Lovely brewery with AMAZING Rock fish & chips!! We were visiting from Las Vegas, NV & remembered our 1st outstanding experience here in 2021. Too bad Buoy moved their location to a non-water view part of Astoria. Despite the relocation, the service was still top-notch. And I also appreciated how they offered a kids menu!! We stayed across the street from here and we were looking for a bite to eat for lunch after we arrived in astoria. The business is located on the main strip so parking could be difficult. The inside is a nice size, and there are a few tables out front. We decided to go with the salmon BLT, which was a wild salmon fillet, pepper bacon, lettuce, tomato, bun, tarter sauce, pickle for $18 and shrimp cocktail for $12. Also, I got a delicious drink. i think a margarita if I remember correctly! The shrimp were some of the best shrimp I've ever had in my life!! Bouy cream ale is by far one of my favorite beers so why were in town we had to stop! Now I know the old location had a collapse which we got to see on the train ride. The new location is very open, well lite and very clean. Over all the food was good but felt a tad overpriced. The food did come out fast though and was delicious. The only weird thing I have to say is the staff was weird about my choice of beer. They only have it in the can which was fine as I was willing to just have them put it in the glass. I didn't ask for recommendation nor was I indecisive but they did try to persuaded me multiple times to try a different beer. Even when I said I was good with the cream ale they still asked another two times. Other than that staff was super friendly. Our twin 8 year old boys had the hamburger and PB&J which both come with chips, my wife had the Fish-Wich and I had the Salmon BLT with the Bouy IPA ( which was pretty good), we had curly fries with our sandwiches which was an extra $2 per order, it's not typical restaurant, you go to the counter to order and then a server/expediter brings out your food, refills you have to go up to the counter and they do not have fountain soft drinks it's all in cans or bottles except the iced tea. We got a beer flight: NV Red Pacific Pale Ale Big Brock Hunter - Hellesbock Wally's Tonic - Vienna Lager Atmosphere - Indoor/outdoor seating with one fire pit. Beautiful views of the water. We were able to see and hear seals from the dock. Inside the business, there was a portion of the floor made of glass so you are able to see the water and docks under the building. Under construction. A 90+ year old cannery being converted to a brewery. Kid friendly, dogs welcomed on the patio. Service - Counter service. Price - $20 + tip. Each tasting beer is $3. We Felt isolated and treated differently possibly because of our skin color :( and no lie that's how my family felt like when left that place We were the only Asians in that restaurant who came to visit and almost all of them were caucasians. We have nothing against any colors but we really felt unwelcome and not to mentioned was treated very awkwardly. The lady who helped us sat us down was quite nice but the rest of the server and whoever else helped us that day passed us around like we were nothing. We originally have a lady server who helped us aggressively that day and you can tell from her face that we are not welcomed at all. She looked irritated or somehow aggravated that we are even there. Mind you we came before the rushed of people and it's not even dinner yet we were there around 3pm ordered right away and almost an hour from the order there were no signs of any check ups or anyone. We had to ask for ourselves what's going on and so the lady that probably helped us said you got a new server and us here thinking maybe she's leaving for the day , but nope looked like she switched with someone in the bar behind us so it felt like she didn't even want to serve us. She just mentioned your new server is the tall guy with a hat and didn't even tell us their name. On top of waiting forever I approached her asking what's the update in our order because we looked stupid staring at each other for that long and have to pretty much do things in order to get served. The lady even argued with us that my cousin ordered a bowl of chowder when she completely told the server when she was repeating our order that she want to just have it as an add on and forget the bowl because it was much more cost effective that way. She just disregarded us and walked away and just said I'll go and removed it and specifically made us feel like we're in the wrong and that she was doing us a favor which she was not even apologetic for misunderstanding my visitor who just came from Maui and my cousin whose first time going to Oregon so this was such a very bad experience. On top of that, after the lady who switched us with another server messed up our order, so the new guy who doesn't want to provide their name just says I don't know I'll bring the original server and it was a whole mess I tell ya (why couldn't just helped us in the first place instead of switching) maybe she couldn't handle serving the Asian brown colored (this is from our experience that day and didn't say she a racist but she did made us feel that way). She avoided us like a plague . We remained calmed and even still left tip even after being treated so badly and when we're just getting up the chair and leaving.....the last server who helped us jokingly ask if anyone needs a job that they are hiring and repeated himself saying that. Is that even a joke or was he formal because we felt insulted like we need to do their job for them like seriously we usually don't complain about restaurant, but I did give them one star for their clam chowder at least . Overall, we are never ever coming back nor referring/ suggesting this place to anyone. They still overcharged us and according to my bestfriend who ordered the Rosemary drink it was watered down and taste nothing like it should be. We came up to see a few iconic movie places, and decided to grab a bite to eat. This place was big and lowkey, which we gravitated towards. We both ordered the rockfish and chips. The rockfish was my favorite of the fish and chips we've had this far! It had a lighter batter which made it extra crunchy. The tartar was good, but not mind blowing. Buoy brews a much wider selection than what you find in stores. Do yourself a favor and stop in. I had the decapitator for lunch and had a nice nap on the way back to Portland. Astoria continues to get popular and grow, I am not a beer person but you can never go wrong with a good place to eat, and if I can find a good porter or stout then I am in if they do not carry cider. We stopped in on our way back to Portland taking the scenic route to grab some lunch. Great location next to the river where we had a wonderful view. Nice place in the center of the room has a glass view of the sea lions under the building hanging out. We really enjoyed the wide open space and the view while we were there. They also have a nice bar and lots of outdoor seating. In the summer they can open the main windows to the river side and I bet it is amazing. The food was tasty (and here is why a four) the burger I had well I swear smaller than a burger you get on your 1/4 lb from the McD's. I expected a burger that was A REAL BURGER. The beer I had was good, the fries we had we also very good. If the burger was impressive and what you would expect from a place like this then five stars would be a no brainer. I will say it is still very worth coming here, just choose your food wisely as most of the other food looked normal in size for what you would expect, but come on the burger guys. read more

