Malasada's and Kolaches. Two inventive takes on Buns with things in them. A traditional Hawaiian staple and a Texas right of passage all in the same food cart. These aren't your local Texas donut shop Kolaches though. We got some good buns here. It's refreshing to be able to find these things in Portland. And they do them well. Thanks guys! (4.6 Stars)

Coffee and bun.

Amazing coffee, and the buns were spectacular. I was just passing through and the lady working there was extremely nice, great energy!

Blown away by their buns! So soft, fluffy, and ripe. Normally you just want to get to the fillings but with these the dough is definitely the star. Don't get me wrong, the fillings were amazing as well - both sweet and savory. I particularly like the Rex's Cut and the Huapia Hustler but honestly you can't go wrong. Super fresh and great size. Will definitely be back. They do sell out fast so go early.

Our daughter -in-law picked some up for breakfast. They were amazing . She brought all the flavors of malasadas: chocolate, vanilla bean, coconut, passion fruit, guava, plain sugar - all so good! She also brought three flavors of kolaches, also very yummy. The six of us shared them, cutting them so we couldtaste all the flavors.

This is seriously a 10/10! Wowza! I got a haupia malasada and sausage & gravy kolache. Like eating flavorful pillows of deliciousness. I highly recommend. Oh, and folks working there are fabulously nice!

YUM. Finally made it over here to try this new food cart in the neighborhood. I've had malasadas at Leonard's in Hawaii before, so I wanted to see how these compared. I thought Bun Bandits are better! I got the vanilla and the coconut, both of which were delicious (especially the coconut). I'll definitely be back for those. I also got an assortment of kolaches. I liked the spice of the jalapeno cheddar, but I wish it had ground sausage instead of a link sausage. I also got the (ground) sausage, egg and cheese which was great. Loved the breading of the kolache. Staff were super friendly. My only bit of feedback is they should have a sign next to the order window so it's easier to read while ordering.

I was so excited to see Bun Bandits in my neighborhood! This place exceeded expectations that were already pretty high! The Malasadas were so amazing and the fillings were spectacular. The Boss Man is the perfect plain. The Kolache I had was sooooooo good. The gal who took our order was super helpful and nice and patient with us. They have two tables outside the truck and lots of parking! I'm already excited to come back and have some more.

Lots of people really in the morning

Had to come since I saw the post on IG that the malasadas is like Leonard's bakery malasadas. The service was very quick, we didn't have to wait too long. I got the Lilikoi and Koko flavors. The outside was nicely cooked making the malasadas crispy. The malasadas wasn't as fluffy and inside one malasada it didn't seem like it was cooked long enough. As a whole, not bad.

I've been dying for hot, gooey, and sugary malasadas in Portland and Bun Bandits fills that void. I got a regular not filled, and a vanilla malasada and they were delicioussss. Warm and chewy, like the best donut you've ever had. I need to come back for the kolaches and more malasada flavors!

Gotta have these buns! Came here on a Saturday morning around 9am. Waited less than 5 min in line and maybe another 5 min for the buns. The kolaches were a really good size and had a decent amount of filling. The Malasadas were slightly smaller (like donut size) but just as good. I ordered the jalapeño/cheese/sausage kolache and it had great flavor, the sausages were very good and overall it wasn't very spicy. Also ordered the bacon/egg/cheese kolache and it didn't disappoint. The stars of the show were the vanilla bean custard and the Nutella filled malasadas, they were so fresh! The staff was very friendly and you could tell they were having fun in the truck singing along to the music. Would definitely go back!

While you should expect to wait for your order, like most food carts, food is made as you order it. We were second in line and our order took about 15 minutes. These two ladies, with Hawaii ties, aimed to serve kolaches and "Leonard's" Malasadas to Oregon! They are doing a fantastic job and so far, sell out everyday! Everything was delicious and well worth the wait! Go early and expect to wait. They will sell out! Everyone who was in line this morning placed sizable orders because everything on the board looks (and was) delicious!

The classic, the Kolohe, the Haole, and the Lilikoi

Absolutely outstanding pastries, I've never had something like it but I can tell that it's comparable to the Hawaii originals! Get there earlier, as they can sell out fast on the weekends. Will definitely be coming back!!

