I can't say that I enjoyed dining here in early May (5/3/2025). It was difficult to decide on what to order because the menu is limited and there was nothing enticing to me. Reluctantly, I got the jerk chicken plantain sandwich which came with a side salad. I ordered the Passion Fruit lemonade for my beverage. The jerk chicken did not taste like much of anything. It looked undercooked and there was too much red cabbage. I couldn't and didn't finish it. I probably would have enjoyed the griot sandwich more. The Passion Fruit lemonade was decent. Overall, I don't recommend coming here. Instead go to the nearby vendor who sells coconut shrimp sliders or a shrimp salad.

This is hands down one of my favorite spots to eat. The Bunnan sandwiches are packed with flavor and they offer a great variety of options. I love that the menu goes beyond the usual, where else can you find plantain pizza. The plantain pizza especially is so unique and delicious. If you're looking to experience authentic Haitian flavors, this is definitely the place to go. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better.

BUNNANBK! The BK is for Brooklyn... when I say I've seen this on TikTok and specifically came to NY to try this I'm not kidding. Nothing is better than sweet plantain with juicy/tender meat. I had to give the sandwiches and the sampler a go. I tried one sandwich with the goat tassot, the jerk chicken and for the sampler one mushroom, one red snapper and two goats. Highly highly recommend the goat, it was extremely flavorful, juicy and tender. Hands down the best out of the others. Paired with the sandwiches was the passion fruit lemonade, absolutely refreshing. This quick service is located in a small town hall with a ton of different shops, food places and vendors. You can shop around for other island favorites whether it's food or merchandise while you wait on your food to be completed.

This was located inside a food hall. The location had plenty of potential, but when I was there, there were only 2 food stalls operating. Bunnan specializes in these plantain sandwiches. You have 5 options to pick from (pork, goat, jerk chicken, red snappers and mushroom). During the weekend they have special items like plantain lasagna. If you like trying different things or are indecisive, they have the sampler box option for $26. You can pick 4 sandwiches of any flavor except the goat one. The sample box is a smaller sized plantain sandwich than if you ordered individually. We ended up getting all four different option. You can pick between green plantain or sweet plantain for the sandwich shells. Here is my ranking of the four: 1. Mushroom - this is surprising my favorite! This is the least salty one and the mushroom texture is so meaty. 2. Pork - taste like bbq pulled pork 3. Red snapper - savory, texture reminds me of dried canned tuna 4. Jerk chicken - overly salty in my opinion; I also haven't really had jerk chicken but was a bit taken by the taste & texture I also highly recommend getting the sweet plantain shells. It's softer and the contrast of the sweet with the savory proteins really brings out the flavor! You get your food pretty quickly. It took about 7-10 minutes for my order and there were no orders in front of mine.

The Flatbush Caribbean Market held so much promise, but in reality it hasn't lived up to what I imagined for the place. It feels like the vendors are selling the remains of someone's garage sale, if I'm being honest. The food hall that was promised is sparsely occupied, but Bunnan is the one stand that keeps me from writing off this place entirely. Bunnan's whole deal is that they take jerked meats and serve them between two grilled pieces of plantain. I tried the jerk chicken one and the flavors were on point. The sandwich is not exactly large though for $15. But you're paying for the privilege of something that came out of my fever dream, and it totally works. Whenever I'm at the market, I skip the vendor stalls and make a beeling for Bunnan's stand. You'll have to wade through a sea of CDs and tshirts, but for this plantain paradise it's worth it.

Overall it was a great dining experience. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The space is nicely designed without being over the top. Our waiter (Race) was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The griot was very tender and crispy at the same time, just like I love it. The Djondjon rice was also delicious (the real deal, not imitation djondjon!). Loved all the plantain options we had. The bread pudding with crémas liquor on top was amazing. Greatly recommend BunNan. I definitely plan on going back.

Bunnan is one of my neighborhood go-to's, the type of place I can order from and know whatever I'm getting is good. Today I was finally home on a weekend, and decided to try the Plantain Pizza I've been seeing them advertise on their socials. *I want to offer to the team that the order method is a little confusing (pic below)-- I chose the Plantain Pizza Griot option (love their pork), and when it came up, it asked me to pick an option for a Taco. Knowing from socials that the Pizza was a personal pan size that, I figured it must just come with a size because this special is on the pricier side of their items ($26). So I chose mushrooms for the taco to go with my Griot pizza, but when my roommate came back with the pizza, and it was only/all mushrooms. Honestly, if this was anywhere but Bunnan I'd have been unhappy about it, but literally everything was so good I can't even complain. The Mushroom pizza is absolutely delicious Only mentioning it in case anyone else on Toast runs into that confusion, but trust me, eating here you'll be happy with whatever you'll get. 10's, as usual!

