    Zuppa Di Pesce

It's a quaint little restaurant in Closter NJ. A group of my girlfriends and I enjoyed our holiday dinner here last Friday night. The bread was nice and warm. The grilled calamari special appetizer was excellent. Most of us ordered either the branzino, zuppa de pesce, or chicken parmigiana. They were all great dishes. The servers were friendly. There isn't much of a late night crowd, our reservation was at 6:30 pm and we finished around 9 pm, and were next to the last table to finish the night there. The restaurant is BYOB, we had brought some excellent white and red wines and a bottle of port from Portugal to enjoy before calling it a night. We all had a lot of fun.

The service here is impeccable. The chef and owner is engaged in the experience of his customers. The food is outstanding. Locally sourced and freshly made to order, truly some of the best Italian food I have ever had. The endive salad was classic and simple with a vinaigrette and some local organic tomatoes. A spring salad was another treat. But my favorite was the lobster ravioli. It came with a white sauce and a dollop of the red marinara sauce in the middle so you can make your own cream sauce. It was decadent and delightful. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Bathrooms are clean as well and a small parking lot for free parking. (I don't know if that's normal for the area but everywhere else I've been recently in NY and NJ is paid parking.) Go try it out!

Always a good experience at Buongiorno Gusto. The staff is accommodating, and the food always delicious. The decor is old-school Italian style. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. There's a parking lot and street parking, and don't forget that it's BYOB.

PROS: The staff is very friendly and the food is amazing! They have fresh food, priced well, and have a good variety. They seem to have a lot of regulars and they take reservations. CONS: There is hardly any parking on the street and the place is in desperate need of renovation OVERALL: I would highly recommend coming here again since the food and service are both really good

A year has passed and looking at recent reviews I saw Donatella was seeming better. Last night, 3/14, my wife and I took a chance and tried it again. Happily, it was great. The noise level is still moderate but they now have a wonderful manager, Fabian, who is keeping the kitchen, bar, and service up to high levels . We had a Hugo Spritz and Sidecar to drink and both good, in fact, my wife said the Hugo was like what see had in Sicily except they used lemon and not lime ( they brought lime out). We ordered, the stuffed artichoke, Pollo Portofino, Vitello Barese and tiramisu for dessert. The artichoke was the best we ever had, like old times. The Portofino was made with smoked mozzerella, as it should be and in the recent past was not. I did not try the veal, my wife remarked it was a bit chewy. The tiramisu was good. Our server was both pleasant and attentive. Food was promptly served. At the meals conclusion, they brought out some amaretto with a coffee bean. A thoroughly enjoyable meal. Definitely will be dining there again.

We began with the seafood salad...a delicious mix of tender squid, scungilli, octopus, and shrimp over lightly dressed arugula. It was a beautiful portion and paired perfectly with their warm focaccia and garlic infused olive oil. Then came the complimentary salads before the best grilled lamb chops entrée I've had in years. Outstanding. A full rack of tender, flavorful, juicy baby rib chops served with broccoli rabe and roasted potatoes. OMG. While devouring this meal, I was a bit without words. Did I mention it was a full rack?! We also enjoyed a bottle of their house Cabernet with dinner. Very smooth and a solid table wine for the price. It paired beautifully with the lamb, and the other entree we got...homemade fresh pasta with short rib ragu. Wow... that really was the best entrée I've had anywhere in a long time, and it puts Bosfa in my top three restaurants. P.S. Sign up for their rewards program!

As soon as you walk in, you will notice the classy, chic décor of the dining area; it gives off old Hollywood vibes. The seating is tight and the restaurant is on the smaller side, so I recommend making a reservation as it can get busy. The hostesses and servers are friendly, attentive, and personable. I always end up having good conversations with my server haha. As soon as I sit down, I'm already in a good mood because their complimentary bread served with olive oil and butter is to die for! During all of my past visits, I've never been disappointed with a dish. They have specials so there's always something new to try on the menu. Just a heads up, they are BYOB! These are some of my personal favorites: -Chicken Francese ($23.95) - The chicken cutlet is so tender, and the chefs get the francese sauce just right. It's a perfect balance of white wine, lemon, butter, and egg. You have the option of adding one free side: (1) potatoes and vegetables OR (2) pasta (angel hair, penne, rigatoni). -Pasta Limon ($31.95) - HEAVENLY... This dish consists of angel hair pasta in a creamy sauce that's a combination of lemon, parmesan, and butter. It comes with chicken and shrimp. -Fig di Sicilia Pizza ($17.95) - This has always been my #1 favorite appetizer, but sometimes it tastes better than other days. When it's made to my liking, it's basically a thin flatbread topped with mozzarella, fig marmalade, prosciutto, and arugula. This appetizer is the reason why I started eating figs LOL -Cannoli - These are HUGE and their ricotta filling is absolutely delicious! I have to roll myself out the door after eating here! Good thing I work out.

The appetizers we ordered were perfect shareable bites and so delicious. The homemade focaccia was light and crispy. Perfectly toasted! This comes at the start of your meal for all of the tables. I loved the fried calamari, burrata and prosciutto, and the pear salad. I was most intrigued with the mussel flatbread appetizer. It was topped with a light buttery sauce and garlic. Very good! The meatballs were also a standout for me. In addition to an amazing start to my meal, I loved the cocktail options. From various spritz choices to Negronis, you can tell the cocktail menu was carefully crafted. Verana is known for the best chicken parmigiana. Not only did this dish deliver, but the portion size was unreal. Some of my dining party finished it. However, I have amazing leftovers for today. You have an option to get a side of homemade pasta. I went with the spaghetti. All pasta dishes are made from scratch. Other honorable mentions include the pasta normica and bolognese. Moving on to the sweet dessert options! The cappuccino's had a nice and bold coffee flavor. The pistachio gelato and apple tart were music to my ears! So fresh and really hits any sweet tooth. The tiramisu had a nice pairing of coffee flavor and cinnamon. My first dining experience at Verana will definitely not be my last. I think I finally found a spot where I can confidently get good pasta AND dessert. My partner and I stopped in this week, and we were immediately met with cool, industrial-style decor and a BOMB playlist. The staff was super friendly and helped a lot with specials and recommendations, as it was our first time. For drinks, we started with a Fig & Melon cocktail and their Old Fashioned. Both were great, but I think the old-fashioned wins over the Fig & Melon. It's smoky and sweet, while the F&M was citrusy and refreshing. To start, we ordered the Mozzarella Sticks Di Bar Mutz with Mutz Hot Honey & Sour Milk. Personally, I am tired of hot honey on everything, haha, so this wasn't for me. If they served it on the side first vs drizzled on top, I probably would have enjoyed it more, as the mozz sticks alone were delicious. The breading was more like a garlic bread than the traditional coating. It also comes with extra hot honey on the side. For our mains, we shared the Spicy Rig and Trottole. Again, both are really good, but the Trottole was the CLEAR winner. The short rib was rich, and the overall dish was perfect for the savory lover like me. The Spicy Rig was lighter, and the bite of pasta with basil was excellent. For dessert, we ordered the mile high espresso martini, affogato martini, which had ice cream they make in-house, and the Samoas cheesecake. Every single thing was delicious! It's a good problem to have when you're dining somewhere, and you're battling it out for who has the best dish. Can't wait to come back and bring friends!