Barely any filling

I know I've written a review for this place. This was supposed to be an update…read more We experience all emotions on our last visit, and I wanted to share so others can experience this. They have great scones. This is always what we order here. They have cranberry, buckwheat and a special blueberry cream version. We stopped by after eating at GIGI's, to get a scone. There were only buckwheat, that's not our fav. We were hear for cranberry. It's the best. We were about to leave, with sad looks on our face. I figured I'd just ask... you never know. The person behind the counter said they would check, it might be a long time if they are baking. Fingers crossed! We had some hope... but really I didn't think they had any. The person came back and said, YES we have them. They are fresh out of the oven!!! OMG From sadness, to hope, to surprise happiness. But then we tasted one in the car. I don't think I can go back to just buying room temp scones anymore. I'd really like to sign up for the hot scone club. Any scone fans out there need to try this. It was so delicious!

The dough was light, crisp, and perfectly delicate, and the rhubarb was the true star--tart but beautifully balanced, not overwhelming at all. I went mid-morning, and it was fresh, not sitting around, which made a big difference. I honestly wish I had grabbed a second one, but my waistline politely voted no.

The suburbs are a rough, unforgiving landscape for coffee shops…read more At best, you'll have strip-mall stands, parking-lot carts or mini chains that pour a serviceable menu of second-wave offerings and, if you're lucky, won't try to rope you into Sunday services at the church they're fronting for. At worst, you have places dispensing sugar-laden trucker fuel to customers as quickly as possible and doing as little as they can to keep people hanging around or foster community. To look at The Coffee Shop from the spaghetti bowl of streets surrounding it in Raleigh Hills, you'd get the sense that it could be either of the above. It's at the end of a strip mall, it's along busy roads, and it's put enough thought into the branding that something has to be up, right? As it turns out, no. The Coffee Shop may be clinging to the westernmost point of Portland and may serve as its gateway to the suburbs, but understands its role within its community as well as shops in the denser neighborhoods over the bridges and beyond the tunnels. I only started going here roughly two years ago, but it's become a staple for meeting people in the neighborhood and conducting lengthier conversations. The Coffee Shop is an expansive space that has a modest dining area near its front counter, but effectively a community living room in the back and a sidewalk terrace out front that's workable for about four months out of the year. Each time I've walked in, the tables are consistently buzzing with people swapping ideas, exchanging stories, and occasionally getting some work done. As with the better shops in town, The Coffee Shop relies on counter service and asks you to order and pick up as needed. There are no wait staff checking in, no bussers clearing tables, and no interruptions to the rhythm of your day. It's a functional third space that just happens to have breakfast items (which I haven't tried yet), an array of baked goods (I never pass up an oatmeal cookie) and a full menu of casual espresso drinks (not great for pourovers or sampling a variety of sourced roasts, but an easy cortado, Americano, Red Eye or latte. And when coffee is the secondary item and you're hitting the first 60-degree days on the calendar, a cardamom-and-honey Cardi B or chocolate-and-cinnamon Mr. Olingo serves as a welcome treat. The Coffee Shop is on Portland's car-driven outskirts, but is in one of the last segments in which people are encouraged to stay a while. It's flanked by Jan's Bookstore, spas, nail salons, yoga studios, Sesame Donuts, and the area's one true diner. It occupies a much-needed space within its far corner of Portland and displays remarkable urban sensibility in an area where it could've simply gone with the flow of suburban traffic. The Coffee Shop isn't your last hope for a cup of coffee before reaching the 'burbs, but it's one of the few true coffee shops this far beyond the tunnels.

A very kind security guard opened the front door for us and greeted us with a very big smile. Inside, the cafe is HUGE! it stretches out towards the back and has fun flyers and posters. Very clean and smells like coffee beans! I tried their rose gold latte and my fiancé asked for their cherry vanilla latte, both seasonal items. It was strong and tasted exactly as described. The line was long but we got in the coffee shop right away and maybe waited for our drinks around 15 minute after ordering. They were sold out of the wildwood mugs and it looked like they had one last bag of coffee beans for the wildwood collection. Stumptown is a bit bitter for me usually but this drink was good. It did end up being pretty sweet but since Stumptown coffee is bitter (for me), I figured it was the only way to mask the bitterness. My partner got the hot version with regular milk (both $8.25) and he had less coffee and more of the whipped topping. His cup was 75% coffee. Now let's talk, the artwork. The cinematography on the walls were great - such a great teaser to the movie and ode to Portland. I would not have came down to SW 3rd for Stumptown otherwise but happy we did.