Bunnan is located at the back of Flatbush central market which makes it a laid back atmosphere where you can eat on the tables nearby. To make their sandwiches, they smash the plantains and each sandwich has caramelized onions, red cabbage slaw, pikliz and sauce. I absolutely loved the sweet plantain and the tenderness and flavors from the goat. what we ordered: sweet yellow plantain with pork $15 green plantain with tassot goat $23 passionfruit lemonade $6 I love the sweet yellow plantain! The sweetness from the plantain contrasts well with the pork. Sweet and savory. Savory green plantain with goat was tender and well seasoned. the green plantain is a crispy texture whereas the sweet plantain has a softer bite. Slaw in the sandwich adds a lot more dimension to the sandwich and the salad balances the savory flavors well! Passionfruit Lemonade was refreshing but on the sweeter side. Overall I have to come back on the weekend to try their plantain waffles and pizza!! The cashier was helpful in explaining the menu options.

Ayisyen Approved I didn't go to their brick and mortar location but I would assume the quality is the same. On a warm Sunday, I finally had the chance to get the Griot and Plantain sandwich from the "BunNan" stand at Smorgasbord. It took less than 5 minutes, the staff was so friendly and after weeks of eyeing their stand, I am so happy I tried their food. They give you an option of sweet or green-plantain and I chose green. The griot was flavorful, and not too salty. I asked for extra pikliz (spicy, vinegar, and onion/carrot relish) and thanks to my mother, I am used to spicier. The sandwich was large and filling. I will definitely try it again and I rarely repeat meals at Smorgasbord. I recommend they have spicier pikliz for customers who want something more intense

My friend was in town and we were looking for a new place to try. I was slightly craving plantains. I searched and found this location. It happens to be 5 minutes from where we were, the menu looked good so we decided to go. This is located in a Caribbean food hall. The stand inside looked non descrpit but we gave it a chance. Paris the host was so kind and happy to help us choose what to eat. She was pleasant and patient with us while we decided. We ordered and waited. When we got our order the presentation was everything. Even the boxes our food can't in were labeled to perfection! I got the sampler of two goat sliders and two pork sliders. My sister and friend got the snapper sandwiches. We all chose green plantains. The sandwiches and sliders were TO DIE!! They were sooo delicious. The portions were large and they were bursting with flavor. Ed went yesterday and I'm already planning my trip back. Fantastic!!! 5 stars for service, presentation and quality and quantity. read more

Visited BunNan today with my husband who loves anything Plantain. This restaurant is located in Flatbush Central where the decor is so warm, bright, authentic to caribbean culture. We ordered plantain fries, griot nachos and passionfruit lemonade. The service was great , food prepared to order. It was fresh, plantain nachos crispy, flavors are spice all married together well. I ventured out this way for the first time as this spot came highly recommended and boy when I tell you, the party started in the car! I couldn't wait to try it. I come to this restaurant all the time. I get the same thing everytime i come. X I get oxtail rice and beans cabbage and a spoonful of Mac and cheese and a stew chicken rice and beans with cabbage. This usually cost approximately 31 dollars. Yesterday I only got one plate the one with Mac and cheese with a half piece of salmon the woman at the counter said 42 dollars I'm like wtf she said the half piece of salmon Is 14 dollars o said take that mf off the plate. Now I'm paying 31 for on plate of food so I'm done with them. read more

Such a waste of money! I ordered ahead and still had to wait an extra half an hour for food that was revolting. On top of the food being completely horrible, dry and not well seasoned the customer service is also very lacking. The place wasn't busy at all on a Saturday, it was just me and one other person there and it took almost 10 minutes for me to get someone's attention.The plantain was dry and tasted like it was old and fried several times. Long story short save your money, the food looks nothing like it does on instagram and it's a complete waste of your time and calories. read more

The idea of creating a menu with everything containing plantains is genius! I thought the pictures and videos on Instagram looked delicious, but actually enjoying the food way outweighed the pictures. I ordered the plantain sandwich with pork (griot). Seen a Tik Tok video that tempted my friend and I to try their food. I am so impressed on how amazing the food is , I purchased the food at 2pm and it's now 2am and I woke up with the griot bunnan sandwich on my mind. The sandwich taste so good. I am slowly becoming a lover of Haitian cuisine. I stopped by this place on the recommendation of a friend and had to try their amazing sandwiches made of green plantain. The explosion of flavors is amazing. I deconstructed my sandwich before I took that first bite. The griot is well seasoned, cooked just right and great texture. The sweetness of caramelized onions with a touch of heat from the pikliz along with purple cabbage makes this sandwich a delectable combination and a good meal. I also had the mushroom and for the vegan it is delicious. This place takes Jerk chicken to another level, if you have a spicy mouth or just love jerk you will love the flavor and the heat. I am too full to make room for the snapper. Yes they have a sample box of four flavors. My favorite is their Griot. Stop by and say hello to Nadege the owner while there. What a yummy treat. This is a small food stand in a food court in a slightly strange Caribbean mall. The whole place seemed a bit antiseptic and empty but the lunch I had was really excellent. It's basically a sandwich on a plantain instead of bread. My lunch sandwich came with a side salad and wonderful cabbage and onions on top of the chicken. Was spicy in a good way. Recommend the lemonade to wash it down. Not cheap but definitely unusual. Worth a visit. read more

