciate that they frequently have food and drink specials too. Overall, I can easily say that this was the best meal I have had in Blacksburg--and I have lived here my entire life. A common thing among all the food we ordered was flavor. Everything had so much flavor, was seasoned so well, and was super unique. They really elevate the standard southern cuisine into something quite spectacular. I have zero complaints about anything we ordered. The bang bang Brussel sprouts were a hit, along with the pimento cheese board. I love the ambiance of this place too. If you are ever in the area, make this place a priority. You will not be left disappointed!