Brewpub by the riverfront in Astoria. Pretty popular place on a Friday afternoon. They had it divided into 3 areas: a sit-down dining area with table service, the indoor taproom and an outdoor area with shelfs hanging on railings to put your drink/food, and a window to order food and beer. Was a nice afternoon, so I opted for the last option and ordered at the window, so I can eat and drink with a view of the Columbia River. Got a pint of the Dunkel Lager, and the rockfish fish & chips. I liked the lager; have a bit of the chocolatey sweetness to it. The fish and chips was decent, with 4 pieces of fried rockfish. The fries were alright. Enjoyed my meal while looking out onto the waters. Beer was $6 and fish and chips was $15. Not cheap but not expensive either. read more

Boy, oh BUOY do I like this spot! I was craving clam chowder and a lobster roll after my drive from WA, and this was the closest thing to it. Street parking was easy on a Friday during lunchtime, and the vibe was chill as could be. I walked to the back to check out the beverage selections, and I was offered the Around the Buoy and Buo-hooey! Smoked Helles beers to try. I liked the latter because it had a unique smokiness to it, but ended up opting for the apple cider ($5/can) to complement my meal. For my meal, I got: * shrimp roll, sub clam chowder for kettle chips ($19)- it was stuffed to the max, but the filling had too many herbs for my taste :( couldn't taste the shrimp as well. The clam chowder was creamy, but it wasn't anything stellar, I think. *apple fritter: ended up having this the next day. Wished there was more apple filling in the fritter, but it was tasty. I stumbled across Buoy Beer in my hometown grocery store. I liked the name and bought the six pack. I'm glad I did. The IPA was wonderful. I was happy to learn they weren't to far away from home. So, on this summers motorcycle vacation, we had a layover in Astoria, so we had to hit the brewery. It was a fun spot with a great selection of beer. COVID review: I came here during summer 2020 on a weekend road trip. In the front of the brewery, we were able to put our names on a wait list and there as plenty of space in the front to wait outside. When our name was called, that's when you can go in line to place an order and then find a seat. We were lucky enough to find a seat right along the water. Me and my fiancé enjoyed our beers from Buoy. I got their fish & chips, which was good and the fish was nice and crispy. Wow! This place is awesome! It was also completely full on a random Thursday afternoon in October so word about this place's popularity has clearly gotten out. (Full in a Covid safe way by the way. Everything was socially distanced and felt extremely clean. I felt very spaced out and safe the whole time there.) The people working there are so incredibly nice and on top of everything. You finish a glass and someone is right there to grab it. They work hard circulating to make sure anyone who wants a seat can get one. I was very impressed. The drink options were great! There is plenty of beer on draft to choose from. I tried the drink special - a twist on a Hot Toddy since I was cold and it was reasonably priced and delicious. We didn't order any food, but what was coming out of the kitchen looked delicious and smelled good. The ambiance was top notch. You are right on the water so the views are incredible. We ordered the fish sandwich which had more breading than fish. The other was the shrimp salad sandwich. The bread was fabulous but the shrimp salad was okay. Really small shrimp, maybe that is normal, but not much of a taste. We also got oysters which were served in shot glasses with cocktail sauce. Oyster shooters. Those were really good. Considering they are located on the water, I was definitely expecting better food. Taproom a block off the river walk in a converted warehouse. It's a big space with an uncrowded feel. The menu is pretty small, though they had a nice set of specials the day we were there. The beer is wonderful - clean, crisp, clear and flavorful. I had the Wry Lager which is one of my favorite styles and they did a really nice job of it. I ordered the rockfish and chips, my wife had the cheese curds, from Ellsworth Wisconsin, a cheese plant that my wife used to call on back in the day! They were both superb. The fish and chips was perfectly battered and the fish was wonderful. The cheese curds were fresh, nicely battered and came with a nice sauce. I grew up eating cheese curds at the Wisconsin State fair, and I thought the Buoy Beer curds were some of the best I've had. 4 stars for two reasons: limited menu, and the view could be better. They need to reverse the layout of the building and have the taproom windows overlook the harbor. read more

An amazing spot if you're visiting Astoria. The view is stunning, looking over the harbor, plus kids love the seals and seal lions that just hang around under the docks. They are definitely Quarantine friendly, as they are limited to just out door seating, and they have an established system to insure that every table is wiped down in between patients. The staff are generally pretty friendly here and the prices are quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend their Rockfish and chips. The batter is light and crispy while the fish inside still maintains that moist flaky interior unlike other fish and chip locations that end up feeling dry. Similarly their cheese curds are fried beautifully being crispy on the outside but still having a cheesy pull to them. read more