The Griot sandwich ($15) wasn't hittin. A lot of the griot was dry or crunchy, and the white sauce tasted like a ranch or halal guys kinda sauce, which overpowered any flavor in the meat or sandwich. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place! I had the sandwich with griot (fried pork) and it did not disappoint. All the flavors worked so well together. It's a big sandwich and it's very filling. My cousin had the nachos and he loved it. I literally left not one crumb behind. Can't recommend enough. I'm looking forward to trying the sweet plantain boats next. Located in the Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace on Flatbush Ave. Service was up to par, food was freshly made and portions were large. I went with a girlfriend of mine and she had the red snapper sweet bunnan boat and I had the red snapper green bunnan sandwich, both options were delicious. Food was seasoned well and I truly felt it in my Haitian tastebuds. Everyone should give it a try! read more

It was my first time trying Haitian food and I was surprised at how similar it was to Spanish food. Every plate we ordered was very flavorful and unique in taste. The sauces that came with our dishes were spicy (just how I like it) but so unique in spice too. I could have drank the sauces. There was nothing that we didn't like! The drinks were also simple, very light and yummy - not too sweet. The vibes of the restaurant were also very cute and dimly lit (but not too dim). They gave us the best seat in the house too - the corner window booth with views of the entire floor. It was a perfect date night! I can't put my finger on it but it didn't have a flavor of ANY blend of natural cheeses. I'd know, I'm a cheese connoisseur! Perhaps they use imitation cheese. Simply put, their macaroni au gratin is inauthentic as in no veggies (onions, bell peppers) nor ham or ground beef used either. At least the Diri Djon Djon and Lalo was decent. I've had better Salad Russe. It was either missing onions or salt. The condiment cup of Pikliz is shorter and smaller than the usual 1.5 oz. Most restaurants provide sizes 2 oz and larger and that's how I was able to tell the difference. I never even knew those solo dipping cups came any smaller! Probably so you can ask for more so they can charge extra. Not only do they make sure to cut corners on the Pikliz. Which wasn't even enough to mask their thick, brown, over-fried, DRY and STALE bannann peze that has been sitting out. After they cut the plantains they don't soak in salted water. Bannann peze SHOULD NOT be so thick, should be made-to-order and served hot, fresh, golden and crispy. Just look at their photos and see for yourselves compared to other bannann peze / tostones you've eaten / seen. Then to ask if I need utensils for a to-go order? No ma'am, I'll be using my fingers and eating out of my hands today, thanks for asking. Don't ask, just automatically include utensils in the bag for the astronomic amount you charge for your food. Chain restaurants or even mom & pops all simply include utensils and napkins when preparing to-go orders. Only time to get away with that is when delivering. At which most times customer may decline since they're home / work and may already have those items. Price point - garbage for side of macaroni au gratin I'll let you all be surprised for yourselves on the rest on menu. * If anyone gave this restaurant 5 stars... they're obviously not Haitian and/or their tastebuds are shot.

Not unbearable but a bit uncomfortable, so just keep that in mind if that's the case when you show up. What I will say when it comes to the experience and food is that it doesn't get more authentic than this. I asked for a recommendation and was told to order the griot, which was well seasoned and quite large portion size wise. The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20. I ordered to go because I had an event to go to, but can attest that they do a great job of plating their dishes when you dine in. If I'm ever in NYC again I wouldn't mind returning, dining in and hopefully trying something different like their Kalalou or legume which looks incredible.

The griot was delicious. Just crunchy enough on the outside and tender on the inside. The black rice was a little disappointing, but nothing major. I love black rice, but it lacked flavor. Luckily they give you a side of gravy, which was tasty. I should've taken the girl at the counter up on her offer to get an extra side of gravy. I still devoured everything though. It also came with fried plantain. I'm not a huge fan of unsweet plantain, but it was good when I added the picklez to it. Picklez is spicy, so tread lightly if you don't like heat. 5 stars for Anmwey. I will certainly return.

I understand that businesses have policies regarding outside food, and I respect the need to enforce them. However, I believe this situation could have been handled with greater compassion and understanding, given that the group consisted of individuals with disabilities who rely on packed lunches due to financial limitations. As someone who has consistently supported your establishment, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility and empathy shown. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will no longer be bringing my business or the individuals I support to your establishment.
